The bar owner is a total fan of the Texas Tornadoes and anything Texan. He's a Finn, but has traveled to the Lone Star State several times to take in the beauty, and is bringing a little Texas to Finland! I felt like this bar would be right at home in the Texas Hill Country. Around the bar, you'll find posters depicting the likes of Doug Sahm, Dale Watson, and Willie Nelson. There are Lone Star flags up over the register! God Bless Texas! The owner is a bigger Texas Tornadoes fan than I am, and I love their stuff- I thought I knew all their songs, but they've worked some Texas Tornado references into the bar that even I had to stop and think on. On Monday nights, they hold a jam session (no cover!), where local musicians get together and jam on a country/rockabilly rhythm, and crank out the jams. The best was hearing Johnny Cash sung with a Finnish accent! They have an extensive beer and liquor list, and the staff is friendly. The place feels safe, and clean. There are plenty of places to sit, along with some slot machines. They offer the national beer of Finland on draft, Karhu, but most of their best beers are micro-brews from a bit further north in Finland- amazing IPAs. The prices are quite reasonable, and it's warm inside. I had an absolute blast hanging out here, and reminiscing of Texas with the owner- he brought out his guitar and jammed out some acoustic Texas Tornado music. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in Helsinki!

We tried the phone at first, but it didn't work; thankfully we noticed a doorbell-like button and after pressing it were shown a table right away. We went on a weekday and it was pretty dead, only one other group inside, so if you want to check out this bar without the wait I highly recommend going midweek. The bar itself is intimate and mysterious, definitely has that speakeasy vibe, and we adored their playlist, it really helped set the atmosphere. The cocktail menu is fun, telling a story about each drink and leaning heavily into their detective theme. Drinks were great and each came with a fun amuse-bouche that helped enhance the flavor of the cocktail. There are no prices on the menu, but my cocktail was €15, which I felt was fair given the level of detail that goes into the drinks. The bartender was nice, answered all of our questions, and made excellent cocktails! We had a great time and I definitely recommend checking this place out to anyone in the city.

This summer, most of the trendy sea side places seem to be on the other side of town (Hernesaari), but this one has all the charm. The place is cosy and relaxed, the bar tender was funny and helpful (we even saw him serving tables which seems to be unheard of in Finland!!), and the view over the old harbour with wooden schooners was pretty by the sunset. The place had also selected their drinks carefully to display a great variety of Finnish specialties. To our surprise, they even serve Sandels and Iisalmi IPA beers on tap! For those who don't know, they come from a Finnish owned brewery from the Savo-region - worth tasting!

He was always innovating with cool new twists on traditional cocktails like the Manhattan, asking me about my tastes and then coming up with something interesting, sometimes with a Nordic-inspired twist, like using aquavit (and one of his drinks was called a "Mannerheim Sour"). I knew nothing about cocktails and he pretty much taught me whatever I know -- which still isn't much, so I'm not going to pretend I know what I'm talking about -- but I enjoyed reconnecting with him at this quirky, off-the-beaten-path gem of a new bar in Helsinki, which pretty much feels like it's straight out of Brooklyn, with vinyl records for sale in the back and vintage 1970s movie posters. I also enjoyed chatting with another of the bartenders, Mikko; everyone was very friendly. They have an intriguing selection of beers (my personal favorite is the EloWehnä from the Finnish Keisari brewery), nice wines, and of course you can ask Chris for cocktail suggestions. Giving this bar even more atmosphere is the fact that apparently the space, which was part of an old meatpacking plant here, used to be exactly where the meatpacking workers' sauna was, and the green tile behind the bar is apparently from the original sauna area. Oh, I almost forgot: speaking of meat, also try the house-made pastrami sandwich, I thought it was excellent. There is outdoor seating for those endless summer nights. The whole courtyard area here, Teurastamo, where the bar is, is worth checking out; speaking of more meat, the B-Smokery barbecue joint is just next door as well.

Light Show is also very decent. The sound system however is not the best and the quality of the music is not as good as it could be. (problems with high Sounds) The staff is friendly and you usually don't have to stand in line for long. The crowd on the other hand is not my favourite. They appeared to me as regular party people who go into the club to get wasted and/or laid. The music is hardly appreciated and dancing to techno doesn't seem to be established yet since everyone was just swaying from right to left or shaking their body off beat like a spaghetti fearing for its life. The invited DJs are still good and with the right kind of friends it's probably a lot of fun. Just don't expect expressive dancers.
