An amazing man that I had the pleasure of chatting with on a Monday afternoon in San Francisco.

I had Monday off and decided to walk around San Francisco. During my adventures, I saw this clown - Kenny the Clown - near Fisherman's Wharf. We talked for a long while about what it's like to be a clown and the struggles clowns face in a climate that does not always paint clowns in a favorable light. This guy seemed genuinely to care only about one thing: putting a smile on other peoples' faces. Kenny is an amazing person and he pours his heart and soul into his craft. I spent some time photographing his interactions and this was my favorite shot from the series.

No matter where I am going in town - the farmers' market by Webster Street, the Spring Festival on Park Street, the Park Street Art 'n Wine, the Antique Car Show, concerts at Crab Cove during the summer - Kenny the Clown is there and just about everywhere, entertaining the children and bringing smiles to people's faces. I have seen him on the bus, on the ferry boat, come out of a restaurant after a birthday party, and even with his dad sans clown costume. I have also seen him performing at Fisherman's Wharf in SF. BTW, I am not stalking Kenny the Clown. He lives on my end of town - the West End. This afternoon I had to buy a last minute Christmas gift for my sister-in-law from Macy's. Coming out of the Powell Street BART station and up the escalator to the Halladie Plaza, who do I see performing, besides a black gentleman tap dancing to MJackson's Billie Jean, none other than Kenny the Clown. Hey, the guy is great and a whole ton of fun. He's in town (Alameda) and he's out on the road (San Francisco) at the Powell Street turnaround (Cable Car stop) making flowers, animals, swords, headgear, etc., out of elongated balloons to the delight of children. He somewhat reminds me of what somebody once asked young John Lennon what he wanted to be when he got older. Lennon's response was "be happy". Then I also reflect on the song by Bobby McFerrin..."Don't worry; be happy". Everytime I see Kenny the Clown, he exudes so much happiness and laughter; and there is that saying, "laughter is the best medicine".

It was a very hot day, and all the kids were originally seated facing the sun, before starting his show, he had the parents turn the children around so they wouldn't be staring into the sunlight. That spoke volumes about his experience. Boswick had so many tricks up his sleeve and kept the kids engaged and laughing throughout. The birthday girl (as is perfectly appropriate for her age!) wandered off midway through, but the older kids were totally captivated the entire time. When the balloon-making began, she came right back, a perfect ending to the performance. Even the adults were entertained! Boswick effortlessly switches between engaging 3-year-olds, 7-year-olds, and adults alike with his humor and charm. As a teacher, I really appreciated his ability to manage a crowd and keep everyone entertained. Other nearby parties had a jump house and a traveling petting zoo with a runaway turtle, but Boswick was by far the highlight of the park. Overall, we were impressed. I would recommend Boswick for any kids' event.

I ever seen my 5 years old laugh so hard. To the point tears came out from her eyes. Since then I want to bring her to more shows , unfortunately it's any for public unless I hire someone privately, which I'm planning to do for my daughter upcoming birthday in July. Thanks for the awesome show last year!!

The party started a little later than normal, with friends rolling in, and Mr SHAP took everything in stride. I really appreciated that he read the room, took initiative, and still delivered exactly what we had agreed to. Friends came up to say how great he was! He also was incredibly efficient with setting up and breaking down, and everyone loved his energy and his magic!

He managed a large, energetic group of kindergarteners with ease, keeping everyone laughing, focused, and excited throughout the entire show. Several parents came up to us afterward to comment on how great he was, which says a lot. Mr. Shap is professional and clearly very experienced with young children. We couldn't have asked for a better entertainer and would enthusiastically recommend him to anyone planning a kids' party.
