I'm rating this facility mostly based on the fitness center which is available to all DC residents…read moreat no cost. Of the recreation centers that I've visited so far in DC, this fitness center is the most updated and well-kept. The crowd is pretty steady regardless of the time of day (I've been at different hours of the day and days of the week between 6:30AM-7:30PM) but I've never been able to not use equipment during my 45-60 minutes workouts. Note that the fitness center closes 30 minutes before the posted hours (I.e. if the rec center closes at 8PM, the fitness center closes at 7:30PM). Not pictured are also more weight machines, a dumbbell rack with weights 5-100lbs and kettlebells. Aside from the fitness center, there's also the athletic field, playground, rooftop garden, outdoor basketball/tennis courts, and a gymnasium. From what I've seen, events at this rec center are more-so geared towards folks under 18 and 55+.

Here's why it's worth a visit: 1) Amenities: There's a lot to do inside and outside. On the outside, there's a massive field, a track, playground, a garden and basketball courts. Pre-pandemic, the inside has a gym, classrooms, etc. 2) Views: There's an area with benches with beautiful views of nearby Trinity Washington University. This recreation is new and super nice. It's worth a visit!

I was having a discussion…read morewith a friend about working out, when she said, she took water Zumba because it was easier on her joints. Fast forward two weeks, now my friend expected me to join her for a class...or two. At 8 in the morning (Jesus be a fence)! The only time I make my way out of the house before 8am is when that venture involves $$$. Otherwise, you will find me in bed sleep, or contemplating the facts of my life IN BED. So yea, I was coaxed into an early morning water Zumba class, sweetened with an offer to pay. I pull up to the center, after a not so pleasant encounter with the owners at Atlantic Carry Out ( I spoke about 2 words to them and they said two to me). My friend is wide awake...and bubbling. We arrived to the water a tad late, but was welcomed in by the instructor's boisterous voice (Eric). I didn't think water Zumba would be difficult, not having done it before, but I will tell you that its not for punks. My body is still burning, but my back was unharmed. I had a great time. Chilled with some old ladies in the shallow end of the pool after the class, and relaxed a bit in the jacuzzi. The facility was clean and I noticed that they have a lot of activities for kids/family (several levels of summer camp was in session when I arrived). 4 whole stars

So I've been to this place a thousand times over the last year and can't believe I've never checked…read morein or done a review. I play in an adult league for volleyball here and my kickball teams often frequent the baseball fields for practice. The gym is the size of like a small town high school gym, but it gets the job done. There are bleachers only on one side but not a big deal at all. When we play there we can tell the gym isn't used as often just because of how much actual dust is on the floor. We literally had to sweep before using almost each time. It's a community center so a few times I've been it appears there were other events going on too like birthday parties or other celebrations. There are 2 parking lots: one for buses and one for cars. The fields are nice. They are maintained and the grass is usually cut. One field has a raised mound and the other does not. You can only see one field from the street, but there are two! One is at the top of the hill! Definitely will be back!

The trashcan is almost always full and overflowing. Aside from that, the outdoor spaces are in good shape for the public. There are two softball fields and I believe Oakcrest also has the soccer field down below. I've also played volleyball inside the community center a few times. The gym is small but large enough for us to set up two volleyball courts side by side. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restrooms are also maintained well although they are a bit old. Overall, Oakcrest is a well-kept and welcoming space for the community.
