Had both a vet appointment and boarded our dogs there…read more Let's just say this was the absolute worst experience I have had boarding my dogs. Vet appt was mediocre. Had to pay for 2 exam fees. Neither dog got an exam. They gave them there influenza shot and sent us on our way. Boarding... when we dropped off we had concerns. We asked to see the kennel where the dogs were kept and it wasn't very nice. There was active animal pee on the ground and extremely loud. None of the animals were settled. Whatsoever. The blankets they give dogs are paper thin. Thank goodness we brought our own. On the 3rd day of our dogs getting boarded we get a call that they have run out of food. How is that possible if I packed 12 bags for 5 days and they eat once a day. I packed for 1 extra day just in case. The workers never read the instructions and did whatever they wanted. They fed them twice a day and they weren't even eating. No call nothing. Until they ran out. They offered purina- which my dogs can not eat. They did go out and buy their dog food from tractor supply. But after such the manager acted as if I should be grateful for such a doing. The following morning I get another phone call. Miraculously one of my dogs has a cut under her eye and she needs emergency medical attention but no vets are in but I can pay for them to take her to an emergency vet. They tried to blame my other dog which is insulting enough. We cut our trip short and had a friend go get our dogs out of this place that day. Not only that. I drove my dogs 3 hours to the university (Virginia Tech) to have them evaluated and the one dog professional stitched up by the surgical team to also be told it was not from another dog. Do not board your dogs here.

With the right tenderness and attention to detail, any one can do a great job. Some can do a great job quickly without sacrificing quality. Ridge Dog Shop does all of dat. Without much effort. Both times I brought my dog there, I called last minute. Now, I have a pug, so he's more manageable but still. The only reason I am not a regular is because they are farther away from where I live. Yet, I'm certain I'll be back again. You should go too. Also, tell them Lil Wayne the Pug English sent you.

I took my dog Luke there last night, originally for his first checkup but turned into a sick visit. First off we were greeted the moment we walked thru the door. We were given our paper work and seen almost immediately after completing everything. I am mad I didn't get anyone's name because I was so overwhelmed with my puppies diagnosis but they should know who they are. The One thing I appreciated the most was they explained everything so I could understand, and their patience was great. It was a lot to comprehend and they gave me options to review. I was getting worried because it was the end of the day and I'm sure it was past their time to leave but they didn't rush or pressure me to make a decision quickly. They took great care of Luke and sent us home feeling hopeful. I also spoke to the staff this morning and they checked up on his condition, answered any more questions I had and reassured me things are going well and how they should. I am so glad I chose this vet to bring my baby.

By the end of the week they had him on a schedule, walking 3 times a week for a half hour, to train him to walk on a leash. Once he can do that (which may take a while, he's hard-headed :)) he is going to go on adventure walks with them, which are basically long hikes with 2-3 dogs at a time, that completely tire your pooch out. I have two walkers that work with my dog, and they are both awesome. They send me an email after every walk, with pictures of my dog and a progress report of how he's doing. They also are bonded and insured, and offer to keep keys to the house so they can come in while you are at work and exercise the pooch. And get this- it's $20 for the walk... and $5 for every extra 15 mins! And that is for one or two dogs... very reasonable. So much so that I can definitely afford the 3 days a week walking, and seeing my puppy so happy at the end of the day is worth it. Love these guys.

