If you arrive in Munich, especially during Oktoberfest, in search of Weissbier, Pilsner, Dunkel,…read moreKölsch, Bock, you should round out the food you pair with your brew and have some amazing noodles at Max's. The only reason we had lunch at this spot was a table could only be had after a 40 minute wait on the curb. Feet almost never lie, especially when what drives those feet is hunger and a sharp, discerning taste. When it comes to this variety of noodles, I've spent years living in Asia and Max's brought be back to one of my favorite hawker centers. They make the noodles right in front of you. The broth, the beef, the spice.... perfection. Just for fun, I added a Fanta to my meal and then begged for another hit of noodles, which they will do, if you ate the type of person to finish them before consuming the broth, which is the correct way to eat Chinese noodles.

Max' is one of those few super efficiently run seated places where you don't need to feel obliged to tip or even order a drink, which makes the bill quite cheap by Munich standards. The beef soup ... is thin, consisting mostly of cheap noodles and watery broth that you need to make flavorable with the chili on your table. It's a weird niche they found here ... maybe their soupless noodle dishes are more savory, but I doubt I'll be back for more, and definitely won't wait for a spot.

Zum Brunnergarten is a bit off the beaten path (located in Luitpold Park) but our Airbnb host…read morerecommended it. It's apparently his favourite beer garden in Munich. It's a mix of German and Balkan food. We dropped in on a Thursday afternoon (around 1:45pm) and it was filled with a small group of German seniors enjoying the sunshine. Seems like a lot of regulars come here. There's no English menu (we asked) but our server was extremely helpful and spoke excellent English. The menu consists of bread, sausages, warm food, small plates and grilled dishes. Their drink menu is extremely cheap and reasonable. - Radler (€2,90 for 0,5L) - they mix their radler with 7 Up. Not much taste wise but it's light. - Weissbier (€3,20 for 0,5L) - supposedly malty but to me, it was light. Typical German beer. - Pfannkuchensuppe (€3,00) - German pancake soup. Broth is a light, clear soup; reminded me of chicken noodle soup. The strips of pancake were interesting but plain. - Pommes (€3,00) - a side of thin cut fries with a package of curry ketchup. These reminded me of McDonald style fries. Decent filler. - Grillteller (€12,90) - served with djuvec rice, raw chopped onions and ajvar (red bell pepper and oil sauce). The grilled meat platter included a spicy sausage, two cevapcici, kalbsleber (calf liver) and pork. All the meat was excellently grilled but our favourite cuts were the pork (juicy and moist) and spicy sausage (tasty with a slight kick to it). Worth a visit especially if you want a more local beer garden experience.

Finally we decided to give this a try. The restaurant itself is quite big inside and, there are a number of tables outside. The staff are friendly and helpful and the menu had a lot of options, many of which I have never heard of. I thought I would order pikante / Scharf chicken in Sczhewan style to see what hot was like. I also had a hot and sour soup (something I judge almost all Chinese restaurants by). The main course arrived and it was like a schnitzel of chicken on some vegetable and a separate sauce, which was not hot at all. The chicken tasted good and once I added a spoonful of chilli paste it was just right ;-)) the hot and sour soup was not hot or sour and again a spoonful of chilli and soy sauce fixed that ;-)) Overall it was quite ok and I would probably come back here as it close to where we live. Must however, keep looking for great Chinese food in Munich :-))

We were 4 people. - 3 of us had food that we found too spicy - 2 of the meals were really not nice, and one was very average. One of the meals had rock hard pieces of chicken. - when serving the first two meals the waiter said: You better start eating because the other two meals will still take some time'. It took almost 10 minutes before the other two main courses arrived. - when we finished our food, we waited 30 minutes and non of the staff asked if we wanted more drinks or desert (they were not 'too busy', just seemed uninterested. - the staff seemed untrained in general, but that kind of 'goes together with' a Chinese restaurant. This place was just really much worse than that. The only advantages of this place are - lots of parking spaces - nicely decorated, comfortable seats - clean toilets
