We have now used Paul at Kempler Design twice. Once at a rental property we own, that was about 3-4 years ago. And then just at our primary residence. Each experience has been wonderful. Each visit, Paul took the time to show us several videos of the different type window coverings and how they worked (motorized, types, layouts etc.). Then he showed us many different samples. We had a great experience with Kempler Design. Paul came to our house and spent the necessary time to understand our unique desires for our window treatments. After much discussion and review of available treatment types, we decided on plantation shutters for the windows that can be seen from the street and roller shades for those facing the backyard. Once that selection was made, Paul carefully went over each and every option available for both types of treatment. We ended up selecting 3" slats with hidden push rods for the shutters, and motorized roller shades. Paul worked with us to ensure the color combo worked. We're very happy with the end results. July 2016: Paul Kempler showed up to give us a "Free Estimate," but it turned out to be an annoying waste of our time. In short, our experience with Paul led us to feel he is: Useless. Overpriced. Pretentious. not to mention Condescending. Apparently, our budget displeased Paul and he slapped his tablet shut and dismissed the appointment. We were told, "Well, if that's your budget then I have nothing for you." We had been very clear when sched an appt with Paul that only one room needed treatments, but he still insisted he wanted to come over to do an estimate. We had particular difficult sky light Windows that needed covering to reduce the temperature of the house in summer in our solarium. It was a very difficult installation. I have been meaning to write this for a few weeks. I cannot thank Mr. Kempler enough for his HONEST consult! This is very rare and hard to find these days. We wanted to take the window coverings from previous owners down, and put up a white cornice board til we knew what to do. We were ready to write him a check, but he was so honest with us and encouraged us to really think about it before spending the money on something he thought would not look as good compared to what already existed. We thought about it, and he was so right! Once we are ready to change the current design we will definitely be calling him. Just had some drapes installed, and couldn't be more thrilled! we have a smaller, older home with wood paneling (yes, it's still around!) around the large living room window, and hard wood floors. it was a choice of replacing the patterned sofa and wool rug - that we both love (and we think beautiful!) - or getting new drapes. wow! new drapes were the right choice! paul is so experienced (i think he said he's been doing this for 27 years) and knowledgeable! i wanted lighter weight drapes so the room didn't feel so closed in, and something that would bring out the colors in the sofa and rug. perfection! paul is great to work - he's fun, relaxed, and easy to talk to! i didn't feel intimidated by his knowledge and my lack thereof - he listens to what you're saying, describing, and if you're not sure what you want (me!) he tosses out ideas, suggestions... goes thru material types, backing - end result? beautiful! again, wow! thank you, paul! read more

Hired Kempler Design. Out $500. Problem not fixed. While we were out of town, our house manager paid Kempler Design's owner $500 in cash to fix our non-operating motorized Hunter Douglas Silhouette shade. He didn't fix it though. Did Kempler return the money? Nope! Did Kempler return my phone call when we returned and found out what happened? Nope! Were electric wires hanging down from the Shade? Yes. Luckily we found a local company called Prime Installations to finish Kempler's work. Of course we had to pay another company, but we learned a lesson about Kempler Design. Paul Kempler makes a series of very informative and useful videos on YouTube about window blinds and various treatment options, including on very unique products. One of these videos piqued my interest, but I am from out of the area. I contacted the company and got through to Paul right away; he explained the product I was interested in was no longer available but consulted with me on the phone about my situation and requirements and suggested alternative products I hadn't considered (despite considerable research already done on my end) that could meet both my functional and aesthetic requirements. Extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and just a nice guy. Much nicer than the people I had already contacted in my local area who had been out to my home and described themselves literally as "the WORLD'S foremost expert in blind motorization" or other people who blew off appointments. Paul arrived at our apartment a few minutes early. He was courteous, engaging, thoughtful about our space and well-prepared with parts and tools. He fixed our problem quickly and while he is not the cheapest out there (our experience has been you are rarely best off picking the cheapest) when it came to time to pay he very generously waived his minimum. We just purchased a brand new construction residence in S. Lake Tahoe which was mostly windows. Paul was able to take our visual ideas and make them reality. There were several types of window coverings involved, wood shutters, automatic blinds and black out drapes for the media room. The end result of each project greatly exceeded our expectations. Okay - since my last review, Paul installed wood shutters in my Mom's home and she loves them. This is important because she is very picky and complains if she does not like something (i.e. complains TO ME). Not a single complaint so far and it has been about 6 months - YEAH. Got to our cabin yesterday and looked at the Roman shade Paul installed for us this summer. I simply love it! Paul had suggested this type of window covering for such a difficult angled window and his recommendation could not have been better. He also installed motorized shades for very tall angled windows in our living room and again, they look wonderful. For some reason one of them came off the bracket and Paul was here in no time at all to fix it and alter the bracket so it would not happen again. It was especially helpful that Paul asked questions about what and why we wanted what we wanted, as it led to our getting EXACTLY what we wanted..... Whereas, other companies just told us we couldn't get what we wanted - but they didn't investigate and show us alternatives of what would work perfectly, and end up being exactly what we wanted all along, as Paul did. We really appreciate Paul Kempler going just a little bit further with an effort to please. The other companies were in too much of a hurry to do this. We got three estimates, and though Paul's wasn't the very lowest in price, it was the best in value and most importantly it was what we wanted! It's awesome when someone is creative enough to help you achieve what you intended all along just by asking questions and suggesting alternatives that you didn't know existed.
