I have never complained on a web site before and it is stressful. However it is more stressful to think that this company has provided questionable products and this is compounded by their offloading the issues unto everyone else.
The product is BC western cedar clapboard, for exterior house finish. Almost immediately after installation problems became evident; specifically virtually every knot was splitting and cracking in the boards. Meeting was held with Kent and wood distributor within 6 months; the result was nothing was going to be done as wood was wood and Kent was only the distributor. The product was painted inside on finished surfaces prior to installation , however the installer took the step, after Kent defaulted, to repaint the product with Bin paint product and filler on the knots. The problem of cracking and splitting re-emerged. So the product problem was brought to the district level at Kent. After a year , there has been no decision despite requests for info, viewing product and obtaining a sample over the interval.
So the conclusion that I have taken is that Kent takes advantage of its Atlantic Canada neighbours with poor quality products and no regard for customer satisfaction. The motto should be you bought it its your problem.
Since that initial response of Kent Building I have not purchased anything from Kent Building Supplies nor any known Irving enterprises as Kent is a division of J.D. Irving; specifically Irving gas, natural gas Big Stop, Cavenish Farm food products, Majesta and Royale paper products, Times and Transcript or other Irving provincial papers.
Further my goal of a wood clad exterior home with its increased value and decades of durability has been replaced by frustration and rapid deterioration of the siding. I do appreciate that wood has character however it is the extent of the knot and wood splitting. that is the issue. read more
