Kass Kass is an unassuming Korean restaurant that opens till the wee hours right on Flinders (close to King street). From the outside it has posters on Asian dishes served, and inside it's a no frills place with dimmed lighting and soft Korean music playing.
The menu is simple to understand and its first page presents newcomers with the most popular choices. Prices for each dish average $15 AUD.
Since it's open late, Kass Kass attracts a secondary dinner rush around 21:30 and can get a tad busy, thus rather slow. There is one cook, one waitress whose English needs more practice, and a bus boy that helps them out. Looks like a family business.
Not wanting to eat heavy I ordered a soft tofu seafood soup. The dish comes with steamed white rice and a bit of kimchi. The soup contained 2 prawns, 2 mussels, 4 pieces of squid, and one tiny octopus. The customary raw egg on top was added to this spicy red soup that was filled with soft tofu pieces and thin onion wedges. I think it was rather tasty. You could really taste it being a fish soup in essence but not in a bad way.
The restaurant only accepts cards over $20, so bring cash if you are one person.
Service is not very attentive, maybe because they were busy, or due to the language barrier.
I give it 4 stars. The food was good and other plates passing by looked generous and tasty. read more
