An unexpected, beautiful and multi-faceted garden in the middle of Gernsbach, on the bank of the Murg River. I was very pleasantly surprised as I entered the Katz'sche Garten. The grounds are relatively compact; yet replete with a varied array of flowering plants and trees tantalizing the senses. The well thought out, eclectic concept comprises 6 or 7 themes within the enclosed space. As I passed through the wrought iron gates, I was greeted by the formal garden, reminiscent of the grounds at Versailles. Other floral and arboreal highlights include the formal English garden as well as an example of classic Greek architecture, a picturesque view of the banks of the Murg River and the tropical border. On the sunny, warm, spring day of my visit, I was fortunate to meet the man responsible for creating and maintaining today's collection of thriving, luscious greenery. Under his capable and accomplished management, he has integrated artifacts from all over Southern Germany which enhance the unique botanical atmosphere. All in all, the Katz'sche Garten is a delightful warm weather gem, not to be missed in the Northern Black Forest area.
