What an awesome glacier experience! We started the day off early, at 7 AM. We took a 2 hour 30 minute water taxi to a beach near Aialik glacier. The ride had beautiful scenery, while we saw puffins, sea otters, and different kinds of seals. We even saw a whale from afar. So I'd been planning this same Alaska trip, no joke, from late 2019 when we booked an Alaska cruise for 2020, through to a couple months ago, when we finally went on that cruise. So I'd booked a morning post-cruise half-day kayak trip with them since early 2020 - until like 2 weeks before our cruise, we asked semi-last minute if we could do the afternoon tour instead, there was absolutely no issue doing that, which was great! Even sillier on our part, and more impressively great customer service on theirs, the morning we finally made it to Seward after a moderately sleepless due to the midnight sun, but otherwise gorgeous week-long trip up the Alaska coast, we finally made it to Seward, then *actually* last minute, like 2 hours before the afternoon tour was leaving, I was reading the afternoon tours were more likely to be windier, called and asked if we could do the evening one instead, they said sure again. In both cases, immediately received a new confirmation email right after the call, no additional charge or anything. Anyway, when the evening finally did approach, at 5:45, the two of us and exactly 3 other people (all their kayaks are doubles - the person by himself kayaked with the guide) got into a van for a pretty short trip to the beach, where we all learned how to put on our gear and get into the kayak, and our guide physically pulled our kayaks into the water, which looked like hard work! It was gorgeous on the water, we saw literally hundreds of birds diving for food, or sometimes just chilling on the water (I don't blame them, it's gorgeous!). We also saw one bald eagle, though by that point we'd seen tons of bald eagles. (Also, notably, which *shouldn't* be nearly as rare as it is: we could actually hear our guide most of the time when she was talking while we were on the water, and she was pretty good about waiting for us. Granted, that is somewhat easier when there's only 2 kayaks plus the guide's!) Once we were on the water, the majority of the trip to our "destination" was pretty slow and scenic, other than one segment midway (on the way in, and the same segment in reverse leaving) that was a bit more work just getting past one large sandbar (good having a guide for that!) The kayaks we were in felt incredibly stable, too, even in a couple cases where we got decent-sized waves (due to speedboats speeding by, not any *natural* phenomenon). That said, we were glad we went with the evening trip - the wind was definitely stronger in Seward earlier in the day, and the wind for most of our trip was pretty light. Would've been less fun against the wind - and when we got back at 10 PM, it was still light, after all. Coming from California, the midnight sun was driving us crazy - might as well at least take advantage of it! I was also nervous about putting my phone and wallet in their provided dry-bag, but it was perfectly safe the whole trip. Midway in, we were able to stop midway in, the instructor pulled our boats *out* of the water and onto the beach, where we were able to take a very short (maybe half a mile round trip) hike to one extremely photographable bridge over a small stream. Then yes, before we got back on the kayak to go back home, we got an included snack stop, of a locally made, just *astoundingly* good granola bar (way better than the commercial stuff), and a sadly very commercial (instant) cup of still entirely welcomed hot chocolate. When I was doing research, we did find some kayaking day tours from Seward that were a bit cheaper than theirs - but I went with this one because they seemed to be the best. Obviously I can't speak to a comparison, we were only in Seward a couple nights, and only went kayaking once - but I wouldn't be surprised. It was a great evening with a great guide (and, did I mention, extremely good granola bars?) p.s. One and only minor complaint - I'm glad we brought our own water bottles! Right near the end, I'd finished the water I'd brought, and drank some of the water *they* brought as a backup - it tasted like literally drinking a plastic bottle. Most likely technically potable, but I'm glad I didn't have to drink it. Literally my only tiny complaint, and easily solveable! (i.e. by bringing your own water.) read more

Kass was a great guide! It was a sunny day which made it breezy and slightly rough, but fun. If you want to see wildlife you want the overcast days and preferably morning or evening. I went at 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. Bring rain pains if you don't want to get wet (optional) and rain jacket with layers depending on the weather. They do provide a water bag to store extra layers which you can change at the break out by the tonsina point. Pretty bridge and trail to hike. They provide hot chocolate, tea and some yummy granola bars made locally. read more

