Yesterday, a close family friend commented that he has noticed a significant growth in confidence, composure and maturity in my 2 kids since he first met them last summer. We train at least 2 days a week. During each class for every age group, there is a character lesson of the week. Lessons like, how to make a SMART goal, how to be gracious receiving Christmas gifts you already have or don't want, trick or treating safety, what to do if someone bullies you, etc. I love that all of these life skills are immediately applicable. I love that training at Tersak's is more than karate and self defense, it is also leadership and character building. A few months after both kids started training, I joined in. My husband followed 2 months later. Now we do the Open Family class together every Saturday morning (along with tons of other families). I also train in Adult class 1-3 times per week. I am building adult friendships for Me. I am honing my body for Me. My kids can see me as an example of consistency, dedication and doing hard things. And, we spend family time together doing something active and without screens. Two of my favorite "extracurricular" karate events at Tersak's were Family Board Breaking Night and the Spring Tournament. I also really enjoy the festive events like Trunk or Treat and Easter Egg Hunt! The people here are good people. I am so thankful the Abitria family told me to check out this dojo. We signed up for the trial, and it was great to learn the basics and get to know the structure and the people. During the trial, it was a great time for my daughter to get acclimated, focus on the routines, and the instructors were amazing! They took time and adjusted their teachings to the students and reinforced with practice it will come together. Each instructor was thoughtful, caring, and patient. Master Clarissa also helped guide me through signing up and talking through some of my daughter's unique needs. Amazing service! Our first beginners class today was wonderful. My daughter joined mid semester, and everyone has been so helpful, welcoming, and supportive! There are so many positives to PVMAA. From the application with easy access videos for practice to the scheduling, to purchasing gear, and overall, the owner and everyone there is so great at communicating and connecting. After my daughter earned her white belt on the way home, she said she was so proud of herself, and it really made her feel good about herself. Those are magic words to any parent. We shopped around, and this one for sure, hands down, was the winner. I would highly recommend it!

I want to share my extremely disappointing experience with Tersak. Despite the quality of their…read moretraining, they are absolutely not honest or fair when it comes to their cancellation policies. My daughter had a medical issue, and we provided all the necessary documentation that she wouldn't be able to continue. They told us verbally that the two-month notice requirement would be waived due to her health condition. However, they still charged us for two extra months and refused to refund the money, even though they had promised otherwise. In short, they care more about squeezing out every penny than being fair to their customers. I'm leaving this review to warn others: no matter what they promise you verbally, they may still take your money and ignore their own word. Be cautious before signing up here.

In that time we have experienced some of the most kind and caring adults and student instructors at this location. Becki, the lead black belt and main instructor is a joy to know, and has really influenced my child in wonderful ways. As an great example of a strong woman, she has empowered my daughter to seek out her own reserves of strength, perseverance, and achievement. Aside from that, she has added to the wealth of adult figures(teachers, family, friends) in my child's life that inspire her to learn and become more disciplined everyday. The practice at this dojo is all about effort, positive attitude, and self-discipline. The karate techniques come very easily once these practices are in place, and I could not be more thankful that those foundations are being laid for all areas of my daughter's life.
