Their new location provides a ton of free street and neighborhood parking. If you don't have a car, they're right next to a bus stop on Armitage, so convenience is still there. This practice really cares about their clients on all levels (ex. mental, financial, emotional, and etc), so don't be afraid to try this practice. Honestly, I was extremely resistant - I didn't want to see a therapist, I didn't want to talk through issues, and I really didn't think CBT would help at all with my sleeping problems. I finally gave in, agreeing to "time box" the sessions to 10 weeks, just to give it a shot and see if it would help. After my first session with Amy, my wife and I both noticed improvements in my ability to fall asleep, my quality of sleep, and my overall mood and energy because of my sleep, within just a couple of days. Fast forward several months later, including multiple weeks of seeing Amy more than once a week. The 10 week "time box" is obviously well past, and I've begun to allow Amy and her expertise into more of my life and to help me deal with even more issues in my life, from being a better husband, father, employee, and just a better person in general. To be completely honest, I really wanted to not like seeing a therapist, and frankly, not like Amy. But now, I can't imagine my life without seeing Amy and having her help me through things, give me my homework, and help me to learn that I can work through mental hurdles with various strategies she's taught me. Amy has always been available - she's very prompt to return phone calls and even text messages when I have needed her, has been very flexible to work around my schedule, and genuinely cares about me and my family. If you're looking for a great therapist and someone who will care about you, get to know you, and take time for you, I highly recommend Amy. I've been seeing Crystal Clair for nearly 18 months now, and it took me this long to work up the courage to write a review for her life-changing service. Why? Don't be coy, you know why. The stigma of therapy is alive and well. But I've got my grown-up pants on and will explain why it's totally the normal thing to do. 1. Work sucks 2. You wish work sucked because then you'd be employed 3. You're in a relationship 4. You're not in a relationship 5. You come from a broken home 6. You come from a non-broken home 7. You have mommy/daddy issues 8. You have esteem issues 9. Good life choices have not always been your thing 10. You have no idea what you're doing with your life 11. Your friends give bad advice 12. You need to be reminded that some Sundays spent with Netflix and Couch are okay. I said SOME Sundays... 13. You eat for reasons other than nutrition or an occasional craving 14. Your in-laws are nuts, and guess who's hosting Christmas? 15. It's the holidays, and you're stressed to the max 16. A pet died 17. A family member died 18. You blew that interview/test/try-out, etc 19. You're feeling scatter-brained and disorganized 20. You're human There are a LOT of other really good reasons to see a therapist, but this is a good starter sample. If you can't identify with any of these points, your pants are on fire because you're lyyyyyyinggggg. To those afraid of visiting a therapist's office, as I was, CFC's office is nothing like what you'd imagine. It's warm, inviting, there's candy, and the other patients I've seen look just like you and me. Lincoln Park trixies, athletes, moms, nannas, bros, teens, hipsters, and the like. One visit to CFC and you will realize a therapy sesh is about as normal as a yoga class. There are a lot counselors of varying ranges and talents at CFC, but I have seen Crystal exclusively. Crystal is basically the friend I never knew I needed. She listens, she coaches me through my negative work situations, she gives good advice when I need it and lets me talk through a situation when she knows I can figure things out on my own. She's also really open and super non-judgey. And the best part for me, I'm able to relate to her. That seems to be a key in my success with therapy. TL;DR? Therapy is totes normal and everyone does it, they just don't talk about it. CFC is the perfect place to take that first step towards a healthier you.

I've been thinking a lot about this situation with my prescriber, and I keep going back and forth…read moreon what I could have done differently versus what they could have done better. On one hand, I can see that technically I could have communicated more clearly about the issues I was having with the medication. I could've saved the number that called me when I had contact that one time. Looking back, some of it seems like it could have been simple, like just saying more directly what I was experiencing. I can kind of imagine someone else maybe would've handled it differently. But at the same time, I'm realizing that I wasn't really given clear instructions on what exactly to track or how to measure symptoms. She told me a few things to watch out for, but emotions and side effects can look different for everybody--and that was never really acknowledged or broken down. There wasn't much guidance on what counted as "serious" or what to do if I wasn't sure. It felt like I was expected to just know how to handle all of it, and I didn't. Part of me feels kind of stupid because now that I'm on the other side of it, I can see some things I maybe could've done. But my logical side knows that this was all new to me, and I did the best I could with the support I had--which honestly wasn't a lot. I wasn't given tools, I wasn't offered follow-up until I pushed for it, and when I did try to express myself, I felt like I was being brushed off or talked down to. At one point she even made a mocking face when I asked a genuine question. That really made me feel small. I don't want to just sit in blame, either way. I want to understand what healthy accountability looks like for both me and a provider in a situation like this--because I do want to be someone who communicates clearly and takes care of my health. But I also want to feel safe and respected when I do. Right now, I just feel confused, a little embarrassed, and frustrated. Though I do have to say, Senami still has experience with medication, and gives basic starter medications, so it's not like she's going hay wire, this was just my experience because of my reactions to the medications.
