A nice grocery store located in a 'mall' about two blocks from the hotel. They open at 7am. You enter through the fresh produce aisles. All kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables. I was looking for regular drinking water. Not fizzy. What is the German obsession with fizzy water? Any way, I wanted 'still' water and the clerk helped me right away. I chose Evian and lugged six 1.5 liter bottles back to the hotel. Whew. The people are really hustling and bustling out on the street at 7 am. On their way to work I imagine. Back to the store: it is self-checkout which always unnerves me. They have clerks standing by to help so it was easy. Scan the item, insert your euros, get your change and receipt. Off you go. The City Carre is a shopping mall situated next to the main train station in Magdeburg. Great location, but not many stores can be found and the few that are there, are not very exciting. I think the best of the lot is Woehrl with it's selection of designer brands like Hugo Boss. read more
