We did a great mountain bike tour on October 4th that was an absolute blast! The bikes and equipment was all ready to go, fitted perfectly for each of us (all a wide range of heights and weights). Fisher was our tour guide and boy did he deliver! Based off of conversations he picked the perfect route for us right at our skill level. He checked in with us frequently enough to make sure we were having a good time, and gave us options along the way. Good job Fisher! Great guide. The trails were well maintained and easy to distinguish, definitely some super challenging sections, but hey thats why we were there! Beautiful views, super fun experience! An absolute blast! Jake was an awesome kayaking guide. We went on a day where the winds were gusting way over the limit - Keweenaw had to cancel the afternoon kayak tours but kept an eye out for our sunset one and ended up making the right call (waters were super smooth when we went, and because everyone else cancelled early, the tour was just for 4 people!!) They even ran down to our restaurant to let us know while we were eating what their decision was so we didn't have to keep driving back and checking in on them. I've never kayaked before but it was well explained and demonstrated. Kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and wetsuits are in good condition. Would recommend! read more

My husband and I rented a tandem sea kayak from Keweenaw Adventure for our 6-day paddle around the eastern part of Isle Royale and through the inland lakes. Keweenaw struck us as being a responsible, high-quality outfitter that I would recommend to anyone who needs a watercraft to use in the harbor or on Isle Royale. We took the mandatory water safety course before leaving for our adventure, using the kayak we would later be renting. Chris, our instructor, was a seasoned paddler who was also clearly a teacher (turns out he teaches at Michigan Tech). Although Chris made it clear that there was plenty more to learn, we felt much better prepared to paddle on fickle Lake Superior. The shop staff also made sure we went with a weather radio. The radio was, as advertised, a key piece of equipment throughout our trip. The kayak was in excellent shape and possibly brand-new. The PFDs and skirts were comfortable, and the latter did their job on the day we paddled into 3-4 foot waves. As rock climbers we see poor habits being developed in climbing gyms, contributing to increased risk of tragedies outdoors. As such, we especially appreciated the mandatory water safety course at Keweenaw. Although some might see this requirement as a money-making scheme, we viewed it as a way for the staff to know that every person they send out with a kayak has basic paddling knowledge and practical experience with emergency skills. There was a more experienced kayaker in our class and our instructor went into more advanced techniques with this student, who later expressed that it was a worthwhile use of time and money. The employees at Keweenaw Adventure are the absolute best. They have no problem dropping what they're doing to tell you all about the trails in the area and what their favorite rides are. They'll even give you some excellent dining suggestions in Copper Harbor and nearby Eagle Harbor. The shop contains all the essentials to keep you ride running, plus more. The shuttle to the top of the trails is very cheap and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for a shuttle to leave from the shop. They're experts and won't steer you wrong! read more

Rented 2 bikes for a couple hours of riding with the shuttle. What a great experience! All the employees treated you friendly and there was no "exclusive biker" attitude. The shuttle was full of cool people (appeared to be some locals that gave out great advice in a non judgemental way) and the riding was great. We stopped by on Monday to inquire about the trails in the area, and the staff was extremely friendly and explained many of the potential routes. We made our reservation for the next day. Since we did not bring our own, we rented two mountain bikes for two hours and purchased the pass for the shuttle on a Tuesday evening (the only mid-week day of shuttle at the time of this review). I do not mountain bike much, and have never done downhills. If I couldn't ride a point, I certainly could walk. But I was still nervous. It was amazing!!! I had time for two shuttles to the top in my two hour rental. Faster/more experienced riders could definitely fit in more. Once on the shuttle, the first person to suggest a stop (Brockway Mountain or Keweenaw Mountain Lodge) was the direction the driver went. We did Brockway on both. The staff noted that Tuesdays were typically locals riding the shuttle. All of the others on the shuttle were very knowledgable of the runs, and gave great tips and recommendations. No one was cocky, or unwelcoming to tourists. If you are in the area, do not miss this world-renowned activity; Keweenaw Adventure can get you geared up!!! read more

I've rented mtn bikes here 2 different times. They gave me nice bikes, good advice, and a reasonable price. The trailhead is conveniently right across the street. Everyone there was laid-back and friendly. They are involved with the non-profit group that maintains the trails. Not a lot of beginner terrain, but lots of really great intermediate and advanced trails to cruise. I rode for 2.5 hours straight and didn't cover half of it. read more

The day we went (July 12, 2016), it was a gorgeous day and the KAC was packed with people waiting to rent their equipment. We were attended to within minutes (we rented two paddle-boards and two sit on top kayaks) and the transaction was easy, staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The equipment was in perfect condition (I was told they buy new equipment each year). I do have to add that this is one of the cleanest and cutest equipment rental businesses I've seen (we are from southern California). A lot of thought has been put into the beautification of the buildings and how easy the layout flows. Our service guy happily jumped into his vehicle with our rentals and towed them to Lake Manganese. At first, we were having a total blast, but sadly those biting flies drove us back to our car after enduring two hours of painful biting. The KAC has no control over the flies, but it may be worth a call ahead of time to find out the weather and insect status. It was an adventure we will never ever forget!! read more

We stayed in Copper Harbor July 22-24th this year. We did the sunset Kayak tour on our second night and first and foremost, the views were stunning. We had 3 tour guides because our group was so large (about 15 of us) and each of them made sure they kept an eye on everyone and were quick to assist anyone that needed any assistance. Before heading out, they give you all the equipment and gear you need, give you a tutorial in how to do the correct strokes and then help everyone get into their respective kayaks. JJ, Connor, and Ryan also were able to take us on a slightly extended tour because the weather was agreeable. Needless to say, it was the highlight of our trip. If you're on the fence about trying it, do it. It's very worth the time, energy, and money needed for this adventure. read more
