It is a mini shop and can't offer the variety of the main store, but has enough onboard to keep things interesting. I was there this morning to pick up a light breakfast to consume at my Trenton office. Timing was perfect, as I walked in as the counter woman was carrying out a large open box of still warm rolls both sesame seeded and plain. Was a time I would devour these babies right out of the bag, because they were so perfectly textured and sour dough delicious. Recalling those grand old days, I ordered two seeded rolls with just a smear of cool butter, and a couple of brownies to share at work. Along with their better than decent Java, I contentedly bite into the first roll. The crisp shell gave way to the soft belly, with the butter adding a touch of flavor that mixed perfectly with the bread. An involuntary sigh escaped my lips. It was that eye-rollingly great. The brownie an hour later was dense with cake chocolate. Also, superb, and made my assistant very happy. This shop also makes sandwiches, but with a much shorter menu than Butler Street. If as good as the mothership, I am amazed that they haven't expanded to have room for the anticipated customer surge.

But, the highlight goes to their amazing rye bread loaves. I picked up a seeded rye today. It was thin sliced and very fresh. As soon as I got home I lightly toasted two and spread sweet butter over them. With hot coffee washdown, they were delicious; slightly sour, and crispy to the last bite. Reminded of childhood when my grandmother and I would walk up to Broadway and 173 St. in Manhattan for a shopping excursion and always visit the local bakery for supplies. There was always a slice of bread for me handed over by the baker/owner who took pity on my slight frame. I also picked up several kielbasa sticks and a few noshes (pazciks, apple and strawberry cheese danish) to see how good they were. Yup. They were uber sweet, but damn good - but kind of messy to handle. The smoked sausage were all tasty and "snapped" on biting. The Trenton neighborhood on upper Brunswick Avenue has a wealth of ethnic delights, and is well worth exploring when in the mood for something unique and delectable.

The front of the store also has a display case with pastries and cakes for sale. There are also a few aisles in the back of the shop that are well-stocked with imported European products, like egg noodles, spices, chocolates (including Kinder), and snacks. The minimum for card purchases is high at $25, so bringing cash is a must.

I saw a cake shaped like a sneaker! I'm not sure of the name of the kind lady behind the counter, but she is sweet and always up for a bit of conversation. You know the real kind of customer service you used to get? Well that is what she provides. The absolute number one reason to go here is their homemade, ready to whip up, pizza dough! It is so yummy and will "rise to the occasion" in your car before you get home to pop it in the oven. Franca bakery has made "pizza chef" one of the attributes, no doubt, that will be listed in my obituary one day.

While I hate to judge an establishment by its looks, this did not have much to offer. Old fixtures and display, no line, PLENTY of baked goods left... But I guess in this case it was right. They had plenty of cookies left, a few donuts, plenty of cupcakes and other goods which at the end of the day seemed odd. The service was ok, but not knowledgeable about their selection. How do you not know what kind of filling is in your donuts? I tried 2 donuts which ended up being dry, granular tasting, and left a waxy taste in your mouth. They had me questioning if they were actually old, and not today old but like made yesterday old. But hey, 2 donuts for $1.50? I guess that's not bad.

Franca Bakery - Cream filled? - not great. Dough was old tasting and not soft enough. Plus it was light on the filling.

I have visited this location twice now, the first time was late in the day with not many options. I picked a focaccia with basil and mozzarella and loved it. Although it looked much like others I've seen or had, the dough was amazing and a pleasure to eat. On my recent Saturday visit( which is the best day to visit this market) there were almost too many options. I went with a dessert I've had by them before, a chocolate brioche, and an item I haven't had in years, a Stromboli. The sweet treat was very good, maybe one of my favorites. Thin brioche bread that sandwiches dark chocolate chips and a bit of custard, a simple but very tasty result. The Stromboli was very good too, almost pizza like dough that is gooey on the inside and crisp on the outside, with ham, salami and a little cheese. Dipped into my own tomato sauce this was a satisfying lunch portion. So why not 5 stars? It's the costs of their baked goods. In Princeton these prices are not seen as prohibitive, but this is Trenton. Many people who shop in this location are using food stamps or on a very tight budget. $8 for a loaf of bread seems to be few dollars too high. While I was there I did not see any other purchases and there appeared to be quite a bit of product left. I worry that by pricing things too highly, less will be sold and the business will not be sustainable? And I do want them to succeed here. Great addition to this market and one that will prompt me to visit more!
