This firm employs questionable ethics. I was in need of an attorney for a business and divorce…read morecase. I was assured that the attorney I was assigned was top of the line. For a year and a half I was strung along with no progress in my case, terrible communication, and this feeling that I just couldn't shake that something was off. All of this after being confidently assured the case would be resolved in three months. I paid this firm more than $26,000 before realizing they were accomplishing nothing more than draining my already strained bank account. As it turns out, the attorney working my case had been disbarred TWICE for ethical violations, including lying and falsification of evidence. They are now suing me for an unpaid attorney fees totaling a little more than $5000 (plus interest). Remember, I already paid over $26,000. Despite being sued, I have no intention of paying the remaining balance because I have strong reason to believe there is evidence they violated our contract. In fact, I may have a counterclaim against them. In addition, the wife of the owner is now harassing and threatening via digital messages due to my negative reviews of their firm. I am aware that libel is a serious offense, and I have made sure everything I have said has been absolutely true. I am just hoping to save anyone, like myself, who finds themselves in a difficult legal situation from wasting their time and money with this firm. Good luck and please beware. As a postscript to all this, my suspicions about this firm were confirmed when I hired a great law firm who swiftly took charge, won my case, and showed me how true professionals operate.

We "suspect" that he traded favors for favors with the opposing counsel - either that, or he is incompetent (I highly doubt that he is incompetent). The problem that you have with small town attorney's is that everyone knows everyone, and therefore, there is a kind-of "camaraderie among thieves" if you will. It's unspoken, and therefore, unprovable. In my case, Mr. Bode's case was provided to him from a high level law firm in Chicago and all Bode had to do was execute as directed. However, it "seems" that Bode "threw the case", as no one could understand his action, and I am referencing other law firms. We hired Mr. Bode because we felt that he was a "snake" and expected him to take no prisoners'. Instead, we discovered that he is a snake, out for himself. The problem that "you" have with suing an attorney, is that the attorney can claim; 'Well your honor, they hired me for my expertise, and this is a disgruntle customer"... So in other words, don't waste your time, because you won't get anywhere. Mr. Bode is very aware of this. So the lesson for us is that it is better to hire an attorney outside of area, and pay for travel, versus hiring an attorney that has relationships with other attorney's in the area.

(All of which wanted to charge me to even set up a consult.) I came across Murphy and Dunn. They were very attentive and set me up with a call back from a lawyer, Ben Mills. Ben called me back within a couple of hours. He had a consult with me free if charge. Ben was very kind, patient and understanding. He made sure to address all of my concerns before hiring him and his team on to take my case. Ben and his team Dina and Dawn did a wonderful job! They all understood that I had never been through this process before and knew that I was worried about how it was going to go and about the cost. They were more than happy to explain things to me in a way that I was able to understand. They also worked with me on making payments as well. There were a few times when it did take a day or two for them to call me back. Instead of getting up set or frustrated I just tried to see from their point of view that I was not their only case that they had to tend to and that I needed to be patient.
