Katrin is a ballet instructor at the dance studio I go to and incorporates wonderful bodywork into her classes. She is also Laban/Bartenieff-certified and knows a ton about movement, the body, and patterns that hold us back. So when I heard she was offering Grinberg services I jumped at the chance to work with her in this way. Plus, as of my writing this, she is still a Grinberg student so she offers her services at reduced rates -- it's the best 10 euros per hour you can spend!
When I first met with Katrin we set up specific issues I wanted to work on. I chose to work mainly on physical as opposed to emotional issues (although the two are inevitably related). That said, whenever we have delved into emotional territory Katrin has been so inspiring, telling me to deal with anger and hurt other than holding them and making myself small.
My typical session with Katrin goes like this: first I get on the table, she looks at and feels my feet, she asks about how I've been since the last time we saw each other, particularly with respect to the issues we are working on together (my headaches and how cold I get). Then we do bodywork exercises such as breathing into painful places and deliberately tensing tense places so that I can get to know these places of my body better. Another one is Katrin vigorously rubbing certain muscles while I breathe into those places. Then we finish on a more relaxing note such as her moving my head and me trying to let her do that without tensing any muscles (easier said than done!).
Katrin is such a lovely person to work with throughout this process. First, she really makes me feel like I can take credit for the progress I'm making. Second, she is totally non-judgmental when things come up during sessions (emotional responses, unexpected body issues, etc). Third, she has an excellent sense of touch. Fourth, she can relate to you very well as she herself was a Grinberg client for quite a while. I could go on and on about the wonderful aspects of working with Katrin but I'll stop here and say that it's a very beautiful and meaningful experience for me.
The Grinberg center Katrin works at is very cozy. When you go in there are herbal tea and healthy snacks waiting for you. Also, Katrin works in German (her native language) and English; her English is excellent. read more
