I'm so sorry to see negative reviews of New Haven, and frankly I don't understand them. New Haven…read moresaved my child's life and our family. It's not perfect (communication needs to improve and sometimes it's a little disorganized), but it is a solid program with incredibly caring, well-trained professionals who work tirelessly to help your child grow and break negative behavior patterns. My child has formed lasting, supportive, healthy relationships with several of the staff and fellow students. She has greatly improved her grades and study habits. She has found the motivation and stability to live her best life. She is respectful, kind, responsible, and conscientious. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend New Haven to someone whose child is struggling. There is nothing remotely abusive about this place - it truly is a 'haven.' My group of fellow NH parents would all say the same. It is a uniquely inclusive environment, more than welcoming to kids of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and religions. FWIW, I will say that I could not have given such a good review a few months ago before my child turned a therapeutic corner - it seemed hopeless, despite New Haven's best efforts. You really do need to give the program time to work. Perhaps negative reviews are from those who left early and didn't get the full benefits of the program? ‍

At one point even took away my communication (any form of writing/paper). On top of this the therapists joked about me being suicidal to staff and each other. Basically treated me like garbage. I was allowed to fully starve myself to the point I required hospitalization. And even THEN it took them a full 2+ hours to get me to a hospital because they wanted me to "cooperate" with them. No fucking way am I going to. Also they strip search you when you first arrive. Taking away ALL privacy. And they joke with each other about your body and how you look. I came here in 2024 and spent a grand 6 days here. And the entire time I was mistreated, neglected, and joked about to all the staff. They also force you to do manual labor to "possibly" earn outside time. And even then it's a MAX of 15 minutes and you are basically put on a leash to be allowed outside. Completely unprofessional facility, absolutely destroyed my mental health/well being. If you are thinking of sending your child here, just know they will forever resent you and rightfully so.

My daughter and I were very attracted to Maple Mountain Recovery and Wellness from their website…read more The integration of functional medicine was very appealing especially since my daughter has previously had mental health inpatient treatment. After several intake discussions via phone with Kris, an admissions counselor at Maple Mountain Recovery and Wellness, my daughter decided to admit to Maple Mountain Recovery and Wellness. I paid the $2200 bed deposit based on the information received during these phone calls. Within 24 hours of paying this deposit, my daughter and I travelled across the country expecting her to admit to a detox house for 3-5 days. Detox was required because of a drug she was prescribed by her psychiatrist for many years. My daughter is suffering from mental health issues. She does not have a substance abuse problem. When we arrived, and before any other information was obtained , the detox requirement changed to 5-7 days. We decided to tour Maple Mountain Recovery and Wellness before admitting to detox. While Kris from admissions was very personable, he gave us false information during our initial phone calls. He stated on these phone calls that during my daughter's stay at Maple Mountain her therapist would be physically present with her during ketamine treatment. When we toured the facility Kris told us that the therapist would see her 24 hours after therapy. Having experience in mental health treatment, this was a major setback for my daughter. Also during the tour it was discovered that male and female sections are loosely separated. Again, a major issue. We were mislead prior to the scheduled admission and decided to not admit. We didn't have a level of trust or comfortable feeling about the level of care promised. I requested a refund of my "non refundable" deposit based on the fact that we were mislead. I spent more than $2000 in last minute travel to admit to this facility which couldn't provide the services promised. While I believe Kris supported my request for refund, ownership denied my request for refund of the bed deposit. If you or a loved one are considering admission to this facility please know that it is not a facility that will do the right thing, it is very loosely run and doesn't have established therapy protocols. I speak from experience because unfortunately this would have been my daughter's fifth admission to an inpatient facility. Please be sure to tour this facility and ask very specific questions and even then know they will not do as promised nor do the right thing!! Side note: there was at least 4 open female beds at the time of our tour. Our bed deposit didn't keep anyone from admitting to their facility!!

This place is truly an amazing space for healing and love. I've gone to psych hospitals before and…read morehad a traumatic experience there. Maple Mountain however is amazing! Every worker here truly cares about you. They ask usually about everyday how each person is doing (normally in a group setting) and always are asking how they can help. They do multiple fun or enlightening activities a week such as making candles, sweat lodges, salt caves etc. If you need help with something as well, they will help you. I needed to move out of my apartment and a worker drove me there and we spent 6 hours packing. You're not a prisoner here. They don't set an unrealistic timetable on your healing. They only help. If there's anything I would potentially warn people about it would be this; they don't force you to do anything at all. Seriously, not anything. So if right now you need someone to force you out of bed, tell you to leave your room, or make you take some medications, then you're out of luck. You need to be a certain level of independent before you come. This place changed my life for the better and saved it. Thank you to all the people who work here