Had a fantastic time on the 4 hour Resurrection Bay kayak tour! Our guide Laban was awesome - super fun and personable and shared a lot of interesting facts about the bay and sea life. Time spent actually kayaking was about 2 hours, which was a perfect amount of time for a newbie kayaker like me. We stopped at a beach where we had hot chocolate/tea and a delicious homemade granola bar from the wonderful bakery at Resurrect Art before heading back to shore. Wow! Do the Aialik Glacier trip. Yes I know it's a lot, do it. This was the best excursion I did in Alaska. It includes a 2.5 hour boat trip to the bay you'll kayak in so you can spend your $$ here and skip an additional cruise! The boat trip specifically searches for wildlife and gets closer! We saw puffins, two humpbacks, sea lions, bald eagle, sea otters and beautiful scenery! I saw more on this trip than an actual wildlife lunch cruise. The coffee/tea and muffins added a nice touch. You will have a personal guide--this is what really impressed me about this excursion! It was just me, my husband and my mother, 3 people to a guide! Our guide was Joe and he absolutely made this a memorable experience. He checked in on us the whole time, interested if we were ok. He constantly came by and told us what we were looking at without being prompted. Joe would whip out a map several times throughout the boat trip to show us where we were going, where we were in relation to that, and included many fascinating tidbits along the way. I felt like our guide Joe was a living google search bringing everything to life. The kayak adventure was great! Not too difficult for any of us. Everything was explained clearly and in a timely manner--I felt fully prepared to be out there! We had an amazing day kayaking to the glacier, watching the calving, learning about geologic and ecological history of the region, and had lunch on the water! (Snacks will be provided throughout the day--it's pretty awesome!) No complaints whatsoever, even the price! For what we paid for other excursions--this is completely worth it! My friend on her wedding/honeymoon trip got stuck in Barrow due to plane issues and KAW refused to give ANY cent of a refund. She splurged $1k on her dream kayaking trip and is bleeding money being stuck in Barrow... and this company coldly and bluntly rejected her. She is crushed and has no energy to fight them, but I find it unbelievable that this company would be so insensitive and inhumane. I did the Aialik Kayak Tour with my father a couple of Sundays ago. We arrived at the office at right around the checkin time and the process to check in went pretty smoothly for us. We had all of the appropriate waterproof gear and i had on four layers up top for the boat ride including a base layer, thermal layer and waterproof running jacket. However, the team at Kayak Adventures Worldwide didn't think that was enough because the layers looked thin (specialty running clothes will of course be thin and warm) and forced a fleece upon me. This happened even though I would be ok since my dad and I had been out on halibut boats and other fishing boats all week. To make matters even worse, our guide insisted I put it on before we even rode over to the boat. So you can imagine how happy I was to be sitting inside a van sweating in 5 layers of clothes. Personally I don't think that I needed it and I was more than happy to rip it off whenever we landed to grab the kayaks and I wouldn't put it back on the rest of the trip. As you can tell by my little rant there, this part of the trip bothered me. However, I understand why they did this as I was definitely underdressed on our first halibut trip of the vacation. In any case, on to better things. Our guide for the trip was named Tasha and she met everyone outside of the shop, made sure we had the right equipment and got us loaded in the van. After a short ride to the harbor, we boarded our water taxi and started off on the 2+ hour trip through resurrection bay and to the fjord. During the ride our guides were great and made an effort to talk to each and every guest which I thought was awesome. On the way over we saw quite a bit of wildlife (whales) as well as some beautiful scenery and stopped when necessary. Once we landed everyone helped to get the kayaks ready and Tasha taught us about ocean kayaks. In addition to learning about how to use the skirt (and get out if necessary), I also learned how to use the pedals to steer with the rudder. Soon enough we were out on the water and paddling the 3 miles to the Aialik Glacier. It was interesting for me to see and hear how Tasha communicated to all of the Tour boats in the fjord so that they not only saw us but also didn't flip us with a wake. As for the Glacier itself, man was it impressive. Its size is still crazy to me as at a half a mile out from it, it was absolutely massive. We were able to sit facing it while we at our lunch in the kayaks. The coolest part of our trip may have been whenever a good size chunk of ice which I assume had previously calved from the Glacier decided to roll over and break in half fairly close to us. All too soon (time wise, certainly not comfort wise as the kayaks were a bit rough for me) we turned around and headed back to the beach to catch the water taxi back. As we did on the way out we stopped to see some more wildlife (whales and sea lions). The bottom line for me is that I would recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys kayaking and glaciers. Our tour guide Tasha was great and I loved stopping the see the wildlife and beautiful scenery. However it's the kayaking and Glacier which are the showstoppers and so rightfully the main event of this tour. read more

