We walked around the car and took photos of all the scratches. The worker told us that the car has a license plate of Jalisco (not México City) and because of this, the police might pull us over and tell us we are not supposed to be driving. The guy said if this happens don't pay the cops and just call the car rental company. Well sure enough, on our drive to the pyramid of the sun, a group of 4 policemen pulled us over. We were going about 25miles with the flow of traffic, and a policeman said that we were speeding and that we need to pay $6,000MEX ($323 USD) if we want our CA license back. My Spanish speaking friend who was driving told the cop that he only has $100MEX. Then the police said all of us in the car have to all chip in to pay $1,000MEX ($53USD) otherwise they would take his license and we would have to pick it up at the police station. I'm pretty sure he pulled us over for the license plate not being México City. I felt like the rental company knew this was going to happen and set us up. Also when I got the bill, the worker was rude when I asked why the price came out to $399MEX instead of the $272MEX that I signed for. After we returned the car, they gave us a free shuttle ride to the airport.

They also offer full coverage with zero deductible in case of a collision which gives you peace of mind. If you are a frequent renter, they also give you free upgrades. I have also rented from National in different cities within Mexico and I can say that there is consistency in the quality of the cars that are available. Certainly if they could do better in terms of customer service and speed of getting customers in and out doing the same way that National in the US gets that done. But when compared to other rental car companies In Mexico I would say that National does stand out.
