A lot of studios are closed. La, the owner who answered the phone was so welcoming and lovely on the phone. I usually do yoga and Pilates kind of things, but it was always my dream to learn how to dance, to express through dance, with all kinds of styles! I love House music and guess what? They have a house music dance class (and salsa, Zumba, afrobeats and many many more )! I felt like I hit the jackpot. My first class was an Afrobeats class and it was everything I envisioned it to be and so much more! I sweated just as much as when I take a weight training gym class but except I had so much more fun and had a smile on my face the whole time. Mind you I was the only Asian in the class but everyone was so awesome, encouraging and friendly. Hugs and high fives were given and i felt so comfortable and welcomed! I will be coming back and bringing all my friends to come have a good time working out through dance! I found them last Tuesday and I'll be taking my 3rd class tonight! This time, I took class with Amber, and she is truly a 10 out of 10 -- from her character to her teaching style, choreography, and ability to educate dancers in real time. She doesn't just teach steps; she teaches movement vocabulary and helps you understand how to inhabit the choreography as it unfolds. That presence and clarity make the experience special. A lot of what I enjoy about Sass Class comes down to both the choreographers and the energy of the space. That said, there are some practical considerations. There is no elevator, which can be challenging because of the number of stairs you have to go up and down. The studio itself is small but functional. There's a small waiting area, a check-in desk, two bathrooms, and a spot to quickly change if needed. There are two studios, which allows classes to run smoothly without feeling crowded. The location is central, not far from Moynihan Train Hall or Port Authority, and there are plenty of food options nearby for before or after class. Overall, SASS Class continues to be a space I value. I fully intend to take more classes there in the future. For me, it's about the quality of instruction, the intentionality of the movement, and the community -- and that keeps drawing me back.

I wanted to do a "special" dance with my son. The dance would start off as a regular slow mother-son wedding dance and then we would have surprised the guests with kicking the dance into something more lighthearted - a choreographed dance filled with a compilation of old "skool" songs and a variety of 80's dances such as the Snake and the Wop. Jose was awesome. He fabulously choreographed the dance for my son and I, then ever-so-patiently taught it to us during our one-on-two lessons. In the end, I could sense my son was a bit overwhelmed with trying to learn the dances while simultaneously planning his wedding with his bride-to-be so I scrapped the dance, telling my son we would do a regular mother-son dance together. It ended up being amazing since he incorporated the 2-step, and spins Jose had previously taught him for his wedding dance into our Mother-son dance. I've already inquired about the other classes that are taught here. They teach all different kinds on different days. I definitely recommend and I'll definitely be back to learn more.