The therapist tried to teach me like she would an autistic child, and completely ignored my borderline personality disorder, which was and still is my main issue. Upon returning home I was checked into a psych hospital because my borderline got so bad, because at this center they do not work with people who have my disorder. Let me start on the staff, nice, yes. But they are not legally allowed to give you any advice. I would ask them and they would redirect me to my therapist, whom I saw two times a week. Some of my closest friends saw their therapists once a week at the most. They were always there, just sitting in their offices, typing on their laptops. The food at maple lake was horribly unhealthy. We ate all carbs and I gained like 10 pounds while I was there. I still don't see how putting us on an unhealthy diet containing mostly frozen food was going to help us mentally. We would be given enormous portions and expected to eat most of it in order to throw the rest away. Almost every meal I was force feeding myself to the point where I was going to vomit before I was allowed to throw away my food. The girls are nice, but if your child is a lesbian, I would not recommend sending them to this school. One of my closest friends and a girl whom I despise to this day would hook up in the closet when the staff were busy. They eventually admitted it, also admitting to have seeing several of us pee while they were getting it on in the closet connecting to the bathroom. While I was there my roommate peed on the floor. I am not kidding. My room smelled horrible for 2 weeks before they did anything about it. The school also has a large stealing problem. Do not bring anything to the school you like. Makeup, shampoo, conditioner, any nice or expensive toothpaste, etc. there were times where I would buy a brand new conditioner and whithin one week it would be empty. There is no way I was using that much myself, so I wrote "go back to the litter box b***h" on my bottle. Within hours the girl who I assumed was stealing for me came crying to staff saying that I was writing hate notes to her. My conditioner was in my own drawer, nowhere that she could have seen it unless she was stealing from me. I was then punished for her trying to steal from me because of my plan to catch her stealing. The staff are truly lovely people, despite the fact they are incompetent college students, and they try to do what they can to make our day better, that is if they like you. Some of them would be flat out rude to the students because they did not like them. Overall, maple lake was one of the worst expieriences of my life, and I try my best to forget it happened completely. 9 months of my life and my parents money completely wasted.

The staff neglected, abused, and absolutely berated the kids in so many different cases. I think the worst I went through was being forced to sit on a mattress away from everybody else in the school, similar to solitary confinement. I saw many people get put in "therapeutic holds" for stuff as much as swearing, or doing something the staff did not like. My therapist who we will call L, was a really nice guy but was an elderly gentleman and towards the end of my stay he fell and cracked his head open while at his desk. His memory was altered which is not a good thing when you are in charge of people who want to succeed and get to a higher level of functioning. He forgot I was on "matress" and left me there in turmoil reeling in my own head for 3 months as I slowly lost my mind. I still have PTSD from some of the things I went through. Like there was this big fan above the group room where I was forced to stay and sometimes I will look up and see it spinning or I will look out a window and see the neighbors farm and someone being taken down by a PCS hold. overall very disturbing and I did learn more about myself but it was not something I would recommend. I also saw lots of sexual harassment from both staff to staff and students to staff. The worst was some of the things I heard one of the staff members say about our yoga teacher, they were so innapropriate I will leave them out of this review. The staff were unprofessional and untrained. Ive never felt as unsafe as i did at that place, at one point while we were at a co ed group with the girls school we were in a tight space during an RT activity, and i accidentally bumped into a girl's butt. Being the insecure piece of shit I was at the time I told everyone I slapped her ass on purpose and got in a lot of trouble, their reaction was to put me on "red status" and have me talk to the girl, where she just said I knew it was an accident you're good. But the way I saw even some of the staff treated was insane, the kids would get "crushes" on certain female staff members and it was disgusting, one staff member, we will call her H, she was probably the closest to me and they told us we couldnt talk, even though our friendship was completely nonsexual and her support was something I thank her for every day, if it wasn't for her that place would have been more of a hell than it was. The food was greasy and high in fat, My face was covered in acne because of it. Long story short, DONT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. save them the hell I went through if I could give this place a zero rating I would. the levels of control and manipulation were through the roof. for example, I spoke up once because a kid was being bullied by two of the staff members and as a punishment they made me clean all the dishes in the sink over and over again. One staff member even purposely spilled a shit load of rice all over a table and told me to pick it up after missing one or two specks of uncooked meat off the table while cleaning. thats all for now, but I could go on and on about the abuse I faced

It seemed they protected and defended the therapist. I elevated my concerns to the CEO and he refused to speak to me. Since my lower level efforts to impact change were not successful, my concerns were elevated to government authorities. The outcome is that the therapist was ARRESTED for child abuse to my son. The Department of Child & Family Services substantiated that my son was abused by his therapist. The Department of Professional Licensing conducted two separate investigations and both times found the therapist was not behaving appropriately towards my son and issued the therapist informal disciplinary action. The therapist was required to take addition training and received other action. It did not go on the therapist's public licensing but is permanently on the therapist's internal records. The Directors continued to defend and protect the therapist and this therapist continues to work at Discovery Ranch months after these government findings.
