I give this place one star for getting us in quickly, but today's visit was worthless, disheartening and a waste of our money and time and caused additional pain for my 87yr old mother. After a week of increasing pain, my mother went to the ER on 8/23. From 8/23 to there has been only mediocre pain management. We appreciated getting into KC Pain Lee's Summit and an initial pain treatment procedure by this office (which failed) on 9/5. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no relief and we reported that on 9/5. There was no follow up from this office when we reported no relief. We had to call repeatedly to get another visit which turned out to be worthless. The treatment Dr Israel provided on 9/5 didn't work and his uncaring response was that everyone has to live with a certain level of pain and pain meds. He seemed unconcerned about my moms pain and quality of life. When asked if my mom was his, he recounted that his 96yr old mom and late 80a mother-in-law lived with him and living with pain and pain meds should be expected at their ages. When asked about X-rays or MRIs or other treatments he discounted them, but he did,in his way, caveated that those were not his areas of specialty. He could have been forthright in the initial treatment plan and say that if there isn't any relief that he could no longer help instead of getting another office payment from us. Medicine isn't an exact science, but doctors should also not waste our time or money. The overall rating is something to strongly consider. read more

I would give them a zero if I could. I have never encountered such a hateful receptionist in my entire life. I have the referral to go to a pain clinic but I will be going elsewhere because of my initial encounter with the staff. called KC Pain Management instead and they were very helpful and kind. The office staff make or break an office so they might want to consider addressing patient care with them. read more

The appointment was easy to make. The check-in was quick. The office was well staffed and everyone was pleasant and helpful. The clinic nurse explained the injection procedure and made me as comfortable as possible since my pain was at my low back with left leg sciatica. Dr Burfeind came to the suite prepared and discussed the procedure again before she started and explained the benefit I should receive in a couple of days. Any concerns I had were discussed and understood. Overall I would recommend this clinic. read more

I was referred by my primary care physician. I had an appointment setup, but as I was about to get on the highway. I realized that I had forgotten my wallet with my ID and insurance card and had to turn around and go back home to get it. As soon as I was on my way I called the office to let them know that I would be about 5 minutes late for my appointment but I was on my way. I had already been in excruciating pain to the point where I could barely walk without assistance and my pain level was so bad, it was difficult to even breathe. But I was told that I wouldn't be seen by the Doctor and that I'd have to reschedule my appointment because of their requirement for a new patient to arrive 30 minutes before my appointment time. I tried to explain why I was going to be 5 minutes late. I was just 5 minutes away and the fact that on the 1-10 pain scale, my pain level was near 17!!!!! I was still told that I wouldn't be seen by anyone because of my being 5 minutes late and that I would have to reschedule my appointment. I made it clear that my pain level was off the chart! Even after I told her that the bumps in the road was and still is still excruciating!!!! Yet I still couldn't be seen because of the 5 minute delay!!!! So I was turned away even though my condition had me in tears while I was in tears, and there was nobody who would see or treat me because I was less than a mile or 2 away from the office. But, there were no exceptions at all because of 5 minutes!!!! I couldn't understand why or how they could leave someone so close in my condition, and telling me that Dr would not help!!!! All because of a 5 minute delay is what caused my appointment to be canceled! I'm never going back to this place ever again just to be told in a loud and also rude tone that was just a disrespectful attitude towards the suffering of a patient! read more

They treat you like you are the scum of the earth for asking for help. I have trouble asking for help anyway. I have a legitimate disability that I deal with everyday. Being already in pain and then being treated like that makes me irate. I hope places like this all close down. read more

This is an excellent firm to see when you have uncontrollable pain. I highly recommend Dr Mark Chaplick and his PA, Anna Maizlin. They both care about their patients and listen to your concerns. I don't go anywhere else. I've been seeing Dr Chaplick and his PA at the Lees Summit branch of KC Pain Centers for many years. His Physician Assist is Ms. Anna Maizlin, and she's excellent. She obviously cares about her patients. She listens intently and strives to address your pain issues without judgment.; which is a very redeeming quality these days with all the stigma that follows opioid use... even when you take your meds as prescribed due to a legitimate chronic health issue. I've found that most people including various medical professionals and pharmacists instantly treat you differently the moment they find you're taking opioids for pain management. But Anna isn't that way and knows I have legitimate chronic health issues and permanent injuries involving my whole spine. Her compassion and kindness for her patients is always apparent. Actually, most all of the staff at KC Pain Centers are kind and professional; Especially Dr Chaplick, who I highly recommend. I've been seeing him for years now. He'll go out of his way to help you whenever a serious situation arises. And shows true compassion for what you're personally experiencing... as he's known extreme pain at one point in his own life, tho fleeting it was, he understands first hand what it's like to be in intense pain. From the nursing staff to the receptionist at the Lees Summit location, they're all pleasant to interact with. The receptionist there is truly memorable... always happy and smiling when you arrive. She greets you with professionalism and she's always upbeat and a joy to interact with. I can't say enough about the staff at KC Pain Centers... especially at the Lees Summit branch. read more

