There's a short easy trail around part of the small lake (part of the lake has private homes.) Mosquitos are monstrous, the stocked trout clearly have plenty to eat. Bring bug spray! There's no boat launch, but the walk from the free parking to the shore is about .2 miles down hill, so you could easily carry a lightweight kayak if you're inclined. Its very serene here and there's lots of nature trees. This location is best enjoyed by small motorless watercraft.

With all kidding aside, to me it didn't seem that long at all, rather not long enough. Big Sky Charter & Fish Camp's owner Joe is a wonderful man who has years of experience and knowledge of the Kenai river and it's layout. His lodge fronts the riverside and you can fish from shore. On a side note, if you fish from shore and you somehow manage to cast your lure into the trees...don't try to climb the trees to get your lure out...as a family member found out it didn't carry his weight well and he fell into the 45-50 degree water. Luckily he didn't get swept with the current, although unluckily he found out he broke a good sized branch of a protected tree - on second thought maybe this would only happen if you're related to me... If you're looking to experience true river fishing, Joe has fishing guides that will take you out for a full or half day. Each guide is certified and are avid fishermen, both knowledgeable and personable. After you catch your fish...(this is the part that I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE)... Joe and his team will clean the fish for you!! *yayy!!* You can take the parts that you want to make sashimi out of or cook for meals, the rest they will vacuum pack, freeze, and package for you to take home. They also provide smoking and canning services for your catches. This is definitely on my "to-do" list for next salmon season!!! If you go, please send them my Aloha!!!

The whole staff is wondeful and can we single just one out. No we can not they all provided wonderful service and it is like spending time with family that you truly like. Accomidations were wonderful, food was amazing (thank you Brian and Gina(hope I got you name right). They have their children also helping and they are amazing...and the fresh cookie of the day was a big hit. Our fishing trips were great and our guides did a great job. We came home with more salmon, halibut and cod then our freezer could hold. Were we sad to leave, yes we were, would we do it again, in a heartbeat. Already planning our next visit back.
