WOW! The Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower has been closed for over 18 months to do a remodel and it…read moreis impressive. They've totally redone the lobby of the tower with new educational boards. They now teach about, York, Sacagawea, Seaman and the Crew. Plus, Lewis and Clark. In addition to the lobby boards, they expanded and updated the ones on each of the platforms, too. Besides the improves within The Tower itself, there are vast improvements in the surrounding grounds. The courtyard has been brought back to life with murals on the walls and water fountain is back to spraying the area like a mini Ole Faithful. There's also new picnic areas for guest to enjoy. Best of all there's a new playground for the little people to enjoy. It's got a zip line, slides and jungle nets for climbing. The playground has benches for parents and grandparents to sit and observe the little ones play and frolic. The views from the platforms are still amazing and best on a clear day. When on the third level which is 150 feet in the air you can see, where the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers merge together. In addition to The Confluence, you can see The Arch, Barnes Medical Center, Downtown Clayton and even St. Charles. Even if you are not into the history of L&C or The Confluence, going up the tower is still worth the view.

It is 3 stories up and you can see the confluence of the rivers. It's literally about a 5 minute event... then it's over. We asked a few questions of our "guide" but unfortunately he shared that he was new and literally had no answers. It is required that a "guide" goes up the tower with you so I would expect that they would give you an overview or a cool fact or something... They have a cool courtyard area with seating that looks like it would host concerts or something... If they offered an event like that here I would recommend going. If not, I wouldn't make the drive (we drove 45 minutes), but might go if I was in the area.

It was pretty busy and lots of people parking in front on the entry way to do book returns, I guess. The library was bright and clean inside. I just went and looked for a book, found what I needed, and did self-checkout. On my way out I noticed a table with diapers, spices, and paw paws. I wasn't sure what it was about, but I went back to the desk and asked the lady at the counter. The spices and the paw paws were free for the taking. I am not really familiar with Garam Masala, and it was a little packet stapled to pages with history, information, and recipes. So cool! I had also never tasted a paw paw before so I took one of those, too. Their sign indicated they were best eaten same day so I tried it when I got home, it was really good. It's a little over 24 miles out and back from Glen Carbon to Marine. I was really impressed by this paved trail. It is a very pretty trail with lots of wooden miles, several bridges over creeks, and some great views when it opens up to vast farmland. The trail is well maintained. The pavement is pretty smooth for the most part. There are no drastic elevation changes so I'd consider the difficulty level to be easy. I look forward to riding more of this trail system soon.

For nearly 25 years I've been using this trail for walking and biking. There's nothing like it,…read moreeven though there are now similar trails around the area. Its part-history, part-recreational, part-exercise for me. History: this once served as the Illinois Central Railroad line, which was defunct for a long time before it became one of the nations first 'rails-to-trails' projects. There were historical markers along the trail that talked about the village of Glen Carbon's mining history, but I think they removed them due to numerous episodes of vandalism. The trail was a rocky, unpaved trail for a long time, until last year (2015) when the whole RJF bike trail was completely paved. The trail itself has a history, as it has been added on to (extending from Old Troy Road to Kuhn Station one year, and later from Kuhn Station to the village of Marine), and it has connected to other bikeways as well. Signs have also been added, but the mile markers are now gone. The trail has always been a part of the community and stands out as a piece of Glen Carbon history. So bring your bikes, or your energy to run, jog and/or walk!

The media portrays certain images that make people form an opinion not conducive to a city's revitalization. Yes, unfortunate incidents have taken place in Ferguson. Yes, changes are necessary. But this is still "home" to thousands of people. Ferguson is a broken city but I so not believe it will be that way forever. There are still hidden jewels in this little city.
