My friend is looking for a new Shabbat experience and someone she met suggested this one. We…read morelooked at the online website and found the January date for the service at this location (they also meet at AJU on Saturday mornings). We have, together, been to many of the Jewish synagogues in the Valley and I have to say that, even two months later, this experience at Naschon Minyan still upsets me. Upon arriving at the Los Encinos school, we found our way to the room that is used for the Shabbat service. A lady with curly brown hair "greeted" us in this manner, "Our services are for members only," and, looking at me, "Are you even Jewish?" Well, we probably should've left then and there. Fortunately, another much kinder lady with straight black hair intervened and welcomed us like human beings. But there was such a fuss over CHAIRS! It was decided we would take two chairs reserved for her family. This begs the question, don't they have a few extra chairs somewhere? Once seated, the folks we sat with were very kind and gracious, especially a little girl and her grandfather. Although it felt very awkward (we were the only strangers in the room) we stayed for the entire service, which was actually nice. But after the service there was a dinner that was being served, and the issues that we hadn't rsvp'd and weren't members... Towards the end of our stay, the Rabbi/Cantor walked right past us, even though it was painfully obvious that we were the only strangers in the room with perhaps 2-3 dozen people. The kindly black-haired lady intervened, once again, and wrangled the Rabbi/Cantor back over to finally greet us as we were leaving. The Jewish tradition is to welcome the stranger. It's called Hachnasat Orchim. There are many references and I've included two... https://ravkarp.wordpress.com/2010/10/28/hachnasat-orchim-welcoming-the-stranger-as-a-jewish-virtue/ https://jewishweek.timesofisrael.com/welcoming-the-stranger-is-a-core-principle-of-judaism/ Needless to say, my friend and I won't be back, invited or not. Their website needs to explicitly state that ONLY members may attend services and that guests MUST rsvp. Truly disappointing. Yelp Challenge 2019: 17/100
