We spent the day with one of our vendors, and they offered to take us out for dinner. Asked if we…read morehad any preferences, and we told him we're game for anything. We drove into town, and found a parking spot a few blocks away from this place. This restaurant is housed in an older, but well maintain building. Very spacious inside with lots of darkly-stained wooden chairs and tables. Lots of large table to accommodate large groups and parties. Started first as a brewery, the inn was added later to feature its beer. As we entered the inn, we were warmly greeted by the proprietors, who showed us to our tables. Of course we started with some of their house dark lager as we looked through the menu (luckily, it was in several languages, including English). As we were enjoying our beer, the proprietor came by and took our orders. I ordered: -Bavarian Duck Liver Dumpling Soup (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zVGft47jdKpy2mWM2jQAzA?select=B24ewwB27APKjF0LYlfbrg#B24ewwB27APKjF0LYlfbrg): A clear duck broth, topped with a duck-liver dumpling. It was comforting, and hearty without being heavy. Perfect for that cold day. -Leg of Venison Goulash with Swabian Noodle Spaezle and Lingonberries (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zVGft47jdKpy2mWM2jQAzA?select=B24ewwB27APKjF0LYlfbrg#FiCzKgQsmQFY8Nz3AVN69A): game is the specialty of this area, so I had to have some venison. A hearty stew, with very tender venison. Not gamey tasting, slightly tart sauce, but tasty nonetheless. Spaezle was nicely pan-fried, crispy at the ends, but tender, slightly chewy in the center. Between the main and dessert, our host recommended trying their dark wheat beer (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zVGft47jdKpy2mWM2jQAzA?select=B24ewwB27APKjF0LYlfbrg#DEr-8RbYTrAdM_Hvbx4oWg). Lots of hops, with a nice head on top. Slightly sweet, but tasty nonetheless. Dessert: -Kaiserscharrn- pancake/crepe cut up, browned with sugar, almonds, and raisins, served with an apple sauce (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/zVGft47jdKpy2mWM2jQAzA?select=B24ewwB27APKjF0LYlfbrg#ngQimRp19lYfPRY0gdibMQ). A very generous serving, arrived hot to the table. I loved how the sugar caramelized the almonds and raisins, and the ends of the pancake. Apple sauce cooled down the temperature of the pancake. It was really good! I had no problems finishing it myself. Loved the charm and the coziness of this place. If I'm back in the area again, I'll be sure to drop on by.
