I'd be eating a lot of doughnuts and drinking buckets of good coffee. 4.) I needed to find a quality trainer post haste. Fortunately, I found Janan through a mutual friend, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. She provides a rare combination of fitness knowledge, experience and nutritional guidance -- all in the convenice of a private, well-equipped gym. And after an initial consultation, we created an individualized plan to improve strength and overall fitness...as well as combat my not-so-great eating habits. As a former athlete, I've worked with several top coaches and trainers (and some crappy ones, too). I know what works and what doesn't. Janan is the real deal and I highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a trainer who can accommodate a broad range of clients with a sustainable, personal approach to fitness through diet and exercise.

Christa is absolutely great at making sure everyone feels comfortable and making the group a non competitive one. Running was hard at first but I quickly got hooked on it and looked forward to seeing my fellow troopers early mornings 3 days a week. The power of the group really works wonders for motivation, and christa is one of the best group leaders I've ever come across. She has an infectiously positive energy that permeates across more than just exercise. When I was struggling and looking for work, she kept me thinking positive and striving toward my goals. Something must've worked because I got my dream job! I'd recommend Fitlandia to anyone looking for a positive, healthy change - be it large or small.

First off, I'll say that this is a group that is in it to support fitness for the long haul. There is no "go till you drop" mentality - it is supportive, fun, and is designed to allow folks to safely and find their own appropriate challenge level. This is fitness with two awesome twists. The first twist is right in the tagline - a "subconscious twist" - and it's highly insightful. How many of our exercise and fitness decisions (and any decision, really) are driven by subconscious stories we tell ourselves? If you haven't thought much about this before, I'll spare you the suspense: A LOT! Fitlandia beautifully incorporates this aspect of ourselves into an overall fitness program that lasts for the long haul, not just until you can see your leg muscles again, or until you can fit in those pants, or until your wedding is over, or until you're bored or frustrated or whatever. The second twist is Christa King, the motivating, positive minded mastermind and cheerleader behind Fitlandia. She brings a diversity of experiences and an intuitive intelligence to take Fitlandia from a brilliant concept to a concrete fitness program that will change lives for the better. Needless to say, I'm sold.

But Laurie's amazing! She was recommended to me by Michelle Graves (who is also amazing) when Michelle was on leave. I never thought about this until I read someone else's review but Laurie really is a wonderful listener with a calming presence. I've had a lot of stress in my life in the past from work and a car accident. Seeing Laurie improves my pain level and overall health. But I always leave Laurie's office much more relaxed and less stressed - I think in part it's her presence in addition to her skills as an acupuncturist. She takes care of muscle spasms, allerigies, insomnia, stress to just name a few. Like Teresa said, she will also offer suggestions for herbal remedies (even via email) and never pushes a sell which I've experienced before. I'm torn between Laurie and Michelle because both are the best. Bonus is Laurie has night hours. I'm very happy about this. I had neglected my physical fitness for almost a decade and I was staring to see and feel it. I had never tried personal training before, but based on past experience, I knew that to make a long-term positive change in my fitness, I should seriously consider this option. When I first showed up, I discussed my goals with James, and he set me up with Brett as a personal trainer. Brett paid keen attention to my history and goals. At the time he left Portland, a year later, I was very happy with my increased fitness and confidence in my physical abilities. Brett and I also became friends. When Brett left, Tammie transitioned me over to Martin who was just starting there. At first I wasn't sure of this transition, as Martin's style differed from that of Brett's, but over the next few weeks I came to appreciate Martin's style of personal training. He too, paid keen attention to where I was coming from and what my goals were. I highly recommend him. When Brett or Martin weren't available occasionally, I trained with Tammie and Juniper. Those sessions were also great. I consider everyone at Whole Body Fitness to be very professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. Now, as I head out of Portland for extended travel, I'll miss training at Whole Body Fitness, but I expect that the habits and knowledge I've gained will support my fitness goals wherever I go.
