Caution, thai-goers, this food has major kick! My meal was…read moreso scharf, I had to add sweet sauce to it! I had the classic pad thai with shrimp on top, And the beers were so cheap (4.5 CHF), the rounds didn't stop! The place is quite small, and our group was large enough, that lingering longer would have been tough. It was cheap, tasty, and packed on a Thursday night- I think this place must be doing some things right. ;-)

I made a reservation because apparently this place can get super packed (which it did) but they seemed to get a bit confused. They managed to seat us without a problem though. I hate it when I feel rushed, but I kind of did, just because people were waiting and wanted to sit, and we were still talking/ finishing our drinks. BUT to be fair, they said the reservation was good till 8:30, so it's ok that we had to leave. Anyway, on to the food. I ordered the glass noodles with brown soy sauce and shrimp. The portion was big, the shrimp were huge, plentiful, and delicious, and the noodles were fine but the sauce was a little lacking. My friends Red Curry chicken was out of this world. SHOOT! It was good. It was creamy and had a really big red curry taste without it being too spicy. My boyfriends cashews with chicken in a tangy sauce was pretty good! It had a nice flavor. The first go was a little rough. I was too scared to order anything that was even remotely spicy because of previous reviews (thanks Jamie!), and it's good that I played it safe the first time. The poor couple next to us was dying with their green curry. It was actually a little entertaining watching them try to choke it down. They would take a deep breath before each bite, and then sweat, drink a bunch of water, and move on to the next one. I probably watched them for way too long...but really, they couldn't handle it. I think it's just a matter of learning what you like here, but it takes a go or two. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to come back, but I wanted to. The prices were really great and the food came out quickly. For me, it's kind of rare to find such a good restaurant with so many options (and pictures), all for such a good price in Zurich. Their seafood dishes were even pretty low. Almost all of the dishes were between 18-20CHF.

The name of the place - Viet Thai Restaurant - says it all. It's a mix. Big surprise! No Asian…read morerestaurant can seem to stick to just one cuisine. I'll be back for the Viet part, but the Thai aint so fly. For Thai, you're wasting your time since, within 60-90 seconds walking, you could be at Ah Hua, the downright reigning Thai heavy weight champion in Zürich. The panang was oily and bland; lacking sweetness and fishiness, but the chiffonade of fresh lime leaf was a nice touch. The phat see iu was a big loser with very little flavor. What happened? Spring rolls were average. 'Wan tans' were supposed to be filled but turned up flat. The peanut sauce served slathered over the chicken skewers was homemade, crunchy and delicious. Now for the Viet: The bún was very good! Traditionally served with fried spring rolls, these were extra crunchy thanks to their rice paper wrapper. The ph, looked great in the menu photo and appears to be served with all the trimmings, so I'll be going back to give that a whirl pho sho! Service was slow despite low occupancy but very charming. Prices are standard. Interior is cozy but undistinguished. I have to say... with a competitor like Ah Hua right down the street, differentiation might become essential, as in, ditch the Thai and stick to the Viet.
