    Mary Jo's Daycare

Our son was in Mary Jo's daycare in Cambridge and we were thrilled with the care she provided him…read more Under her care, he absolutely thrived. He enjoyed his time at her care tremendously, so much in fact that we often had to drag him out at the end of the day. We believe quality of care and flexibility set Mary Jo apart: Quality of Care: Mary Jo's philosophy of creative play including daily field trips outside to playgrounds, libraries, supermarkets, and local shops has shaped our son into an extroverted, outdoors enthusiast. The regular reading she does with the kids as well as the mix of structured and unstructured play, crafts, and music has really helped our son and many kids in her care thrive over the last 30 years she has been in business. In our research, we found that so many daycares rarely take their kids outside, much less to the variety of public spaces Mary Jo frequents with the kids on a daily basis. This really differentiates her care and makes her daycare an attractive and unique choice for parents that want their kids to be well-rounded, healthy, and more worldly. Flexibility: Unlike other daycares, Mary Jo has much more flexible hours and regularly accommodates parents with irregular schedules. She always adheres to ratio guidelines, but this flexibility has allowed us to work a part-time schedule and drop off our son during doctor's appointments when she has openings. We have not found this to be the case elsewhere and it really sets Mary Jo apart as a family-friendly daycare that thinks of the whole family's needs. Because of the quality of care and flexibility, many families stay with Mary Jo until their kids go off to kindergarten. We also know she had kids come in the afternoons after preschool. It is this kind of loyalty which brought us to Mary Jo's in the first place.

Lori is very involved with all the students and their circumstances and does an amazing job making sure they are happy, healthy and safe. Magic offers enrichment almost everyday whether it's gymnastics, sports, music, yoga, swimming, Spanish or outdoor explorations! They work hard for my son and have helped me get him extra help with our towns preschool for OT and PT. I love this school so much and will be so sad when he graduates in 2023. He will be prepared and then some for transitioning into kindergarten and I couldn't be happier with the team he has on his side.

The operative word for the Magic Garden Children's Center is definitely 'magic'. After a spending…read morea few years at a national chain daycare center, we moved and enrolled our son at Magic Garden. Starting from the application process, and our first day of attendance, the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. Director Lori Leo sets the tone for the entire center, and did an amazing job welcoming us to the Magic Garden community. Our very first experience with the center was during the Lincoln Winter Carnival when the center opened its doors to the Lincoln community by hosting a morning of activities for toddlers in town. We followed up with an official visit and the teachers each took time getting to know my son, and alternatively talking to my wife and me. We jumped at a chance to enroll mid-year. Of course, the teachers at Magic Garden also do so very much to develop an entertaining and educational curriculum, and this shines through in the experience they create on a daily basis. With four primary teachers in my son's classroom, and support staff added on top, I know he isn't lacking for attention or entertainment. Indeed nearly every morning the teachers have planned and setup multiple activities and the kids have their choice of what to discover. The teachers also communicate well with us, sharing moments from our son's days and developmental goals and achievements. Further, the center does so much to ensure that the base curriculum is enhanced. Nearly every day, we hear stories or participate in some type of enrichment activity. From tumbling classes and swim lessons, to nature walks and story time with the Lincoln library, I am constantly amazed at the variety of activities my son participates in. My son also participates in the school's 'Starlight' program, which provides daycare for those needing care after the core program completes at 3pm. While most afternoons include lots of time on the playgrounds (there are four playground options on the campus!), I was blown away to discover that the afterschool teachers develop their own curriculum as well, and try hard to keep the kids engaged for the last few hours of the day. Most days I pick up, my son has a huge grin on his face and doesn't want to leave, and nothing makes a parent feel better than that! Most importantly, Magic Garden is a community. While it's not required to put a lot of additional time into the center, parents will find themselves rewarded and enriched for every effort they do make. My wife and I have both visited our son's class to teach about art or music, and it's so great to see how much fun all the kids are having. The community events are all well attended and provide a great way for working parents to connect. We've had a blast at class BBQ's, the annual hoedown, and the tremendous fall apple picking event. This has been a long review, but it's an important one. Magic Garden is a fantastic community. The teachers, the director, the support, and the parents all ensure that the kids are well cared for, educated and entertained. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

