Much to my surprise, Kaiser has made is simple and quick! There's a security guard that guided me to a parking lot with plenty of parking. If you can afford to go elsewhere, do it. Otherwise you may expect to be ignored, treated like cattle, and sent to collections. I've had Kaiser insurance all of my life. I was born in a Kaiser hospital. My mom worked there for forty years and retired from Kaiser twice(!), but in the last twenty years their quality has become the worst. Prepare to fight for your life to get what you need and you better remember all your details because you're just a number to them these days. If a primary care provider is good their panel is full. If you find someone excellent prepare for their imminent departure or retirement. I've not seen the same person twice in recent years. With few exceptions, I have experienced very high provider turnover. I've experienced both botched dental work (so bad they refunded a porcelain crown and I lost the tooth under it!) and I have had very poor medical care (botched OBGYN ablation had to be repeated because of lack of care for the tiny detail that I am child free, slight oops). Their mental health department pioneered the ACES survey - good job - and since has completely failed to provide consistent or salient trauma informed care - in any discipline across the board that I have experienced- let alone salient mental health care. I will never use Kaiser mental health again. Their billing collections service adds another layer of time wasting grift onto the entire mad mess of complaints I have here. On top of all of this you can expect your billing to come months late in the form of a collections notice. All those fancy digital kiosks and no salient billing systems that track billing at the time of service. After all, we waited months for the appointment. WTF Being poor in America sucks. This will be my final appointment as a Kaiser patient. After years of having my concerns brushed off, my symptoms ignored, being accused of drug seeking, called a hypochondriac, frequent gaslighting, and constant refusal to even have conversations about my concerns and instead having every doctor focus on only my weight and diabetes, this was the final straw. Not only was I completely dismissed, but this doctor literally told me that he would not help me. That a condition I was asking to have simple blood tests run to investigate, didn't ACTUALLY exist, nor was it recognized as a legitimate condition by Kaiser. This is a condition recognized by the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic. It can be diagnosed by running a series of blood tests. And there are even medications available for the treatment of this condition. Yet somehow, it doesn't exist? I am done. I want to lose weight. I want to get my diabetes back under control. I cannot do that without having less pain, less nausea, fewer breathing issues, and even more problems. Problems that started 30 some years ago. That I have suffered with the majority of my memory. That have gotten worse as I have gotten older. That have been ignored. I am more than my weight. I am more than a diabetic. I am a human being. I deserve respect. I deserve to be heard. I deserve better. All patients deserve better.. ETA: After reviewing the post appointment notes, I wanted to publically address the false information in them. 1. No chief complaint on file *How can there be when NO ONE listens to me and actually hears me. I have MANY complaints. Had you actually listened to me, you would have realized this.* 2. SUBJECTIVE: 45 year old woman establishing care: She has been unhappy with a series of PCPs--feels they have been unwilling to explore concerns and ideas she has a about her health. *Well, considering this is MY body and MY health we are talking about, I think I have a better grasp on my situation than any doctor can possibly have.* They have wanted to focus on her diabetes, weight etc and have been dismissive of alternative diagnoses she has proposed. She feels like there is some underlying medical problem that she can date to her early teen years that has never been figured out. *I know my body. I know what my symptoms are, roughly when they started, how they have progressed, and what has and hasn't helped. But clearly I am too ignorant to know more than you about my own body and history.* One example that she mentions is that she intermittently experiences wheezing and sputum production. She has been diagnosed with both asthma and allergic rhinitis but seems to reject that. *I was diagnosed via blood test to ONLY be allergic to dust and dust mites. I react violently to many other things. If you had bothered listening, you would have also learned that meds, OTC and RX, have done NOTHING to mitigate the symptoms. Same with asthma meds.* She seems to find it significant that she has been involve in 3 auto accidents in her life. *It's been 3 bad car accidents in 4 years, all including injuries. It has been 9 car accidents I have been in total. The point of mentioning those was to explain my frustrations of having my concerns ignored regarding my increasing pain and refusals to help with the manner of pain management I need.* She emphasizes struggles with chronic diffuse musculoskeletal pain and daily headaches. *I mentioned constant pain, since puberty, daily headaches since my tee, increasing difficulties with sudden difficulty breathing, excessive and distressing sudden attacks of mucus that can be so bad I end up gagging, gasping for breath, and vomiting. Multiple times a week. I mentioned other symptoms that you completely ignored.* 3. She wonders about "mast cell activation syndrome" based on her Internet researches. *Doctors won't help me figure anything out, so what else am I supposed to do? I educate myself. I utilized resources from Mayo Clinic, Cleavland Clinic, and WHO. You responded by telling me you didn't believe MCAS was a real condition.* 5. Listened at length. Expressed my willingness to take over as PCP, but I do not see any viable changes to make in her management at this time. *Try stared at a screen to the side, barely even looked at me, and told me you would not do anything beyond what was already happening. Simple blood tests would have confirmed if my thoughts had merit or not.* But no. I am just a fat, diabetic woman who is clearly a hypochondriac, too uneducated and unintelligent to know her own body and past, and too ignorant to have any semblance of understand of medical conditions. Based on the way I have been treated by Kaiser doctors, this is clearly the way I am viewed. I am not someone who see some Zebra condition on shows like Grey's Anatomy and immediately insist I have it. I'm an intelligent woman, quite capable of doing research, finding reliable sources, and even interpreting peer reviewed research. read more

