Kale Cafe, located next to the Bosphorus, was an exquisite find for me. I was perplexed breakfast could ever be sooo good. We were a group of hungry tourist girls ready to be impressed, especially since our well-informed Turkish friend, being a local, told us this meal was a must in Istanbul. She nailed it. In fact, I've declared it the best breakfast I've had in my life! It also had an amazing view and great service! We had a sort of Kahvalti, which appears to be a spread of many food items. We had a variety of cheeses, olives, sliced cucumber and tomatoes, jam, gozleme and kaymak with honey. Kaymak is akin to clotted cream, but the combination with the honey was just out of this world. The gozleme is made of hand-rolled dough and is usually stuffed with other savory ingredients. It was outrageously good. The combination of the kaymak, cheese and the gozleme had a certain je ne sais quoi that enticed me; I now know heaven exists lol. We also had two types of menemen, which is an egg mixture. One had eggs, onion, tomato and green peppers. It was very good and spicy, just as I like it! The other one had the same ingredients plus sucuk. Sucuk is a Turkish sausage, which according to legend, is supposed to be very good. The rest of the girls had this menemen, and absolutely loved it! They said the sucuk was delicious and gave the dish more flavor. It also came with sigara böreği, which consists of philo-dough stuffed with cheese rolled like a cigar. One word, amazing! There were many other borek varieties that were absolutely delicious! The Turkish tea that came with it was also divine. If you are in Istanbul, you really really have to pay Kale Cafe a visit. It is extraordinary, I can't emphasize that enough! I've declared my breakfast here as the most delicious breakfast in my life so far. I mean the combination of cheese, gozleme, kaymak and honey was simply spectacular.

I'm not a big breakfast fan, but this place was fantastic! The best view and breakfast I've ever had in my entire life, hands down!

I had the basic breakfast they offer. It includes a few small dishes and a basket of bread. If I lived here in Istanbul I'd come to this place every Saturday morning! It's that good!

Great view!

From the moment we walked in, I was amazed by the view -- calm water, city lights, and a perfect evening breeze. We were seated at table #320, right by the water, and it couldn't have been a better spot. Our waiter was a true gentleman -- very polite, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. He checked on us just enough to make sure everything was perfect. Service felt smooth and professional all night. We started with bread and butter service. The butter had a light lemon-citrus flavor, which I loved -- it tasted fresh and unique. The olive oil was also high quality, perfect for dipping. For cold appetizers, we had the sea bass marinade, lakerda (pickled fish), sea bass carpaccio, shrimp with avocado and artichoke hearts, and stuffed grape leaves with sour cherries. Every dish had its own distinct flavor and presentation. The lakerda especially stood out -- I've had it before in other places, but this one was more delicate and flavorful. Then came the hot appetizers -- shrimp in garlic butter sauce was absolutely delicious. I used way too much bread to soak up every bit of that sauce. My sister ordered the grilled octopus, which looked tender and beautifully grilled. By this point, we were already full, but we couldn't skip the main course. We shared a whole 4-lb sea bass for the table -- cooked to perfection, juicy inside with crispy skin, served with roasted potatoes. For dessert, we couldn't decide so we ordered a few: chocolate mousse with raspberry ice cream, Mexican-style flan with orange flavor, and semolina with ice cream. All three were excellent, but the flan surprised me the most -- light, creamy, and not too sweet. We ended up staying late just talking and enjoying the view. The setting, the service, and the food all came together perfectly. Prices are on the higher side, but this is not your average dinner -- it's a full experience. If you're visiting Istanbul or celebrating something special, Lacivert is absolutely worth it. I can't wait to come back and bring more family with me next time.

Then, we got grape leaves as appetizers which were alright. For fish, we got blue fish and sea bass that were both delicious. For dessert, we got kazandibi and that was very well done. Our waiter wasn't very attentive either.
