I actually had the great displeasure of working at this station earlier this year. Perhaps the worst group of people I have ever worked with in my entire life. Mean, nasty and arrogant people who think they are giants in the media world. I don't think they understand they aren't so great and the station doesn't have a big audience at all. The pay is so low they can't keep good people. About 80% of the newsroom barely looked like they had passed puberty. And yes, a lot of bias in news stories. Mesmerizing the actual population or public who are short lived. Just too many commercials and self promos. To make matters worse, the commercials are repetitive. I know production costs are high, so have fewer commercials and charge more for those you do have. News is just fair to poor. Little or no follow up on news stories. Little "in depth" reporting. The combination of too many commercials and self promos caused me to look elsewhere for television viewing. Weather, weather, weather. For a place that has very little weather variation, you sure do a lot of weather broadcasts. Too many, in my opinion, and many are obviously pre-recorded. How about weather forecasting for the valley, where most of us live, instead of the other side of the mountain, or on top of it? Want to guarantee fewer viewers? Keep up the frequency of technical glitches. Do you have an engineer or technicians on staff? Seems not. read more

It's so sad that we cannot get at least 1 TV station from Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley. KESQ news is so bad it's almost funny. The stations relationship to the Firebirds again is so over the top and obvious we no longer will watch the station. The app is terrible! The livestream rarely works and it cuts off on the few occasions it does work. The 4 and 6:30 newscasts are the only ones resembling professional reporting. The others are a joke. It's like watching a 7th. grade AV class doing school news. read more

This has to be one of the most amateur news channels in the country. Apart from a handful of more seasoned gems who do a consistently good job (Jake, Karen, John, Peter and Hayley) the majority of the other reporters wouldn't even make it in a high school production. The newer recruits don't seem to be able to master the auto cue, look like rabbits in the headlights, make constant mistakes and obviously have little understanding of what they are reporting. This coupled with regular technical issues, excruciating local commercials repeated over and over again makes this sometimes really hard to watch. read more

Time and time over several months the newly hired manager doesn't give a hoot to see if all captions on KESQ news are available or not to the Deaf Community of Coachella Valley. Maybe his management style is laissez faire. This style lets unprofessional staffs do what they are doing their jobs. Also, last week, there was no Good Morning American after the local broadcast at 7:00 A.M., they repeated the 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 A.M. local news AGAIN at 7:00. WTF! This morning, Sunday, there was no local news between 6/7, only an infomercial. Shameful! Horrible, Amateurish News Reporting. Morning news is live for the first 15 minutes then replays it over and over again. The weekend news only has a host and hits the play button for weather reporting, etc. I have seen high school students report better than the staff at KESQ. We watch kesq every morning its our routine, coffee and news Monday thru Friday always great, always informative..best station to watch before good morning America...but Saturday??!!!! Oh brother..Samantha Cortese..why do they allow her to do the whole newscast...we watch but only to count her mistakes..mouth full of marbles is an understatement...so many mis pronounced and mangled words..it's laughable. This morning found that ABC World News Now first half hour (only time I watch this station) has been replaced with Live with Kelly & Ryan which spilled over 7 minutes into WNN (can't even get timing correct). I would prefer to be informed of what is taking place in the world rather than watch a rerun of those two idiots. I also wonder who types the banners at the bottom of the screen. Aug 3 2020 Gov Newsom was giving a Covid briefing and the banner read and I quote "hospitalizations have went down by 10 percent over a 14 day period". Seriously, "have WENT down"? One more indication of their unprofessionalism. Have tried to comment on their website but can't find a way to email a comment. I'm sure no one from KESQ reads these comments and I'm sure they don't want to be contacted by the public. The management did not seem at all concerned when the details of Mike Daniels' glaring errors were brought to their attention. They constantly spell things incorrectly, misquote people, apply inaccurate titles and names to photos, and offer no true or accurate news. The new ad on KESQ must have been done by Ginger Jeffries' mother. I can't imagine ANYONE thinking Ginger Jeffries has a personality. She is so self absorbed, has such a nasal voice, is not nice to look at, and gives off that "I'm so much better than you" vibe. I love Jeff, Emily, John, Karen, Tamara, Ashley, and Jerry...but when Ginger appears, I turn to channel 2 and watch it. Gil Diaz is also not a favorite.