On 9/18/23, I called the Kaiser Nurses Advice line to get some advice about my son's illness. There was a quick onset of symptoms including loss of taste. The nurse scheduled an appointment with the doctor for 9/19/23 at 9:20am.It was a phone appointment. On 9/19/23 at 9:24am, someone from Kaiser called me and said the doctor was running late and I would get a call within 15-20 mins. At 2:30pm, I still had not received a call from the doctor. I emailed member services and the doctor himself. I emailed member services to file a grievance and I asked for it to be escalated past a "case manager". I have had many problems with Kaiser and each time I file a complaint, I get a form response that a case manager will review the situation and provide a resolution. They NEVER provide a resolution because Kaiser never finds themselves at fault. Medical racism is a thing and I'm sure this may be happening. I want my complaint taken seriously and I want a resolution to MY satisfaction. I called Kaiser, spoke to someone who then transferred me to someone else. This person said the doctor was away and would call when he was available. I got a call from the doctor at 3:21pm and the call was 3 minutes because he had to take another call. At 3:29pm, he called back and finished the appointment. My child did not receive timely medical care and Kaiser "case managers" always side with Kaiser. I expect a resolution from a clinical care director or someone who is above a case manager. read more

I have Medicare advantage through Kaiser. You can only use it at Kaiser. On top of that their coverage is unsatisfactory. For dental care. I need dentures I went to a oral surgeon for Kaiser. Fantastic doctor. Everyone was wonderful. I got the estimate. I think everybody in the office heard me say what!. There's no way I will be getting dentures with Kaiser. I cried all the way home. My daughter and I got on the internet and started searching. I found a dental office. I've already had my molds done. They have high quality dentures 3D printed if you want. The only thing I won't be getting is the amount of anesthesia they don't supply it. I will have her be getting Novocaine and a happy pill. To have my teeth pulled. Total for surgeon and dentures totals one quarter of kaisers. Of course I won't be able to use my Medicare advantage. Or my financial aid from Kaiser which I am very happy to receive. But probably won't be using it. I imagine I will go back to the dentist I'm going to for my dentures. read more

If you have a minor quick dealt with issue with a general physician then Kaiser is at best OK. If you need to see a specialist expect very long waits. If you have a significant health issue like potential cancer expect for your cancer to progress before you will be adequately treated or even given a call back from imaging and other testing. They have really taking a deep nosed eye of the past several years when it comes to significant health issues that need to be addressed. Waiting times greatly increased especially for specialists. Response of providers is mixed bag from pretty good to very bad. Would not recommend them as your insurer because. They have some good providers but finding one and keeping one are two different things and their system is showing signs of weakening. read more

Sure there are good doctors there, and I like my Doctor. But the Kaiser system is extremely flawed and "Come back if/when it gets worse" appears to be their motto. I have heard this straight from some of their mouths. Apparently giving end of life care is cheaper than preventing health problems from getting to that point. Removing organs or administering life saving measures must be cheaper than listening to and addressing the earlier symptoms. The young people they hire to manage phones are hit and miss as far as being well trained and having had a somewhat sufficient education. This isn't the workers' fault exactly, it's part of a larger societal problem with education. it's too bad though. Other than these points, Kaiser is fine. read more

