The Karl Johan Monument is located at The Royal Palace in Oslo which was built in the first half of the 19th century as the Norwegian residence of Norwegian and Swedish king Charles III (Carl Johan, Charles XIV of Sweden) and is the official residence of the present Norwegian Monarch. The crown prince couple resides at Skaugum in Asker west of Oslo. The palace has 173 rooms.
Karl Johan was King of Sweden (as Charles XIV John) and King of Norway (as Charles III John) from 1818 until his death. Before he became king, he was also the Sovereign Prince of Pontecorvo, in Southern Italy, between 1806 and 1810.
The Monument stands proudly in the front the Palace. I love photographing this area and the building itself. read more