Unfortunately, my 3 boys (Ozzy, Tyler, and Bono) have since passed away, but my 2 new pups (Cannon and Hollywood) are still regular adventurers. They get to go hiking and swimming with Marti every couple of weeks - with Cannon generally finding some enormous stick or piece of trash to keep him entertained and Holly swimming laps in the river and playing chase with other dogs. They always come home happy and tired. There is a review posted from someone named "Matin" (which I assume is made up as it is a brand new account and contains false information) that says someone from Richmond Boxer Rescue steered him away from CA. I am the founder and president of RBR and a loyal client for almost 10 years now. Many of my fosters and volunteers use them and love them as well. NO ONE from my organization knows who this person is or said anything negative about CA, so that is a blatant lie. Review from 2010: I cannot say enough good things about Josh and Canine Adventure! Aside from actually being able to sometimes make my boxer, Ozzy, slightly tired (a nearly impossible feat), Josh was always reliable, responsible and ended up being a good friend! My own dogs (Ozzy, Tyler and Bono) were lucky to get Adventure Walks with him every week! The highlight of their week was seeing Josh pull up in front of the house! In addition to working with my own dogs, Josh graciously worked with my many fosters through Richmond Boxer Rescue. He donates his time to several other local rescue groups as well. The walks and training were an invaluable asset to the foster dogs as were the AMAZING photos he would take on the walks! We moved to the west coast but would still be loyal clients if we were in Richmond! I so wish there were a service like this available here!

I have never posted a negative review, but after our experience with Bark & Sparkle, I feel other…read morepet owners deserve to know what happened to our dog and how our concerns were handled. We have been customers of this groomer for 10 years. Our dogs were last groomed at the end of June 2026. The day after their grooming appointment, our 10 yr old dog began limping. We took him to an er vet & discovered his foot had been cut during grooming. The wound became infected, and his paw swelled twice its normal size. For the next three weeks, we had to make trips to the vet for wound cleaning & have it bandaged every 3-4 days. The vet prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds because of the infection and swelling. In total, we spent more than $500 in vet bills. We contacted Bark & Sparkle to let them know what had happened and simply asked that they please be more careful with our dogs. We were told that they would pay the vet bills and that what happened was a "fireable offense." We specifically Linda Tew, that we were not trying to get anyone fired and that we were not looking for money. We simply wanted them to be aware of what happened. Despite everything, we decided to give them another chance. Our appt was scheduled for today. For the entire time we have been customers, we have always dropped our dogs off at 8:30. This morning, at approximately 8:15, while we were already on our way, I received a call saying that our appointment was at 8:00 a.m. I explained that we were on our way for our usual 8:30 appointment and that we had never dropped our dogs off at 8:00. I was told they could not take our dogs because we were 30 minutes late. I explained that their posted business hours begin at 8:30 and that we have always brought our dogs in at 8:30. I apologized if there had been a scheduling misunderstanding, but asked why they could not accommodate us when we were only about 10 minutes away. I explained the situation to Linda Tew and again said that we had always brought our dogs in at 8:30. She told me they could not take the dogs and that we would have to reschedule. During the conversation, I was also told that they do not groom two large dogs at the same time and that their policy is to take dogs at 8:30 and 11:30 for the groomer. This was confusing to us because we have brought both of our dogs together for years and have always had an 8:30 appt. I acknowledged that we had missed a confirmation text and that was on us. However, I explained that we had never brought our dogs in at 8:00, that their posted hours begin at 8:30, and that we were confused. While I was trying to explain my concerns, Linda told me that I would not let her finish speaking. I told her that I felt the situation was unreasonable, and before I could finish explaining myself, she hung up. We called back, and Linda answered. I told her that I did not appreciate being hung up on and that, given what had happened with our dog during the previous grooming appointment, we were now going to take them up on their offer to cover the veterinary bills. Instead of resolving the situation, she again said that I was interrupting her and that the conversation was not going anywhere. She then hung up on me a second time.At this point, I am extremely disappointed. After nearly 10 years of being loyal customers, never having an issue with being late or missing any apps this is how our concerns were handled. Our dog was injured during a previous grooming appt, resulting in an infection, multiple vet visits, medication, three weeks of treatment, and more than $500 in vet expenses. We still gave the business another opportunity because of the many years we had been customers. Unfortunately, today's experience was the final straw for us. I am sharing this experience so other pet owners can make their own informed decision about where they take their dogs. I personally will never use this business again. Please be careful, ask questions, and make sure you are completely clear on your appointment time and the business's policies before leaving your pets in their care.