I had a sacral joint epidural injection today. This is my first visit and I was well treated by everyone. They immediately diagnosed me and looked over my pre-existing situation. A solution to my challenges was agreed on and I was immediately set up and received my epidural. Tonight I'm already feeling better than I've felt in months. I found the clinic and Dr. Jones competent, compassionate and proactive. I am so glad and appreciative for the help I found here. Definitely 5 out of 5 read more

It's my JOB to point out where improvements are needed for the consumer's pleasure, safety, or convenience, etc. If a company/business deserves a high rating, they'll get it from me! My wife was referred by KU for cancer pain after a surgery. Dr Israel and his staff is the most incompetant and rude staff ever. No compassion what so ever. They will not make an effort to refill scripts on a timely basis and when I challenged them over the incompetance they told me to leave the office or they would call the police. Horrible people..... I hope one day those people have to deal with pain and get a Dr and staff like this. They treat you like trash. read more

I started seeing Dr. Laughlin for pain management in early 2017. We had discussed installing a spine stimulator to better control my pain and help me get off the pain medications but I had not made a definitive decision. My wife and I spend 6 months a year in Texas and just before we left in December, I had an MRI done. The results showed spots on my liver. My liver doctor informed me that I would need to decrease my pain medicine sooner than anticipated and to do that I would need to push up the timing on the stimulator procedure. While in Texas, I found a pain management physician who would install a spine stimulator. I contacted Dr. Laughlin's office to have my records sent to the doctor in Texas, explaining that I was going to have the spine stimulator installed there. The spine stimulator was installed on March 12, 2018. My wife and I returned to Missouri at the end of April. In May 2018, I met with Dr. Laughlin's nurse practitioner, Anna, to get my pain medication refilled (which is who I regularly saw). At that appointment I asked about meeting with a Medtronic representative to adjust my spine stimulator. Anna set the appointment up for June 18, 2018, in Dr. Laughlin's office. On June 18, 2018, I arrived at Dr. Laughlin's office for my appointment. Dr. Laughlin walked into the room while the representative was making an adjustment and asked what was going on. I then explained that I had the stimulator installed while in Texas and that the representative was adjusting it. He got irate in front of me, my wife and the representative. He threw my file on the desk and told me I could just go back to Texas for my pain medicine. He then turned and stormed out of the room. He was very rude and hateful. He did not even let me explain the situation regarding the urgency of the stimulator or anything. He refused to see me and again repeated that I can go back to Texas for my medicine. He put the money that he lost from not doing the procedure ahead of his patient. He was very unprofessional and humiliating and put a dollar sign ahead of his patient's health. Because I had to have the procedure done elsewhere and not with him, he was angry and refused to renew my prescriptions. read more

I have used this clinic for over 12 years. Prior to that, Dr. Charapota was my pain doctor and he was amazing. Since his retirement, I've had 3 different doctors. They see you once and then have you see the PA Anna, who is amazing. This weekend, they failed to call in my pain medication refill on Friday, so that I would be able to get it on Saturday. I have an email from the office telling me to call the doctor on-call if I don't get it by Saturday morning. So...he didn't call it in. I called the on-call doctor twice last night before he responded. At 7PM he said he was sending it over for me so I could get it this morning. However, it's 11:00AM on Saturday, no refill has been called in and the answering service (who are so hateful) refuse to take my information, saying they can't. I explained that I was told to do this, but they are not cooperative in any way. I know people think that those who take opioids for pain are just "junkies", but I'd love to give them my pain for one day and let them see what a "day in the life of..." really is. I will be in their office at 9:00AM on Monday morning to get this resolved. I hate to change places after this many years, but not sure that I may have any choice in the matter. When I've been told that no more surgery can be done (already had 2 back surgeries) and I have to learn to "live with it", I expect these doctors to do exactly what they are paid to do. The doctor on call this weekend has been very rude and condescending to me and I will definitely be taking it up with their office manager on Monday and whoever else will listen. No excuse in the world to treat people like this. I see lots of negative feedback from this office and now I'm not surprised. read more