This is a review for the PTG Concord Strawberry Hill Day Care Center: It is *NOT* a place I would…read morerecommend for parents who are interested in a loving, well-organized, usefully-structured, learning environment for their children. The Center is inexpensive relative to others in the area and the low quality is consistent with the low price. The low quality begins with the Center Director, who seems to be a decent person (really, she truly is nice and decent in conversation), but does not appear particularly well-trained for management or truly competent in running a business. Her main reason for coming to work seems to be to spend time with her children. If you visit the Center, look for her in one of the rooms with her children, as she appears to be there more often than in her office working on Center business. The Director does not communicate effectively with parents and does not take any obvious leadership role in training her staff. For example, *none* of the teachers are trained to greet parents or children when they arrive at the Center, either for pickup or drop-off, although this is a standard practice at other Centers. In addition, the Director recently *sent an email blaming the parents* after the Center was cited by the state for having too few teachers per student in one of the classrooms. The teachers are quite nice and care about the kids. They could be warmer with the parents. The high school students and younger teachers are the most caring. There is also one excellent teacher who works with toddler-age kids and one who works with the pre-school kids. The older teachers seem to like the kids, but there is not a sense of love at the center like at lots of other centers. Place To Grow Concord also has a significant tick problem that it cannot seem to solve (we have found ticks on our kid twice after school!). The school has tried to solve this problem, but it is so close to the woods that it is hard to fix. Also, the rooms, except for the Pre-School rooms are pretty small. The center runs a Montessori Pre-school Program, but I'm not sure it is effective in preparing kids for kindergarten or in inspiring them to learn. The biggest issue, though, is the Center Director, who, despite running a very small center, seems to be disinterested in the job and overwhelmed. It is quite a shame, because the Center has a number of teachers with high potential and a decent but small outdoor play area. Overall, we are glad that we got our kid out of there when we did and are sure that our kid will learn more and have a more loving environment in the new center. Perhaps Place to Grow can realize its potential once the current director's kids graduate and she moves on... The owner seems quite capable and does seem to care about the center.

Jill and her team are the very best! They provide a loving and nurturing environment that we feel so lucky our kiddos are a part of. They have a school-wide curriculum with age appropriate activities for each classroom and lots of fun themed days/weeks... the last several years they have had an annual Art Show and Trunk or Treat for families, which has been so nice to feel involved in our kiddos' school community. Communication has always been great and we've never felt badly reaching out about the tiniest things ("did we leave the baby's milk cup?".... "did she finally stop crying after I left?"...). Most importantly, the teachers are all amazing and truly have gotten to know our kids and feel like family to us. They are kind, approachable, and consistently work wonderfully with both of our children and their individual needs and we feel so grateful for that! We feel so lucky that BCC is where our kids began their childcare/education and are so happy it is where they will be until they transition off to Kindergarten.

Children requiring different routines and attention can sometimes disrupt the schedule and sleep of other children. The director often reprimands the teachers very harshly in front of anyone, which is unprofessional and uncomfortable to witness. I strongly suggest she reconsider her approach and treat the teachers the ones who make parents feel confident and happy with the respect they deserve. As a parent, I want the best for my children while I work a place that can provide comfort and proper rest. We pay a lot of money to ensure our children's routine and sleep are respected, so it is disappointing when these are disrupted. Please do not misinterpret my words, and I apologize in advance, but there are many parents who are not happy with the disruption to our children's routines, especially when there are other centers designed to meet the needs of these children. The teachers are truly the heart of the center and the only reason I would recommend it.

My children are young (2 and 4), so it's my first school encounter as a parent, and I know the bar has been set incredibly high. The children are nurtured and deeply cared for by amazing, highly qualified and empathetic teachers who lead by example. They are genuinely excited to go to school each day, and, through the Montessori teaching method, absorb imperative life, critical thinking, analytical, and social skills in the classroom that they then take home with them. Oak Meadow students (my own and those that I've observed of all ages) are independent thinkers who are considerate, respectful, and supportive of one another. It's so refreshing to witness! Oak Meadow is a very special learning environment - we looked at many preschools in the area, and are consistently impressed with Oak Meadow's curriculum, teachers, and community.

The school proved to be a wonderful choice for my son's education . It has helped him develop a sound foundation in all aspects of academic learning while providing him the right kind of social and emotional support necessary for well rounded development. He has gone onto thrive in a highly competitive high school program with no issues. The personal attention and care that he received from his teachers all through his years at the school has a lot to do with this success. We have been so happy with his progress that we had no hesitation to start his younger brother in the same program a few years ago and we have been very happy with how well he is thriving at the school. If you are looking for excellent academics this school is a good choice. If you are looking for more than just academic excellence, I think there is nothing better than this school and its teachers!!
