It was also a town that was used to film the backdrops for a movie called Snow Falling on Cedars http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120834/ . My parents and many relatives had to relocate there during WW2 and it was there that my mother after many years had found new love in an old friend, my step father. To this day, they have lived there for over 30 years and pretty much all of my stepfathers life. It is a small town with a big heart. Quiet, picturesque, nestled in a valley and an inbetweener from Osoyoos to Grandforks. During the summer it is a destination for recreational motorcyclists to drop in on their way up the province. If you happen to drive through, drop on in for a coffee and a walk through the town and experience an old mining towns charm! It's a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. This being the smallest city in Canada.

When I…read moreinitially contacted Katrine, she gave me a story that she cared about the elderly, but there was nothing she could do while the NDP were the official opposition. Katrine would not even go to visit my parents in the "Rest Haven Lodge" in Sydney, even though she was in Victoria at the time. Does that sound like someone who cares for the well being of the elderly? It is just the opposite! Last month, I contacted Katrine by email stating the urgency that my mum had died in "The Lodge at Broadmead" only 3 months after being transferred from the Rest Haven. I added that I was skeptical about her sincerity about the elderly as she would not visit with my parents in their time of need. I added that I would place her on the internet if I did not get any action this time. Well, my dad starved to death in The Lodge at Broadmead on August 30, 2012 and I never received a response! All I can say is that Katrine Conroy is a "Con" and a poor excuse for the unemployed to have a job! Anyone with elderly parents beware of this NDP ploy to get elected. It is only a ploy!!!!

It's great for those travelling and requiring/seeking some information assistance re: E. C. Manning Provincial Park. And at the same time, provides a handy 'pitstop' for washrooms, sani station for vehicles, small picnic table area (for a breakfast or lunch break), or just a nice place and lovely setting to get out of one's vehicle and stretch the legs a little. The outside foyer of the building features several framed, wall displays (w/history, Park map, some of the flora & fauna, and such), plus, a bulletin board of current & upcoming events and such in the Park. The service counter inside the building is attended by a staff person, who can supplement the written information that's available, and help answer those questions one may have re: some specifics of the 'what, where, and when', and the like. There are several rather nicely setup, informative museum-like displays -- featuring Park history, some of the natural and physical sights to be seen within the Park, an interactive, under-glass display of the various mountains in the Park, indicating riding and other trails, flora & fauna displays, and more -- plus, a retail space, offering a selection of books, postcards, clothing, and such. The Visitor Centre is a must-stop of ours each time we are in Manning Park. This year, the weather, setting, and offerings at the Centre (attractive, informative displays), just really seemed to click, and the visit was especially enjoyed.