Rudest staff and nurses I have ever met. EVER! The worst part is that people coming into this office are in pain and then they are treated so hatefully. The docs seem nice but I have to wonder what the hell is wrong that the staff is so miserable that they make everyone that comes In miserable as well. Hateful, rude, unprofessional. Reading some older reviews it seems it has been this way for a long time. Part of the problem may be the way they are pushed to get people in and out. The more patients, the more money the docs make. There are a number of rules/requirements in order to participate in the pain management program - which I follow to the "T". Everyone is pleasant and knowledgeable. When you NEED something, really NEED something, it is impossible to speak with a nurse or doctor. They fail to return calls and respond to patient needs outside the office. I feel as though I do my part by showing up for every appointment, passing their drug tests, follow instructions and pay my excruciatingly expensive bill in full at time of service that they should do theirs - like make sure your medicine gets to the pharmacy and then return your phone call when you have a need. read more

Was referred to this facility for a pain injection for my hip. No problem with the dr however, office personnel and nurses leave much to be desired. Was told my out of pocket cost would be $200. They sent me a bill for an additional $300! They deal with insurance all the time so I was very surprised to get this bill. That's not the best part though; they gave me a prescription for physical therapy which I just put in my purse. When I looked at it the prescription had the name of a totally different person! Not only did I have their name, address and phone number, I also had their date of birth employment info and when their spots were scheduled. Don't waste your time here. Btw the injection did absolutely nothing to ease my pain. read more

The scheduling people are so rude when you call to make an appointment or schedule one the woman " Debbie" don't ever get her she is about the rudest person there. i have used them for years now, but now that they changed from doing it in there office you have to go to a surgery center, now you have to pay the surgery center up front before you get treated, then you get a bill from the Dr. and the cost of the injection, what ticks me off is that now Dr. Curt Johnson did a different procedure then he has in the past which worked great, and never told me he was doing something different, which then i get a bill from surgery center saying i owe another $260.00 to them, asked what that was for and they told me he did something different then he has in the past, i find that to be highly unethical to do something totally different without my knowledge, which means his bill to insurance and what i have to pay will be much higher, i will never go back to them again. read more

A good friend referred my wife to Dr. Edwards a number of years ago. Because of her excellent results I went to him for my sciatica. My spouse was crippled by a local surgeon five years and seven surgeries ago. (The last six surgeries were to repair the damage done by the first. They did not.) She since has had to rely on RX pain meds to live anything resembling a normal life. Upon our first visit to the aptly named KC Pain Center, the learned Dr. Steven G. Charapata spent at least five, perhaps even ten minutes with us, sometimes listening to our account but mostly scanning test results and pausing briefly sometimes to interrupt or contradict us. He performed no physical examination. He dismissed any questions about pain mechanisms or pain control, prescribed some opioids, then lectured us about their dangers. Over the ensuing twelve months or so, those five or ten minutes remained the only time that this dedicated medical professional spent with us, other than to spare another five minutes or so near the end of our association. During that final meeting, this gentle and caring devotee of Hypocrisy--excuse me, I meant Hippocrates--let it be known that we simple country folk could not possibly comprehend the constraints under which he practiced. (And by "practiced," I assume he meant "wrote prescriptions," since that was the only thing he ever did for us.) Alas, this eminent caregiver's physical and psychological insight and concern for my spouse's welfare were simply too overwhelming for us to continue our association. Some might refer to his behavior as arrogance, condescension, or placidly cynicism, but I remain convinced that this is a man who simply cares too much: the emotional strain of checking a box, scrawling his signature, and spending a few minutes listening to a patient, rather than leaping to a pat conclusion and treating us like junkies and con artists, must simply have been a load too onerous for his delicate soul. Therefore, we chose to discontinue our relationship with the kindly Dr. Charapata, in hopes that he will no longer be burdened with the great weight of those ten-to-twenty minutes per year that he spent doing nothing for us. Be well, eminent physician, and may the quality and amount of care you bestowed upon us be returned to you tenfold. read more