Although this was our most expensive excursion on our trip to Alaska, we all agree that it was totally worth the money and most likely our favorite. The long boat ride and from Aialik bay was an amazing opportunity to see puffins, jellyfish, sea lions, and bald eagles, not to mention the stunning mountains, glaciers, and icefields surrounding us. Claire was was an excellent guide, always checking in to make sure everyone was having a great time, and answering any and all questions we had. I had a fantastic time kayaking to Aialik Glacier with Kayak Adventures Worldwide. The guide, Kim, was talkative, informative, and friendly. Not to mention strong and robust (I totally needed the pogies for my cold hands, but she didn't!). A lot of the information I already knew (just from the info boards at Exit Glacier the day before), but did learn some new cool things, like birds who swim better than fly, and why Aialik is a stable glacier. The paddling was really fun, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Well, maybe not...someone in our group from DC was really nice and he'd done the trip the year before. Maybe I'll get to go back on a sunny day. But seriously, gray weather aside, it doesn't even factor into what an amazing experience or scenery you're enjoying. I would be weary of high waves, and HEAVY raining. When I say heavy, I mean pissing down rain, not intermittant drops or drizzling. But, put your trust into Wendy and Dave, they'll never put you out into dangerous waters. Just take dramamine if you're not sure about your stomach, wear synthetic layers (it was the 4th of July and I'm so glad I had my regular padded rain jacket), sunglasses and a hat for sure. Side note: yes, for me, this was definitely an expensive trip. But it was also the highlight of my Alaskan vacation. It was also to a fairly remote area of the Fjords National Park that people don't usually go to, unless they take a boat tour. And, FYI, one of those tour boats did try to view Aialik, but they had to stay outside in the bay, several hundred yards away....hardly a viewing for them, while we got up close and personal with it. You really can't put a price on an experience like this....do it once, and you'll be glad you did more than just walk in downtown Seward with a stop off at Exit Glacier. read more

Wife and I decided we wanted to go kayaking, she picked Kayak Adventures Worldwide out of Seward, AK. Our guide was Sol, a local to Seward. He was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and enviornment. A little over halfway through our short trip we took a break and saw salmon spawing, the local rain forest and bald eagles. It was impressive how clean the area was and Sol's love of the area. This company also donates a few dollars of the trip you paid to one of three charities, your choice in the end. If your an avid kayaker this may be too slow of a pace for you, unless you want to just enjoy the outdoors and see things from a different perspective. Thanks Sol for the great time. My husband and I traveled to Alaska in July and we booked the full day sea kayaking adventure with Kayak Adventures worldwide. It was expensive, but so worth it. We started in the morning around 7am and took the water taxi out. On our way we stopped multiple times. We saw bald eagles, puffins, sea otters, sea lions, seals and hump back whales on our way in and out. The kayaking itself was so much fun, and was so beautiful especially when we got closer to the glacier. Our guide, Sid was knowledgeable and passionate about what he did. Everything was so well planned and organized, food and snacks were provided at the appropriate times. While on the kayak, I have never felt safer, it was a stable kayak with multiple safety gear provided. Overall Highly recommend this tour for those who are up for a little bit of adventure and wish to see a glacier in all it's glory! read more

Just returned from a stellar "sunset" kayak trip with KAW. I put "sunset" in quotes because as we all know, the sun barely sets in Alaska in the summer. We unfortunately had gray weather, but the scenery was beautiful nonetheless. The staff was really easy to work with and accommodating. Our guide, Fran, was excellent. Despite this being her first year with the company, she had answers to all of our kayak questions, as well as our questions about Seward. She told us lots of stories as we paddled around and I have been spewing facts about wildlife to my friends ever since. My only "complaint" (and this isn't a complaint really) is that we were followed by a group of about 8 sea lions on our way back. Talk about getting up close and personal with those animals- they were barely five feet away and it was a little too close for comfort. This, of course, is not a critique of KAW or Fran- it was simply an unexpected rush of adrenaline and a close encounter with Alaskan wildlife! I would highly recommend using KAW for your adventure travels in Seward. Pair this with a fishing trip, and you'll truly experience the beauty of AK. 1/2 day trip was about $70- and you can rent rain coats and pants and "pogies" (things that keep your hands warm) for $5 each, if you don't already have them. I suggest also bringing a hat. read more