I love Kaiser. I have been in the Kaiser system most of my life, only straying when I had a job that didn't offer Kaiser. BUT, whoever is in charge of their IT is a complete idiot. The Walmart of Healthcare (sorry Walmart). You'd expect more from a healthcare provider, but if you set your expectations high, you won't get what you pay for. There is no concern for quality of life. When you pay someone to provide a service, you expect them to provide you with the care you pay for. You don't get to be your own advocate or that of your children either. Kaiser stands with DIE, and their service shows that their policies are not in line with creating a safe and inclusive environment to receive care. They have no regard for parental rights and are in bed with unions and law makers who believe they know what's best for you and your children. The unions complain of nurse and nursing assistant to patient staff ratios. But it's their own failures to recruit and retain qualified staff, and the patients suffer from it. Google it, people. When you see staff complaining about wages and Oregon legislators supporting a strike , remember they're making on average 53.00 an hour, over 110,000/year. That's not comparable to 2 incomes of a family of 3 in Oregon. At 1800 a month for two, I expect to get my money's worth and not some twit of an MA who doesn't have the courtesy to introduce herself, doesn't do a medication review, doesn't take my temperature and can't read why I'm being seen today. Despite Kaisers extensive investment in an electronic medical record to make it easier to get patients in and out as fast as possible, she can't even chart. Falsely documenting, I believe, is grounds for termination if she wasn't covered by the Service Employees International Union. Yes, do your homework before buying your insurance from Kaiser. Almost all of Kaisers employees have a bargaining unit agreement. She makes 23.00 an hour and doesn't do her job. 9 months of school at Concordia, great pay, and I'm still in pain. Thanks, whoever you are. Had she read the notes on why I was there, I wouldn't have taken the time off of work to be seen, then refused treatment by my doctor. Apparently, after so many times of having a procedure done in the clinic, he doesn't do them and refers you to specialty care. So live in more pain another month while you wait to be seen at a clinic further away from where you see your regular MD. That means more time off from work for a consultation, for a procedure that you're not even sure that they'll do that day. Dental is fantastic, and they go above and beyond, always have and always will. They'll even call you the day of your appointment to confirm. Obviously, dental is concerned about your visit, and they even followed up on my visit a few days later to see how you are doing. Yeah, dental! Show the medical clinics how it's done. You can see in the faces why care here has fallen due to DIE and other reasons not appropriate for this platform. Kaiser has given up hope. All that matters is their bottom line and whether or not they're in compliance with regulations. That's what keeps them in buisness. BTW, why do I stay? It's the only affordable option my employer provides, and it's for 2 people, can't afford to add my spouse. read more

I recently went in for open heart surgery at Sunnyside which was OK, but the recovery was terrible and I also went during the nurses strike. For 6 days I was in constant pain, the pain felt like somebody stabbed you with a very large needle and keeps it there for all 6 days, with the needle constantly moving around causing more pain. The pain control they offered was 2 oxycodone and 2 Tylenol which have NO impact to the pain. Whenever the nursing staff asked me about the pain I told them it was 9 out of 10 in pain level. Again they didn't do anything more than offer me what they offered me before. I didn't get any relief until I got home and was able to take more Tylenol than they offered. It was the worst pain experience I had to endure in any hospital. Later when I looked at the notes the nursing staff put in my record I didn't see any mention of the pain level I was enduring. Most of the notes mentioned I had NO pain or that my pain was being managed which was a complete lie. Unfortunately any organization that I can complain to looks at the medical record for evidence and since there was no mentioning of my pain level I can't do anything to prove my case with regulatory agencies or in a court of law. This whole exaggerated opioid crisis is causing our healthcare industry to side on being over cautious with dispensing pain medications for fear of getting sued, now us patients are feeling the consequence of that fear. Kaiser use to be a decent place to go but in the past 5 years or so they have really gone downhill with health care. Trying to get a specialty care appointment is like trying to pull teeth from a tiger. Lately it seems they care more about reducing cost than providing good care. Now NOT everybody at Kaiser is that way, most are genially good hearted people but it seems their leadership, union attitudes and imposed restrictions are making it difficult to get good timely care. Ironically their recent nurses strike that was supposed to improve patient care only resulted in the worst patient care I have EVER received! Next open enrollment I will definitely be looking elsewhere! read more

If you are thinking about Kaiser for Medicare..DON'T DO IT!!! I've been on it for 13 months, and thank god I'm healthy. Since my fourth month, I have not been able to access the website TO PAY my premium. When someone finally contacted me after my 5th complaint, I was told IT updated the website and she heard more complaints. I've had to call pay by phone, but it's been on 45+ min waits twice a day since the day before Christmas...and I'm here writing this an hour into my new morning routine. I wanted to switch when I had the chance, but Providence cancelled my appt- COVID! I'm not dying because I'm a vet (VA), but you may not have that option. I could not have had a worse experience with Kaiser's billing department - extremely basic dental and medical coverage for over $300/month. And then when I got coverage through my employer, I was not able to get throguh to Marketplace as Kaiser advised I needed to, and was not able to terminaite online (they require you to call), so I ended up calling the next werk. Then they and the Marketplace team told me multiple times that the other would help get my coverage terminiated, so I was on the phone for 3+ hours that day. They ended up charging me 9 extra days of coverage because they would not backdate my terminate date (I worked in Benefits - this is total bullshit as that is a very common thing) and now I'm owing them an extra $90 for coverage I wasn't able to cancel since I didn't get through (obviously did not use it). This company has decent doctors (I did routine care and one specialist throughout my 9 months of coverage) but terrible billing terms and terrible options as far as customer service. I also went back to submit a compliant online and surprise, surprise - the form link is broken. Save yourselves a lot of time, money, and frustration, and pick another provider. read more
