Jason Keys takes your money and then abandons the job. He doesn't pay his suppliers and leaves you with leins. Avoid at all cost. His employees are now going out on their own. Avoid them too. They were complicit in his fraud. read more

As a new member of this community, I want to warn others about my negative experience with Keys Construction and Remodeling in Petoskey. My wife and I purchased a summer home in July 2024 and hired the contractor, John Jenks, in October 2024. Unfortunately, he failed to meet deadlines, compromised the integrity of our hardwood floors, and only partially completed one of the three rooms. I recommend exploring alternative remodeling options. Also we paid him $53k to date and asked for $20k back in which he replied he didn't have any money left! He Spent $53k of our money in 8 mos and completed nothing. Home owners beware do not contract with this company! read more

The Keys Construction crew do excellent quality work. However, Jason Keys, the president of Keys Construction is a crook. He takes your money and then does not pay the suppliers and you end up with liens against your property. I ended up paying off my liens and Jason now owes me $20,000 But ignores my texts and phone calls. Don't go with Keys Construction! read more

Hired him to paint my home, etc.-said he wanted to take care of everything for me so I don't get ripped off - he diluted the paint, lied and bullsh... his way on everything. His workers told me what his scam was because they thought I was a nice person and Constantly asked for more money upfront to pay his own home bills and shutoff notices - had his two kids work for him and then told me it's was their first time doing any of it. Paid him in full because he again begged that he needed it to pay for his van repairs, his electric bills, etc. and then laughed about filling the sealer bucket with 1/2 water - because I would never know the difference on sealing the rock walls of my home. Told him that my cameras showed that he only put one coat on an exterior walls, told me two times that he put 4 coats on - sprayed all over my windows and screens, dripped paint down into my trim, ruined landscaping, etc. - and then as soon as he was paid in full - had his guys come to my house and pick up all of their equipment without the job completed rectified. Homeowners with big hearts beware! Run, he's a con man. That's the last time I'll ever let someone come in without ANY references! My fault.

After a few years the quality and craftsmanship fell apart, and we started to get water damage. Tim came in assessed the situation, and was able to provide us with a great price, and by far the best workmanship we have seen. Not only did they go out of their way to fit us in, (since this was the only bathroom with a shower or tub). The work ethic demonstrated by Tim and his employees was second to none. You see show's on TV where you think, "Wow, I wish I could get that kind of quality, and treatment in a remodel" ... Well, we found it with July's. We could not be any happier with the final product. We will definitely be having them back to help us through a kitchen remodel, and who knows, maybe even an addition.

The project manager was a guy I went to school with so I trusted his judgement as I don't know anything about roofs or the construction of. Paid $10,000, and 6 days later, the first rain fall after, the leak was still in the same spot. They tried saying it was this, that and they did come out and try to fix it. The last thing I heard in January was that they were going to do a water test (HMM WHY DIDNT YOU DO THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?) when the weather warmed up. I called beginning of March, and the project manager that had originally helped me out said he didn't work there anymore and to contact Harold and Shelby. I called, left several messages, resorted to looking them up on Facebook where I was blocked. Once I was blocked, I told them from my husbands account that they could plan on seeing us in court. He (Harold) says "it's your chimney been telling you all along. See you in court". I've never spoken to Harold and I have in writing that they would take care of the leak no matter what and would be back to fix it. These people are cowards and don't stand behind their work. I will be taking him to court and going to the state to report. DO NOT USE HAROLD DEO OR SHELBY MORLEY FOR ANY BUSINESS AFFAIRS.
