I live in Buena Park, and although there are many taekwondo academies close to my neighborhood, I am very satisfied with the curriculum here, so it's worth the 20-minute drive to Whittier twice a week. All classes are conducted by Master Kang himself, and he is a true Taekwondo master who accurately guides the spirit and movement of Taekwondo according to the children's eye level. My daughter started in March and has now obtained a yellow belt. As a result, her behavior has improved a lot, and I am so grateful to see that her confidence has increased in school life and friendships. I have both my kids age 6 ans 9 attending here almost 10 months now. Both are growing in different areas. They like the challenge the classes bring. They are challenged physically and mentally. We are happy with the small classes vs other places we checked out before deciding on Master Kangs class. There are hard days but they are always eager to retuen and learn new moves, new phrases and improve on their form. Their favorite class is sparring. I have a son (9) and a daughter (6) I bring here. I visited other classes to see which I felt was suitable for them. We decided on Master Kangs because the kids enjoyed his approach. I was sold on the place when I saw results on both my children. My docile boy became more confident and aggressive. Weirdly enough my wild child girl calmed down and listened to us more. The sparring on the weekends was my goal for them. I wanted to see how they would react to contact. A shock for sure by the third session they were hooked. I feel this class was a missing piece for my kids. A balance they needed. Master Kang is strict and playful at the right times. I feel both is needed and is ideal for what a Mentor should be. One of the greatest gifts my father gave me as a child was to put me through a martial arts school. It built my confidence, my focus and discipline. Traits that I still hold on to as an adult. My two older sons who are now adults received the same training. Due to a back injury I was unable to train my 10 year old daughter. I started going to Kang's Sunrise Taekwondo just to do some exercise and lose some weight. I figured I could learn to protect myself since I run alone and be less intimidated by my bully (yes, adults are bullied too). Little did I know that Master Kang was going to help me find my inner strength and courage. At the beginning I would cry when he would say he knew I was strong inside. I couldn't verbalize "I can do it", nor "I'm the best" as he asked me to say aloud. I realized my bully had done a lot more damage than I ever thought since I'm 56 years old. My self esteem was very low! Little by little I learned to believe in myself and believe that I really had the ability to look at my bully straight in the eye and not back down and I did! We did an 4 intro sessions. My boys (6 and 3) loved it. Master Kang is EXCELLENT with the kids and they have fun while learning discipline of Tae Kwon Do but also at home. Their curriculum is great when it comes to accountability of the child and their behavior. The only downfall is that it is WAY to expensive and its not Master Kangs fault...its a franchise school and so they set the prices so we couldnt responsibly afford to continue which is a shame cause my boys REALLY loved it and enjoyed being taught by Master Kang. So I couldnt rate Master Kang or the instruction lower just because the price was not reasonable. This rating is based on the instructor, his customer service and the facilities instruction. read more

Our 5 year old son has been going here for around 6 months and enjoys it up to this day. Master Kang not only teaches Taekwondo styles but also the discipline that is needed. He makes his classes fun but at the same time serious enough for them to learn what is needed. Not only do we like how he teaches the class, we like how he continues to teach kids confidence in themselves. He also teaches the importance of a good attitude/behavior they need to show during class and most importantly when outside of class. Respect is also a main teaching in his class. At home we always remind our son, when his behavior falters (as normal with kids), if that is in line with Master Kang's teachings, and if it is something Master Kang and we as parents should be expecting. Whenever that happens, our son has been more aware of what is the correct attitude and behavior. If you read other reviews, you can see it is great for kids in that he has a reward system which the kids love. It helps show progress and makes it fun for the kids to do their best in each class. The most important facet of all this is it that our son has fun. That is what makes him want to go to as many classes as he can during the week. For anyone interested, please give the trial period a chance. I believe it may be a very low cost and it will help you make the decision on if you and/or your kid will like it. In all honesty, one may think that pricing may be high (which I thought at first) but since he has started, we have no regrets. It's worth what our son is learning and the fun he is having. We actually even enrolled him a few months ago in the Black Belt Club where it involves additional classes that provide more training in other aspects of Taekwondo. It costs a little more but our son really enjoys going to class. Master Kang does expect a little more from his students in those classes which is understood. read more