Its important not to confuse a great time delived by the sheer beauty of the area with a great time delivered by an outfitter. Its also important not to blame an outfitter for problems outside their control. Luckily, both Kenai Fjords NP and Kayak Adventures Worldwide both deliver. KAW is professional and as accomodating as you can ask for. The owners Dave and Wendy are very knowledgible and safety oriented and vet their guides to insure you have a good and safe adventure. The area is absolutely stunning. No other place I've paddled can you get so close to caving glaciers and see so much wildlife. That said you need to be realistic about the weather, the beautiful but hostile environment, and your own abilities. The glossy brochure photos of smiling paddlers in tee shirts in front of sunlit glaciers on glassy water happens all of about 3 days per year. The reality of paddling in/around Resurection and Aialik bays are rain, rain and more rain. Plus the often rough seas and high winds. And lest you forget your're in Alaska, frigid water. If you're in the area I highly reccomend you try to get on the water and explore Kanai Fjords. And I recommend KAW to guide you for a safe, fun and educational time. read more

We spent three days in Seward this past June and our trip out to Aialik Bay with KAW was the highlight of our time there. Our tour guides Fran and Buddy (and everyone else at the office) were awesome - friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and fun. During the 2-hour boat ride out to the beach where we picked up our kayaks, we saw sea otters, humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, puffins, seals, sea lions and bald eagles - it was amazing! Even the boat captains were great - they stopped plenty of times to give people a chance to check out the wildlife. I would highly recommend KAW for sea kayaking in Seward. It's not the cheapest thing to do in the area, but it's worth every penny for the experience you get. If we ever make it back to Seward we'll definitely sign up for another adventure! It was our first kayaking experience and it was amazing! Our guide was "Buddy" and he was awesome. We are both totally out of shape and not really into sports. At first, I got scared and almost wanted to go back, but our guide Buddy patiently helped us through. It was kind of windy day and we were going against the current so it was little rough but when we got to the shore it felt really good. We also got to see the salmon going up the river that was connected to the ocean. Buddy also knew different type of salmon and was very informative about Seward. View was also amazing. I cannot say enough good things about Kayak Adventures Worldwide and our experience with them. My husband and I went to Alaska last summer for two weeks. A trip with this company was our "splurge" and it was worth EVERY penny. We really wanted to explore some of Kenai Fjords National Park and trust me when I say the only way to truly do this is on the water. We chose the full day Aialik Glacier Kayaking Tour and it was INCREDIBLE. The day started with us meeting up at their little office location, and then taking a quick van ride over to grab the boat. There were a couple different groups on the boat and that ALONE was worth the price of admission. It was absolutely gorgeous and I was glued to the rail the whole time. Our captain stopped whenever he saw wildlife and slowed down occasionally so we could get a good look at things. We then got to an island where the kayaks were stashed and off we went! The groups are VERY small - there were just four of us to one guide. I was pleasantly surprised at how small they are - this company really emphasizes safety and their guides absolutely know what they are doing. We had Allison who was the sweetest, most attentive guide ever. She was funny and kind and had SO much knowledge about the area. When we were in our kayaks, she took pictures of us and the other couple - I thought that was SO nice, she volunteered without us even having to ask and then sent us the pictures on our phones. We literally ate our lunches (that come with your tour!) floating in the kayaks and gazing at the majestic glacier. I cannot even put into words what it was like seeing the Aialik Glacier. It was calving while we were there and I'll never forget the sound of that white thunder as the chunks of ice fell into the water, it gives me chills just to remember it. On the boat ride back, we ran into a whole pod of orca whales. Our captain just had a sixth sense for where they were going to be and let us squeal at these beautiful whales for what had to be a half hour. Absolutely incredible. Do this tour. We lucked out and booked it on the most beautiful blue-sky day, with the calmest water ever, but it would've been amazing no matter what the weather. I will never forget this experience! It was a little windy paddling across the bay but we were a solid crew and made it over to Waterfall Beach pretty handily. Our guide was very informative of the local fauna. My kayak was in the front a bit and as we approached the beach I saw a porpoise briefly :) I think it was a harbor porpoise because it was solid black. Beautiful and incredible sights combined with friendly guides made this kayak trip amazing. Would do it again. read more

