She has a lot of complaints from students but they refuse to do anything about it. Regardless, I graduated from the class early April and I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY CERTIFICATION. You need the certificate to test with the state to become an official CNA. It's almost like they just want your money and don't care about the students at all. This college needs to do better.

I ended up with…read moretwo professors for Patho/Pharm because one was planning to leave, which led to confusion and conflicting information on critical topics. Only a few professors seemed genuinely invested in their students' success, and sadly, one of them is retiring. The program admits a large number of students, seemingly just to ensure that many of them fail. I understand the need to weed out students, but it feels like they do it with ill intentions. This place is sooo expensive. It not even including the textbooks which are $300 or more, and parking passes cost $250 per semester, which is outrageous considering the limited parking space. We have to share the parking structure with St. Louis students, and much of the parking is inconveniently located at the top of a hill. It feels like our tuition is being spent on maintaining a comfortable lifestyle for the Brothers, which might make sense for a Catholic school, but what about the students? Over the summer, they spent money fixing the road entrance, which seemed unnecessary--it was fine before, and now it just has better-looking lines. Kokua Ike is a great study space, but it's often overcrowded and noisy; I hope it gets the upgrade it deserves! On the plus side, there are frequent free events on campus, which is nice, so I make sure to take advantage of them since I'm essentially paying for them. However, for a private school with such high tuition, the Wi-Fi is consistently slow, and the quality of the ID photos is poor--they come out grainy, and the camera setup forces you to look up instead of straight ahead. There's also a lack of food options. Overall, it seems like Chaminade is more focused on making money than truly caring for its students. I do appreciate the campus cats, the pretty views, and the few dedicated faculty members who remain.

I had done two undergraduate thesis projects and returned to campus in approximately September 2015 to perform some geochemical analyses with other(s) from one of the projects as we were fleshing out our study for publishing in a peer reviewed journal. The East-West Center had university visitor rooming available, which is where I was set up. In terms of proximity to the building where I was performing analyses, there was no closer option - so it was ideal. The room was nice for just me, though I did have a little difficulty re-adjusting to the humidity, but that was just me not being the best at handling humidity. Workers were friendly and the room and building/grounds were clean and well maintained.

Judie: What kind of medication are you on? Judie: Are you taking any medication? Me: [silence] Judie: Are you taking any medication or anything else? ... It's not her business what personal medical conditions I might or might not have! What does this have to do with the interview! Judie's corrections for the entry quiz | "She managed to do it". Judie: "Manage" implies struggle. Me: I don't infer that from the context of this sentence. Where are you getting that meaning? Judie: [Provided a new, completely different sentence: "She managed to unlock the door".] Me: In that example, OK, but in the original, I don't see how struggle is implied. Can we look it up on... Judie, interrupting loudly: Anyone can put up anything on the internet. Look, you need to know who to listen to. I've been doing this a long time and I learned from books. -- I never say such things to a student! I don't "teach" like this. I always encourage students to look things up online. If they have questions in class, great! If there's no time, we can talk after class. If there's something they know that I don't, great -- let's learn! While Judie was interrupting, I was looking up on etymonline and learned that "Manage" comes from latin and has to do with horsemanship, from the mane. I told Judie, who was not amused. Judie concluded the interview with a long monologue that can be summarized as: I have to state this now: If you're going to disrupt class with questions, you will be asked to leave. If this becomes a problem, you won't complete the program. The preemptive threat to remove me, should I challenge her authority, was unacceptable. I asked to talk to Joel Weaver about this and he refused. Joel suggested I take the CELTA program in Thailand. Why wouldn't he recommend the other CELTA program in Hawaii, at ICC? I don't know. Maybe they badmouthed me behind my back and let Judie know how bad I was so that they would then sabotage the interview thereby guaranteeing that I would not apply. I believe Judie's threats to remove/expel me or anyone for asking questions. I believe she is sincere and would not care or even hesitate to remove anyone she dislikes (me). I'm very disappointed by the way that I was prevented from taking this course. If I am not qualified, then I understand. But if I am not liked, I should not be talked down in the interview. Judie may try to respond to this comment to say that I am not qualified but it is not true. I meet the CELTA qualifications.

Main difference aside from price ($400 for math and reading, compared to $1300-1500 monthly) is the amount time the kids need to put in. Much thanks to Gilie Matsumoto, her husband Shawn, and the entire Kumon Kaimuki staff (like Mr…read more Kyle and the two Mr. Shane's just to name a few), my son just completed the Kumon Math program! It took him 4 years and 4 months -- started from Level B (Addition & Subtration) in May 2011, and completed Level O (Calculus) yesterday (Sept 3, 2015)! As I reflect, I now realize that my son learned more than just math at Kumon. He also built confidence in himself and learned time management, goal setting, how to be a self-learner, and perservance! Yes, the Kumon work does get harder with each level. But, the Matsumoto's and their staff are so nurturing, encouraging and patient, that it just motivated my son to continue and finish. I remember my son's first goal was to build his math skills to enter Punahou School. He entered the school at 6th grade, scoring almost 690 out of 700 on the Math portion of the SSAT. His most recent goal was to complete the Kumon Math program by the start of 7th grade so he had enough free time to pursue other activities. He accomplished that goal yesterday! I also found that you, as a parent, have control on the stress level of Kumon. The Matsumotos were great at working on this with us. They increased and reduced packet sizes as needed so the workload didn't interfere with his school and sports activities, and that the Kumon homework itself wasn't too stressful, too challenging or too easy. Thank You Kumon Kaimuki! You turned my son's dreams into reality ... dreams we once thought were unimaginable!
