The Grateful Red Irish Red Ale from Kenai River Brewing!
    Alden C.

Kenai River Brewing is in my mind is in a more remote part of Alaska and that may sound amusing to say as in this state it's very easy and frequent to wind up in a remote location. But for a town just hovering below 5,000 people it seems like this is the local hub here. And pleasantly enough there is a brewery here to make it also a hub for some enjoyment as well in addition to necessities. For Kenai River Brewing the beer that I had and Steve had some sips of was the Grateful Red. This is an Irish Red Ale that I liked and a type of beer I don't often get but every once in a while I like getting one. Flavor features with this beer are malty, hoppy and with a clean aftertaste. The beer goes down smooth and is light bodied which I can always appreciate. Very glad and extremely thankful to try this brewery that in my mind is certainly off many beaten paths.

This is a great brew pub. Nice beer selections made onsite. There is a nice food selection with standard and vegetarian options. It's order at the counter, with the food served at the table. It's back off the main drag. Rustic hip look

Wow we loved this brewery! The atmosphere! My husband and I sat out back, there was plenty of seating, surrounded by trees. It was so lovely! Dan enjoyed wings and I enjoyed ice cream, and of course the beer! If you can't decide what beer you want, roll the dice! The coolest idea! One of our favorite breweries on our trip! Thank you!

Best Mac 'n Cheese I've ever had. Add the chicken and bacon. The cheese sauce is so smooth and creamy with great flavor.

The food was excellent. We went for their Sunday brunch. Chicken fried steak and eggs & eggs, Benedict with Home fries. The service was excellent and always a low-key ambience. Would recommend to anyone

Beautiful venue. Menu looked amazing. Definitely a wonderful place to wind down after a day of hiking!

I was in Soldotna to visit friends and they recommended this place for food. Unfortunately, I only had time to have one dish and that was their pastrami sandwich. However, it's indicative of the food their serve. It was delicious and refreshingly generous. As I ate my sandwich, I saw lots of food go past me as they were being served and I would have had any one of them. The place is nice with a lively atmosphere. They serve a lot of local beer flavors made on site, but I did not try any. My friends however are big fans of their brews. It's absolutely a must-go kinda place when you're visiting Soldotna or any other nearby town.

Stopping for a break and some cold beer on our drive from Homer back to Anchorage, we made our way to Kenai River Brewing. We had already eaten a late lunch in Homer, so this review can't speak to their food menu, although everything coming out of the kitchen looked quite tasty! I had their Russian River Razz in addition to trying a flight of a few of their other pours. I liked the Russian River Razz the most and was the one I ended up ordering a full pint of. My husband tried some of their darker beers and thought that they were mellow and smooth. They were following all social distancing and health protocols, with limited capacity and masks required. A nice little stop to break up the drive between Anchorage and Homer.

This is my 2nd time eating/drinking here. Each time has been good and I had no issue getting a table. Burgers were juicy and nicely flavored although I wish they had gluten free buns as an option. Nice selection of beer and each one I've tried has been delicious. They also have NA options on draft including root beer and kombucha.

Really enjoyed my visit here. We arrived when it opened and there was a line to get in. Appreciated that we got to order food at the counter and the beer from the bar. Decent pub food and great beer. Which we could have sat outside but it was a bit on the cooler side. Friendly staff who seeMed genuinely pleased to serve.

I can't edit my review, so here is my response to the business owner:…read more "Normally I wouldn't bother with a review like this. We were all very confused reading the comments referring to "poor quality" as nothing of the like has been mentioned before. I'm not saying everyone should love our beer or anything like it - everyone has different tastes. " Maybe because most of the people that have been drinking the beer are close friends and don't want to be negative? If you are confused about a "poor quality" comment, that is disheartening because it likely means there won't be attempts to improve quality. I don't think it's your brewing style, I love the concepts and ideas of your beers, I just do not like the execution. I am trying to give constructive feedback, I am not trying to be mean. I think you might have an issue with oxygen ingress in your system or maybe you are cold crashing too quickly. But I'm not a professional brewer, which is why I suggested getting honest feedback from other brewers down on the Kenai. "But to go as far as you did seemed to cross a line. Then I saw a few similar comments you made about other local breweries, who I know are fantastic, and the lightbulb sparked. This is the classic example of "there's always going to be that one person"." To my taste, the beers were oxidized (candy-sweet malt flavor, greyish appearance for the hazies) and the beers had a buttery finish. If you think that is great quality, I guess we have different definitions of quality? Were those aspects induced in these beers on purpose? Was that the brewer's intent? In that case, you succeeded. Maybe I just imagined them tasting like that? I don't think I did, I really wanted to love them, but I guess anything is possible. I don't know what to say about the comment about other breweries, I've reviewed a lot of them so I don't know which ones you're referring to. I have given all Kenai breweries 4 stars or higher except one, that has mediocre pizza, stale beer ideas, and hateful politics. So if I had to guess, I'd think you are describing St Elias as "fantastic", which means the two of us have different ideas of what a great brewery looks/feels/tastes like. I'm much more of a Cooper Landing person when it comes to Kenai breweries. I do know Ravens Ring in Anchorage had very similar issues (actually I would argue much, much worse issues, I couldn't not finish one of their beers and did send it back) with their beer to what your beers are displaying. And it seems like those issues have been largely fixed. I don't think they ever denied having issues though. "I remember you coming in taking pictures with your camera. You and the other two tried no more than a few samples each, then ordered beers which came back empty. You had numerous opportunities to come and address any issues with us, but you didn't. We are happy to make things right. I'm glad you're pleased with the building and the service. We've worked hard for a very long time to make it happen, and even harder now to provide the community with a great atmosphere and service. Sorry you weren't happy. The feeling is mutual. Take care!" It's great you remember, I said I sampled "multiple" beers. I also tasted the samples my Mom and brother received. In my opinion, they all had issues. Also, without any prompting on my part, my brother and mom expressed similar concerns about the character of the beer. I agree, I should've discussed these issues with y'all face-to-face. Shame on me for not doing that. I am truly sorry. I guess I just didn't want to spoil the mood, everyone seemed so happy and there was a fun energy in the place. I will be back, for sure. At that point I will sample everything on tap and discuss issues with you right at the bar. As it stands though, it seems like you don't think there are any issues. If that's the case, my feedback will be similar. I hope you can get the kinks worked out of your system. It just worries me that you seem to think there aren't any.

So many great stories. The beer is incredible. Not only do they have unique and quippy names (a huge plus to an English teacher) but they taste amazing. Great variety and flavor. I would suggest getting a sampler before diving into a specific beer. The inside seating area has about four tables. There is a cooler with bottled beer for purchase and lots of unique and fun merchandise. It is very clean and smells nice (like malt and yeast, which I happen to like). When we were there, the brewery was for sale and I'm not sure what has happened with that or if it will affect the future of the brewery. It is, however, definitely worth the visit!

While we were there, it was an imperial honey wheat, a strong scotch ale, and a smoked porter. The guy working the counter was very kind, we got to talking and it turns out he is the brewer! He really knows his stuff. I used to be pretty into homebrewing, so we geeked out pretty heavily. They have free popcorn and outdoor seating, bring the dog. The brewery is squeaky-clean, as a brewery well should be. Definitely worth a stop if your travels take you north of Kenai.