We went on a full-day kayak trip on Resurrection Bay in Seward with Johnny from KAW in late July. Our Royal Caribbean cruise ended here, and we were looking for something fun and athletic to do until we caught the 6pm Alaskan Rail Road train to Anchorage that evening to catch our flight home. KAW was very quick to respond to all our booking questions and made the reservation easy. KAW offices are a quick $5 taxi ride from the cruse ship dock, and we walked to the train station at the end of the day. KAW will let you store your luggage there is you need, and there are bathroom/shower/changing facilities in the office, plus dry bags for what you take with you on the kayak. Everything was very well organized, friendly staff, and all the equipment was in good shape. We lucked out and had beautiful weather, mild temperatures and no rain. We saw, in no particular order: glaciers spilling into the bay, salmon jumping out of the water, a mother and baby whale that swam under our kayaks (!), a bald eagle fly off from the beach with a salmon in its talons, a baby eagle, and a stream full of spawning salmon. I don't think a more quintessential Alaska day could have been better choreographed. Johnny entertained us with his extensive knowledge of the history, plants and animals of the region during the whole day, plus had great tips on coaching novice kayakers. We were a little apprehensive about surviving a whole day of kayaking, but it turned out to be the perfect amount, with a nice steep hike to Fort McGilvey in the middle of the day for lunch. The hike through the rainforest and the views from the for of the bay were breathtaking, with fog rolling in and out to reveal a spectacular view. I highly recommend KAW and the full-day kayak in Resurrection Bay! read more

We took a 3 hour water taxi near Aialik Glacier and then took the kayaks to approximately 0.5 miles away from the glacier. Don't worry if this sounds far, it's very close! The day ended with another 3 hour water taxi ride back to shore where we saw whales, seals, eagles, puffins and more! We had a perfect day which made everything great and well worth the price tag. I would, however, note that your experience will depend on the weather. If the day is rough it probably won't be as enjoyable. That being said, the guides are really cool and good at what they do! I would definitely recommend this as a great way to explore the fjords, see a glacier, see wildlife, and have fun! read more

I cannot recommend these guys and gals enough. My wife and I went on the all day Aialik Glacier kayak tour, and our guide Sol was amazing. The water taxi ride was worth it in itself! Got to see all sorts of wildlife on the ride out to the glacier, and the taxi driver was awesome about slowing down and letting the patrons get a good view of the wildlife. Sol was super knowledgeable about the wildlife, glaciers, and the ecosystem in general. Amazing kayak tour. Small personal and fun. We killed time before our train ride to Anchorage and did a half day tour in was amazing. The fog made it all the better. Picked blueberries on the island and the guide was so eco oriented he picked up any stay trash he found. A highlight of the trip. read more

Can't say enough good things about the group of folks at this company. Chill, smart, funny, conscientious (think globally, act locally). Guests get a chance to vote with a wood coin for the environmental cause that speaks to you. The guides are really good at what the do, know a lot about the area, and so, so courteous. They are prepared, trained and very organized. Small group size with lots of personal attention. Great if you're an expert paddler, or it's you're first time. We signed up for their half-day resurrection bay trip in late August. They close in Labor Day. Our guide Ryan was great. He gave us a Kayak 101 lesson and was very thoughtful. It's only like a 3 hour trip and he prepared us hot drinks and snacks. We arrived at their office then they drove us to the loading beach in their van. The trip was really really short though. We saw a little sea otter and some giant jelly fish. But that's it. It fit into our schedule and good for kayak beginners to go to the wilderness. read more

We just did a 3-day Mothership trip on the Starr with Captain Mike and it was awesome! The trip is very well orchestrated, meaning you will be at the prime viewing locations before any of the day-cruise ship passengers arrive. You'll have the glacier and the seals to yourself. The accommodations are spartan but sufficient, and as Captain Mike says the toilet is interactive. Think of this as "glamping" on the sea. It's really wonderful and an experience not to be missed! The food was great but often dinner came late at night, so bring good snacks and cocktails. This really was a tremendous experience. If you are thinking about kayaking on the Fjords go with KAW!!!! read more

We took a family vacation to the area and Kayak Adventures Worldwide was one of our planned adventure outings for our Alaska summer vacation. We took the advice and made our reservations early for a custom family day trip for a family of 6, 4 adults and 2 children. I was watching the weather the week before our vacation began and noticed that the weather was going to be cold, rainy and very windy the entire week of our visit. I called to try to cancel our trip 6 days ahead of our planned kayaking day. I was told no refunds within a week of the scheduled tour. Since we couldn't cancel, we showed up on our scheduled day and, sure enough, the weather was terrible. Extremely windy, cold and fairly heavy and steady rain. I couldn't believe what we were about to do, nobody else dared venture out on a day like this in small kayaks. My youngest daughter (6 at the time) was so cold and terrified of the high waves, she was crying uncontrollably like we just lost our family dog. I again pleaded to the tour guide for our money back, this wasn't going to be possible for us to do, it was too dangerous for my daughter and she was scared to death of getting out in the cold rain with the high winds and waves. They refused to listen to our concerns and stated that they are the ones to make the decision on whether or not the weather was safe. I will let you make the decision for yourself, but for me, I will never go back and could never recommend a place like this to anyone. They are completely unprofessional. Please, find a reputable company to do business with, steer clear of Kayak Adventures Worldwide! We lost roughly $700 that day to this company because they refused to refund our money and were trying to persuade us into what was clearly an unsafe situation. Had the weather between good or at least better it may have been a decent trip, but it was horrendous that day which is what made it unsafe for anyone except perhaps the most experienced of kayakers. read more

