Spoke to manager also but same response although he was much more polite. no wonder amazon and other USA vendors are taking over the world. Whatever we bought was not worth the money - from their "fresh truffle" (from China - yuk!) to mussels (rotten) and christmas candles (broken, could only be seen after unwrapping at home). Tried to give a second chances - asked the product specialist, who said they only carry cheap china truffle - and well - that's what you get - he said. He even recommended Otto-Gourmet.com - the only nice experience we had while shopping. As you know, we have a brutal lockdown in Germany where everyone recommends to stay home. Still, I have never seen so many families with small kids outside Toys R us. I wowed to never return.

You have to be very careful of sell by dates - even the long life milk might be out of date by tomorrow and the same applies to the fresh fruit and veg, you have to check everything very carefully, the other week I had to tell them that half the lemons were going green and fuzzy, one was even sporting a nifty beard (this might just be specific to the Darmstadt branch). The prices really aren't that good, you can usually buy it at the same price or cheaper elsewhere (especially electrical goods). And the cafe there is terrible. One of the worst I've ever been in. I've been to wholesale places in the UK and Metro doesn't live up to the name.

Those looking for American products will love Metro - this is the only one so far where we've found Louisiana Hot Sauce. There is no fee, so it's pretty nice. You can buy food items in bulk, home items, things for the garden, wine, home appliances, office supplies, and a variety of fish, meat, produce, and frozen items. There were two ladies at the information desk. I asked politely (in German) if anyone spoke English, luckily one was able to assist me. They took my letter, inputted my name in the computer, asked me to fill out some paperwork, took my picture and gave me a membership card. The store is huge. I spent a good 40 minutes walking around during my first visit. I didn't buy anything except a big pack of Brita filters. It was 30 euros for a box of 8! Definitely cheaper buying in bulk rather than at REWE or Globus.
