The chicken thigh yakitori was OK- some little bits were blackened which gave this dry bad burned aftertaste. The eel nigiri was really delicious. However the scallop nigiri tasted off, and unpleasantly bitter. The rhubarb dessert I didn't like at all, and left the whole thing. They gave me a chocolate mousse on the house because they noticed I didn't eat the dessert, but I didn't really like the mousse either. The desserts really weren't well balanced, I'd take them off the menu entirely. The cream was overwhelmingly sweet, rhubarb mushy, and crumbles perplexing. I get what they were going for with adding texture but it didn't work. The mousse was two note, raspberry and chocolate, overwhelmingly sweet. The worst part was about 10 minutes after leaving, my stomach started to hurt terribly. It was definitely something I ate there. I had horrible stomach cramps/pains and sickness following. I won't go into the details, but I didn't have anything else to eat and this came upon pretty soon after leaving the restaurant, so I'm certain it was from something there. Maybe the scallops I thought were off? I trusted all of the great reviews.. assumed they know how to handle their shellfish. Maybe the dessert? I don't know what made me sick here, and I'll spare you the details, but I'm stuck having to stay close to the bathroom now and I am not thrilled.

Everything here seemed magical...it was so surreal. For a…read moremoment, I forgot where I was and thought I had been transported to a storybook and I was the princess and this was the magic kingdom of elegant sushi prepared just for me! (Heart eyes emoji here) I never thought that sushi could be so elegant. I was always under the impression of a cold cut, quick sharp knife through the veggies and fish type of sushi being everywhere type of deal. This was a whole new level. Not just as in the fact that there were many levels of outdoor seating to suit everyone's seating preferences (haha), but I mean a new level of taste enhancement reached. The sushi was absolutely phenomenal and every bite was a flavor exploration. I adored the Hello Kitty sushi (see pictures). It was my favorite! It has been a long time since I have had the service I had here at DOTS the other night. There are too many waiters at higher scale restaurants that either too serious, come around too often, or even both, which can make me feel a bit uncomfortable. Neither of those two factors (two that I always always consider at these types of restaurants) were even close to the truth that night. The waiters were light on their feet, as courteous as knights in a fairytale (yes, I was under the impression that they would be the knights in that fairtytale sushi world), and were very light-hearted and comical. They made certain that we truly were guests there and that our experience was special. Overrall, the place gave off a lovely, warm and inviting glow. I went at night when all of the candles were lit, creating the so-called fairytale effect I mentioned several times, that I still cannot get over. It made me feel at peace and at ease, and most of all, ready to slowly indulge in each individual decadent bite. Places like this that set a slow pace to eating really make me one happy camper (or should I say princess, hehe). They remind me of how food is a gift and a joy to experience! When you are able to slow down to enjoy each individual bite, then you know that you've come to the right place.

Don't think twice, your taste buds will thank you later. Combination's that you could have never imagined work (hence the 'experimental' part) become an experience. Duck maki, oh yeah. Geisha lips, delicious. Don't let the funny names or the extensive list fool you, this is THE place for amazing sushi in Wien. The sushi bomb mixture is phenomenal. A really great bar selection as well, had a mango bellini last week that was just about as fresh as can be. This is a white tablecloth place that appears to cater to the forward momentum crowd of Wien. A recent reservation for a Friday night needed to be placed the Monday before. As 'fancy' as it is, still was comfortable in nice jeans and a sweater and seemed to 'blend' into the clientele. The restaurant itself is located in what appears to be a former celler, the decor is great, in one of the back rooms you feel like you're in an old tavern, rustic exposed bricks and nice touches. It's both a fun restaurant for friends and a perfect date night place. In fact, I'd better get our 2/14 reservations quickly!

A small warning is warranted here: If you plan to stay to eat (as opposed to taking the food with you to the park opposite the road in summer) don't bring too many friends as this place has room for exactly 10 persons. Otherwise it's a very nice place which can be easily overlooked.

This time, our daughters convinced us they had their fill (for now) of Austrian food and wanted sushi. My daughter got a recommendation for a "good sushi place" within a 15 min walk of our hotel in Schweidenplatz. Our concierge recommended TokoRi, saying he often comes here himself. The decor is, well, Japanese. Cool fishtanks and a little fountain on the wall next to our table flowed into a little river running down the middle of the table. The tables are communal, but have plexiglas dividers between parties. We ordered: miso soups, California rolls (my younger daughter's only choice), gyoza, shrimp temporary, and the sushi sampler. The sushi was HUGE rolls, with generous fish on even more generous rice. It was tasty and fresh and held together well. The only dissapointment was the gyoza. My wife described the very finely minced filling as tasteless. And the price was very reasonable, given what we have been spending inVienna. Otherwise, if you are looking for good sushi near Scweidenplatz, look no further than TokiRi.