My half day kayaking trip was the highlight of my awesome vacation in Alaska. I chose kayak adventures because I wanted to kayak with my 8yo stepdaughter who is an experienced kayaker. We went out for a 4 hour trip with Chelsea who was a fantastic guide--great with my stepdaughter, super knowledgeable and really fun. The trip was amazing and I'm already wishing I could start planning another trip with Chelsea. Cannot recommend this any more highly. read more

Emily was our guide on an all-day Caines Head adventure. We met up at 8am and were issued our equipment. Took a cab to the launch point and were shown how to operate the equipment and be safe in the water. It was a leisurely 1.5 hour paddle out to Caines Head, where we witnessed Bald Eagles, a Humpback whale, a seal, and a sea otter in their natural habit. Once we landed on the beachhead, we did the 1.5 mile walk through the Fort McGilvey ruins and had a nice picnic overlooking Resurrection Bay. All in all, we had a great time. This a great way to witness Alaskan nature via a timeless transportation method with a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. read more

Our kayaking trip to Aialik Glacier with Kayak Adventures Worldwide was probably the single biggest highlight of an Alaska trip that was filled with highlights (getting up close & personal with dozens of brown bears in Katmai; seeing moose, caribou, grizzlies and the beautiful Alaska range in Denali; hiking the Harding Icefield Trail; and cruising to Hubbard Glacier & Glacier Bay). It helped that we lucked out with absolutely perfect weather - the water taxi ride was smooth and our kayaking was effortless, thanks to glassy water & mild temperatures. My husband and I agreed that had we only gotten to do the water taxi ride to the kayaking drop-off point, the trip would probably still have been worth it - the ride was filled with wildlife (humpback whales, jellyfish, porpoises, sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals, puffins) at close range, and the water taxi operators were knowledgeable and did their best to maximize wildlife sightings. And even without wildlife, the coast of the Kenai peninsula is gorgeous & seeing it from a boat is a must-do - in particular, Spire Cove is absolutely spectacular. As good as the water taxi ride was, our kayaking trip far surpassed it. The scenery from the launch point is gorgeous and it only gets more spectacular as you approach the beautiful glacier and paddle past increasingly large chunks of blue glacial ice. We were in a small group (just us, our guide and one other twosome) and because we weren't required to all paddle right alongside each other, it really felt like we were alone in this beautiful, serene glacial bay. It was truly the most at peace I've felt in years. After we got as close to the glacier as we were going to get, we linked up our kayaks and enjoyed lunch while taking in the beautiful glacier and seeing it calve over and over again. At one point, a seal popped his head up just a foot or two from our kayak. After getting our fill of the glacier views, we kayaked back to the launch point and were promptly picked up by the water taxi for the ride home, which was a bit shorter and more direct than the ride over. We were really impressed with our guide Daniel. He was really nice and friendly and forthcoming with interesting info but also knew when to let us enjoy the views in silence. About the only possible downside to KAW I can see is that they may not let you get quite as close to the glacier as other companies. We got within 1/2 mile, plenty close to see calving and feel the freezing air coming off the glacier, but we did see one other kayaking group get quite a bit closer. Personally, we didn't really care that much about the distance to the glacier because we had plenty of time up close at Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay on our cruise (and I knew I wasn't going to get great calving photos with a waterproof point and shoot camera no matter how close we got). But I can see how some people would be disappointed to see others getting closer. However, it may have been that the people who got closer were experts who were kayaking on their own and not with a tour company. Aialik Glacier kayaking is definitely super expensive for a day trip (I think because of the water taxi ride) but Kayak Adventures Worldwide's price is competitive with other outfitters and I can promise you it's worth every penny spent. This really was a huge highlight of our trip, and we've already decided that any future Alaska trip will include a multi-day kayaking adventure with KAW.
