A large menu board occupied one wall and listed a large variety of dishes in both Polish and English. The counter was manned by two persons. One who rang me up and the other relayed my order to the back. At the counter I picked up my tray, utensils and perused the plates of salads and desserts. I self picked my salad plate (just three type of shredded veggies) and then my Kotlet Schabowy (pork cutlet like schnitzel) came out of the kitchen window and was handed to me. It felt more cafeteria style here but service was fast. The shredded salad was better than I expected just not a fan of the sauerkraut pile. The kotlet was decent size but just warm like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The mashed potatoes was a big scoop and was a good complement. Overall decent food for an inexpensive price.

It won't be the best version of the dishes, but typically quick and great for lunchtime. This particular spot closes earlier in the evening . This one is exceptionally busy due to its proximity to the tourist district. If you come earlier in the morning, not all things are available. However, we stopped in shortly after 11 for lunch and was perfect because it wasn't crowded. Half an hour later the restaurant was full and a line.

When you walk in to the restaurant, you're engulfed by wood...seriously: wooden ceilings, wooden walls, wooden tables and wooden chairs & benches. The waiters run around in traditional Polish clothing and it's all so stereotypical...but also fun in a way. On the day that I came here it was snowing and so the warmth that this place gave off, was exactly what I needed. I came here with a Krakowian colleague of mine (does that word even exist?) and he said that this would be the kind of place that you would not go as a local with other locals, but you would take visitors here, as it kind of oozes of this old-world feel and in a way represented the old Poland. Which - in other words - means it's a touristy place, but I didn't care much about that, as it was the middle of winter and there weren't any tourists around anyway. Foodwise, I'd give this place 3 stars - it was ok: heavy food, that definitely reminds me of the Bavarian/Swabian cuisines: duck, red cabbage, dumplings, etc. (This showed me again how much we Germans and Poles actually do have in common.) But it was alright and definitely hit the spot...plus, in conjunction with some good beer and a free shot of schnapps at the end, I was happy as a cow! In short: this is definitely a place I would come back to as it is just so damn gemütlich!

I didn't see an elevator option so if you can't walk down the stairs you may want to call the restaurant to see if there is a way for you to go downstairs from the street level safely, just in case I did not see that option when I was there, before you head out there. Since I was dining alone I was unable to try those menu options for 2 or more people. I ordered the red borscht with ravioli (28zl) as my appetizer, and the mix regional starter plate (48zl) which included 3 different traditional appetizers: grilled cheese served with cranberry sauce, dumplings with cottage cheese and potato filling, and the Galician rye meal soup with sausage and egg. It was a very hot day (78 degrees Fahrenheit) so it was refreshing to hydrate my body with the nice hot red borscht with beets. The mix regional starter plate was quite filling, so I am glad I had it as my main course as I was full after that. Service was quite good and efficient, so I was out of there in about 45 minutes. The server brought my check in a nicely decorated wooden box and there was a suggestion of 10% tips on the bill, and a small glass of free digestif which was a very nice surprise.
