I have had both great and terrible experiences with both clinicians and office support staff. I am…read morehappy with my current PCP at Clinical Associates. However, I felt traumatized by my treatment by a previous PCP there, her medical assistant and the office staff. All seemed careless, marginally competent at best and indifferent to whether I lived or died if it required any time, attention or effort on their part. It did not appear to be anything personal. The whole experience felt totally impersonal. This was the Woodholme office, which seems horribly poorly managed with zero quality control standards. No one ever answers the phone. You have to leave a message. Maybe they call you back within 24 hours, maybe they don't. I don't think I ever got any response to any messages sent through the patient portal to my previous PCP. I once had a telehealth appointment scheduled with her, used the link the office sent me and waited about 45 minutes without her showing up. Tried calling the office. No one answered, as usual. No one responded to my voicemail. She finally called me several hours later and claimed the staff had some problem processing my insurance. God forbid they treat me without making sure the insurance claim went through. Nevermind that my insurance hadn't changed since my previous visit and no one else has ever mentioned having this problem. I was very confused, frustrated and disappointed by the process and the lack of respect it displayed for me as a patient, especially since no one called to let me know what was going on or to check whether I could be available later. I got a perfunctory apology and the sense that my PCP did not think this was any big deal. Just one bad experience among several over a couple of years before I fired her. Should have done it sooner. Until recently, I also had a specialist at the Woodholme office, but she left the practice and wasn't allowed to tell her patients where she was going. She referred me to a colleague, which would have been fine EXCEPT when I tried in March to make a follow-up appointment, no one was available until November! Unacceptable when I'm trying to manage a serious medical condition, had just recently been put on a new medication, and had some concerns I felt needed monitoring. Fortunately, I was able to get an appointment with a few weeks with a specialist at a different practice. I used to have a fantastic PCP and eye doctor with Clinical Associates, but both retired several years ago. Since then, things seem to have gone extremely downhill. I am giving them two stars only because I like my current PCP so much. She is in the Reisterstown office, where a real person answers the phone most of the time, voicemail messages are returned the same day and my messages through the patient portal are promptly addressed. Based on my experience, I would give the Reisterstown office four stars (have had some isolated issues with one very unprofessional staff person there or else it would be five stars) and the Woodholme office zero stars.

I have been a patient of Dr Malinow for a year now and I have been extremely impressed by both him…read moreand his entire staff. Every time I arrive at his practice they have been expecting me; I never wait. In fact, I'm usually running a little late and I get a friendly call inquiring if I hit traffic and what my ETA will be. Immediately I'm able to see my doctor. Lou is extremely thorough, thoughtful, and his follow up is unbelievable. Lou is just different than other doctors. I'll give you an example, my medical record shows that I started taking an antidepressant during my separation/divorce. Most doctors would see the obvious reason/cause for such a prescription. However, Lou knowing that I had just moved to Baltimore from San Francisco delved deeper and he wanted to know how I was coping with this transition and more importantly how I was getting along with creating new friends and socials groups. He precribed me rec league team sports to foster new friendships. That's a superhuman kind of listening that you don't acquire or get to use in a traditional rushed primary care setting. Lou being a participating doctor of MDVIP seems to empower a terrific physician to be superhero physician. Every visit I've had with Lou is similar as he goes deeper than I thought possible or have experienced in the pastx That one time he referred me to GI specialist just to be sure he didn't miss anything, well Lou's diagnosis was spot on whereas the GI doc was "unsure". When the CT scan was complete, it was Lou who called me personally within 30 minutes of it being read by the radiologist whereas the GI took the standard 24 hours to call me. In fact, it was actually his staff member that did the calling. I believe Lou cares about my health more than I do. I feel as if I am Lou's only patient to rationalize why he is so attentive with me. However, I understand his practice has nearly the max capacity of 600 patients that MDVIP allows to ensure personalized patient focus, which is way better than being just one of a few thousand like my previous doctor. And yes, I'm on a first name basis with my doctor because when someone knows you as well how can you not be? I cannot say enough great things about Lou. While he is my primary care doctor, in just a short year, he really feels like a friend who knows and cares more about my well being, than most of my actual friends.

His MDVIP-affiliated practice is open to new patients, including Medicare and commercially insured, in Baltimore. Dr. Malinow sees fewer patients, which means he has more time to offer. Similar to concierge medicine physicians, Dr. Malinow is available 24/7 by phone. His practice offers the MDVIP Wellness Program, which includes advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests that have been shown to help detect issues earlier.

During her time as my provider, I had nothing but positive experiences with both her and Clinical Associates. Unfortunately, since her retirement and the subsequent transfer of patients to Andrea Holzman, CNP and now to Tanya Johnson, CNP the quality of care and communication has significantly declined. I have repeatedly attempted to refill a prescription by leaving voicemail messages, sending requests through the patient portal, and having my pharmacy submit refill requests. None of these attempts have received a response. Additionally, my wife has been experiencing the same ongoing issues, and I know we are not the only patients affected. At this point, I am actively seeking a new healthcare facility. I am unsure whether the current provider is overwhelmed or simply not prioritizing patient care; however, the lack of communication is unacceptable. Calls to the front desk routinely go unanswered, and messages left are not returned. This is extremely disappointing given my long-standing history with this practice.
