This place is like the storage room at the end of Indiana Jones where they hide the Ark of the Covenant, a never-ending warehouse filled with boxes of interesting and arcane stuff. That stuff being the good stuff AKA sweet sweet booze, son. Got a hankering for something short batch and hard to find? They'll have it. Want something to inspire you, something you've never seen or heard of before? They got it. Hell, maybe you're going to Moonlight Cinema and have the booze sorted, but need some deli-style snacks to with it. Yep, sorted. Giant green olives stuffed with fresh chilli, thanks for asking. And oh, the holy land of an independent liquor store! They're getting harder and harder to find these days, nigh impossible really. Kemeny's is a grocery store, no Kemeny's is an off licence or is it a chemist oh wait maybe an organic food store. Ok it's really hard to know what it's suppose to be but it's basically a bit of all of the above and then some more. The store offers a lot in terms of alcohol. They got s great selection of wines and beers and some quirky party drinks to suit any cocktail party in which you want to impress. They often have suppliers giving out samples here and staff are helpful when it comes to suggesting suitable drink for any occasion. The grocery section is a little random and I don't think it's the kind of store you would likely go to do a weekly shop at because they have limited choices for certain things. They do however offer some unusual snacks and foods and your bound to pick up something every time you go here to try just for the fun. It's a different experience in here and would highly recommend it as an off licence and perhaps good for party snacks otherwise your probably better off making the trip up to Bondi Junction for one of the main stream supermarkets. read more

A wine supermarket, yes you read that right, Kemeny's is a huge booze-mart. It's kind of like an adult candy store isn't it? There are rows and rows of wine in here, if you're a wannabe wine connoisseur this is the place to go. There's a huge selection and lots of information about the wines, the regions and even the food and other wine matching suggestions. Half of the Kemeny's store is wine, while the other half operates as a mini-supermarket, you can locate just about everything you're after here. If you're heading to a BBQ or picnic down at Bondi, Bronte or any of the local beaches, Kemeny's is the perfect store to stop at grab your wine, breads, dips, nibbles, crackers, cheese - well whatever really. When the Zombie Apocalypse hits I want to be trapped in Kemenys. In fact if any of you guys know when it's coming please let me know so I can leg it straight there. Every household item you could possibly need, as well as some that have no apparent purpose, is stocked in this treasure trove. I'm also pretty sure the security guy there could kick some zombie arse if the need arose. Primarily renowned for its' terrific wine selection, Kemenys also has as wide a range of goods as any big name supermarket - here you'll find both gourmet and no name cheeses, olive oils, meats etc. Following the same principle they have a great range of their own brand of "Hidden Label" cleanskin wines. Back to the wine, every wine they stock has a blurb with a description, matching suggestion, region etc. In keeping with the large Jewish and South American communities in the area they have Kosher and Brazilian sections. The only things I try not to get here is catfood as it's pretty expensive, and fruit & veg because the Fruitologist down the road has fresher produce. read more

I love Kemeny's! My main food groups are "entrées" and "fermented grape juice"... Kemeny's is perfect. There's a huge, really well-priced selection of liquor and a great range of deli-like foods (with some standard grocery fare thrown in). It's like there's a party at your house and Kemeny's is catering! Prices aren't cheap but aren't unreasonable either... Staff range from friendly/helpful to downright pains... The general "vibe" is pretty run down... But it's still awesome! read more

Kemenys is a supermarket stocking the usual items on your household grocery list, but what people really come in here for and what makes Kemenys different from other supermarkets is their selection of wines and other alcoholic beverages. Their wine section takes up about a third of the store and are categorised into more sections than your usual bottle-O, Reds, Whites, NZ, Imported, Rieslings and the list goes on. If you ever visit this place on the weekend, you'll be sure to find old married couples filling up their shopping trolley to fill the cellar, families grabbing the odd bottle to have with dinner and younger singles and couples buying a mix of beer and wine and a lot of it closer to the weekend. A good place to go when you need to kill two birds with one stone and get your shopping done without having to do the stop off at the grog shop on the way home. read more

These guys were my local grocery store for a few months. I had a bad experience with them once where an over-zealous checkout girl decided to get me to open every single pouch and zipper of my backpack and empty my stuff out. I don't look anything like a shoplifter (at least I don't think I do!), I'm in my mid-30s, IT nerd, I've never shoplifted anything in my life, I'd been shopping at Kemeny's for months, a regular customer, but on that day, Kemeny's decided to assume I was a thief! She eventually let me go having obviously found nothing in my bags. I sent their management a "please explain" but they didn't bother giving me a reply. Pretty bad customer service all around, IMO. read more

Good collection of booze....staff is very friendly...very convenient if u r visiting @ beach area....they have a big parking space on watsons st....paypass or credit available....there r nice shops to eat in around the corner... read more
