Photo Service is pretty good on most fronts…read more Their rentals are fairly priced and they have a good selection of lenses, cameras, lighting etc. Their retail floor has quite a bit of stock but tracking down a salesperson can be difficult at times. They have mostly anything that you'd need, but can also order things in as needed. They have a very good selection of darkroom paper (including colour paper), film (B&W, colour, formats up to 4x5), archival binders and sleeves, etc. With the low Canadian dollar, their prices are competitive with B&H. Photo Service's developing and printing services are both good. Personally, I prefer Borealis for development and I find their turnaround quicker than Photo Service. Both labs offer similar services with the exception of E6 (slide/positive) development which only Borealis offers. Though I greatly prefer Borealis and recommend them to everyone I know, I would still recommend Photo Service- especially compared to Photo St. Denis which is really mediocre. All in all, a quality store with good services and a great selection of products.

I needed passport photos with digital copies on the double, so I started mapping nearby shops. Out…read moreof the six places I called, only three bothered to pick up the phone; and of those three, Acco Photo had the lowest prices. This was not a "you get what you pay for" situation. As their website states, "you are so welcomed to our store." I walked into their clean, naturally lit space and was immediately greeted by Annie and her husband (As in, they stopped what they were doing, walk towards the counter, had genuine smiles on their faces, and said "hi."). If their old-school customer service wasn't enough to keep me there, their mounted certifications would've been ample. As a photographer, Annie was quick on the draw. She made sure to snap enough picks to have something decent to choose from; and they cleaned up my best shot without Gabourey Sidibe-ing me. 'Nough said. As a professional photo and multimedia studio, Acco Photo still shows that the small stuff is a priority by hanging a large map that displays the 288 countries whose passport specs they follow. They're multi-lingual (English, French, and Chinese...but they may have more up their sleeve), fast, knowledgable, and a place I'd definitely give my money to again.

I've been wanting to get a film camera for a long time, finally decided to do it while on vacation…read more We looked up several camera shops but it seemed that most were closed or super pricey. As someone who was just getting into film, I wasn't ready to spend upwards of $700 on a camera. We found this shop on Google and decided to stop in. It's a small spot, filled with cameras and equipment. There was one other girl there grabbing more film. We didn't catch the guys name but I'm assuming he was the owner. He was very sweet and helpful from the minute we came in. I didn't know what I was looking for so he asked some questions, what did I want to take pictures of, stuff like that, and then pulled out three cameras. He walked me one by one through what the differences are of each. I ended up going with a Minolta SRT-201. He showed me how to shoot for different lighting, and how to put the film in. It was very reasonably priced. I got the camera and two lenses for $275. He told us we can come back to get the film developed and we can pick up physical prints or he can email it to us. He clearly loved what he did and wanted to share that passion.

They have a good selection of nice frames of different sizes at reasonable prices. We were able to pick out a frame and print our pictures from her phone on the spot. Not only that, but the nice salesman in the store volunteered to place the photos in the frame and hang a picture wire on it for us, thus saving me about 30 minutes of work at home and doing a much better job of it in the process. I know it's usually easier and cheaper to send things off to Walmart or similar, but for something special there's no substitute for expert and professional service at a place like this.
