I broke my ankle, on a holiday weekend, 1 year ago. I had a trimalleolar fracture with dislocation…read more- which is a devasting break of all the ankle bones and the pain was unbearable. I was in DMH Emergency, and they reached out to Dr. Sams, who came in and performed the surgery (on a Saturday, on a holiday weekend!!!) so I didn't have to go back home in a soft cast and come back for surgery. I have a plate and 11 screws in all ... but, from the moment I came out of surgery I have had ZERO pain. I took ibuprofen the day I came home as a precaution because I thought I would need it (I didn't) - but that was it. NO pain - Dr. Sams was just wonderful, caring, and did an amazing job. I am a little over a year out from my traumatic injury, I have had no physical therapy, no pain, I don't limp, and I am back to walking fast, 5 miles a day with absolutely no issues. Right after the surgery, Dr. Sams spoke with my husband and told him that I would not get arthritis, and so far so good - you would never even guess I broke my leg. So THANK you Dr. Sams, and everyone at Decatur Orthopedic Center - you were all GREAT and kind, I appreciate you more than you will ever know!!!! AND, to anyone reading this - I am 67 years old, this injury could have really derailed me, I was so blessed that Dr. Sams was the doctor who showed up for me! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Sams and Decatur Orthopedic Center!

I set foot in the DOC office in Mt. Zion to get a note for my dad- who is on his 5th knee revision…read moreand can no longer walk down a steep asphalt drive way to safely get his mail out of a rural mailbox- so that the post office will deliver it to his door. Greeted by one woman who greets me, asks me what she can do for me, then proceeds to answer the phone and take a message!! She gets off her phone and tells me there is "a 20$ fee for any paperwork". As I explain my dad is no longer stable enough to safely navigate a steep asphalt drive way, and he isn't asking for any extensive paperwork like a handicap placard...she cuts in and says "we don't do those" to which I look her straight in the eye and said "I don't care. I can't believe a senior on fixed income, whose surgeries and office visits has contributed to the office significant revenue stream, is being charged $20 to write that he needs his mail delivered closer so he won't fall down!" I left. Utterly ridiculous! I'll fill it out myself and never step foot in that door again. Wait till those people are on fixed incomes!! This money grabbing doesn't belong in health care. I have been in healthcare 40 years as a nurse and as a provider and I NEVER CHARGED for these needed services. Oh and PS: put the caller on hold. I was here first! How rude!

I will say first off that there are several times where the wait was long, but that said, Dr. B is…read morefantastic! I have had three operations with him and am getting ready to have a fourth. (Not for the same thing) He does take a while to come into you room once you are taken back, but he does listen to your concerns and gets to the root of your problems. He is very honest on what the best course of treatment will be, but he is always kind! I highly recommend him as your surgeon, just prepare for wait times at the office. (Which i believe are worth it.)

This office is not run well. Went to get my arm marked for surgery, signed in, waited for 45 min…read more My husband went to ask and they had skipped me. They said receptionist didn't know what I was there for. (How is that. possible? - they sent me a letter with the appt time, I was there on time and signed in-if she didn't know why didn't she ask?) Went back couple weeks later to get my stitches out, was called back pretty quickly, nurse took stitches out, said dr would be right in, set there an hour , my husband opened door to ask if they forgot us, was rudely told dr would be in soon , he finally came in for 3 min, when I complained to the nurse I was told he was late getting there. It would have been nice if someone had explained that and given me option to reschedule. I was almost late for an appt in St Louis the first time and had to miss an appt the 2nd time.
