Normally in small towns, I'm disappointed with international foods, but I was very surprised at Kang.
I'm a bit of a foodie, maybe even a food snob. Here I was impressed with the authenticity AND quality. Better than many Thai food I've tried in Melbourne, in London, and many other places around the world.
Food...
We had the chicken satay, seafood claypot ginger wok stir fried vegetables, and som tum. All delicious, I recommend ordering. The quality of ingredients used stood out. The som tum, ask for the authentic version with bits of salted crab. The seafood claypot had huge amounts of fresh and quality seafood. The ginger stir fry vegetables had lots of fresh ginger - despite this being an expensive ingredient here in Australia! This place doesn't skimp on quality ingredients.
Ambience...
Very tastefully decorated by the owner. Plush leather chairs, interesting wall decorations. Quiet and not echoey. Good for date nights, business dinners, a special celebration.
The food pricing was very fair, and the portions were big. I recommend ordering 3 main dishes and a starter between 4 people.
The only downside? The non alcoholic drink pricing looked very expensive. $10 for iced Thai milk tea? $8 for lemon and lime bitters? Wow.
If I stayed in Bendigo, I would come here all the time for the food. read more
