This place positively surprised me because the prices were great, and the portions were equally great. I made a reservation because apparently this place can get super packed (which it did) but they seemed to get a bit confused. They managed to seat us without a problem though. I hate it when I feel rushed, but I kind of did, just because people were waiting and wanted to sit, and we were still talking/ finishing our drinks. BUT to be fair, they said the reservation was good till 8:30, so it's ok that we had to leave. Anyway, on to the food. I ordered the glass noodles with brown soy sauce and shrimp. The portion was big, the shrimp were huge, plentiful, and delicious, and the noodles were fine but the sauce was a little lacking. My friends Red Curry chicken was out of this world. SHOOT! It was good. It was creamy and had a really big red curry taste without it being too spicy. My boyfriends cashews with chicken in a tangy sauce was pretty good! It had a nice flavor. The first go was a little rough. I was too scared to order anything that was even remotely spicy because of previous reviews (thanks Jamie!), and it's good that I played it safe the first time. The poor couple next to us was dying with their green curry. It was actually a little entertaining watching them try to choke it down. They would take a deep breath before each bite, and then sweat, drink a bunch of water, and move on to the next one. I probably watched them for way too long...but really, they couldn't handle it. I think it's just a matter of learning what you like here, but it takes a go or two. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to come back, but I wanted to. The prices were really great and the food came out quickly. For me, it's kind of rare to find such a good restaurant with so many options (and pictures), all for such a good price in Zurich. Ah Hua is my new Shangri-la! The lines out the door at 8 or 9 o'clock for dinner tell me people are on to it. To further demonstrate their status, they have two locations that are only 200 meters from each other and you still have to wait for a table. Once you sit down though, you're going to receive a return on your investment of time. The food at Ah Hua is Thai. The reason it tops my list for Asian is Zürich (so far) is its authenticity: the food, the atmosphere, the employees. The food: A huge menu of Thai specialties with all of the usual characters and a couple new ones. There's nothing missing! Their salad selection is camouflaged among the other dishes and randomly scattered throughout the menu. The Thais make incredible salads. Sometimes with cold beef or shrimp, nuts, some with fruit in delicious sour sweet dressings. It's all good! The menu must have 100 items! It offers the extent of most Thai places and then some. Try the ground beef with shrimp and crunchy green sator beans in chili sauce. Rice is not included with most dishes and costs a few francs extra. One of my favorites is crispy whole fried fish. They offer about 5 different versions, all in different sauces and styles. Also love the chitlins and greens, for lack of a better description. It's one of the few Asian or Thai places in Zürich that offers the carousel of heat - dry and wet chilis to turn up the thermostat. Most Thai food, which should normally be one of the ferociously spicy cuisines in the world is nothing of the sort in Switzerland. I once had to assure a Thai food shop owner that I wasn't Swiss before she let me buy one of the fresh curry pastes hidden toward the back of the shelf. Apparently it was the real deal... fire in the hole type of thing. It wasn't that bad... Nonetheless, I'm happy to add my own heat. I especially fancy the fresh chilies in fish sauce. The prices are a little high for Asian but I may simply still not be used to Swiss prices. I'm happy to pay though! Service can be slow and unsociable during busy times, but it's always busy times at Ah Hua. Bottom line: come enjoy the incredible food and you'll leave like a happy Buddha. ! We were extremely happy that our friend brought us her some great Thai Asian food. We've lived in Zurich for almost two years and unfortunate have not been able to get our fix of good Thai Asian food at a fair price. Thank you Ah Hua II! The prices and portion size are fair here and make for a tasty night out. We had an appetizer of spring rolls and fish cakes, followed by green curry soup with meat, pad Thai with beef and bok choy and the glass noodle salad with shrimp, lemongrass and cashews for me. All dishes exceeded our expectations for flavor and we left deeply satisfied. Cant wait for our next meal here. Thinking of going? Make a reservation, as the place is popular and does stay busy. Only the second place to which I have awarded the coveted five star trophy.... Someone told me that you should never eat at restaurant that has pictures of its food on their menus. Here is the exception to the rule. If you are looking for a romantic setting to woo a love interest, this is not your place. If you wish to be pampered on by waiting staff and silver service, walk straight this place. However, if you want the best damm Thai food in town, come right in. This place sets out to do one thing, and one thing damm well. And its food. And they do it damm well. I have visited this place already twice in the last week and am going back tomorrow. That's how good it is. Every dish, and I mean every dish, so far has been outstanding. And they taste as good as they look on their menus ;) You won't be disappointed. The place is simple, rustic and needless to say popular. Easy to come without a reservation as the style is bums on seats, i.e. fit as many people on a table as possible, so you shouldn't have a problem sharing your table with anyone. I was excited to get some good Thai food, the reviews looked good. When I walk there the place was crowded, so crowded I walked around than came back. The waiting and anticipating was not worth it. It is a neighborhood restaurant, the owner sat at a table talking to friends and gossiping, the servers were busy running around taking orders, and bringing food. It took about 15 minutes to have someone get my order, I ordered the pad thai with beef, with a beer, the beer came within seconds, the food came out quickly The pad thai wasn't really spiced, the beef was overcooked, and was rough, and dry. Since Chinese food is quite difficult to find in Zurich, Ah-Hua definitely makes my Top 3 list, although there is plenty of space for improvement left open.. The interior decoration and menu design are a bit hard to stomach, but the actual food has been pretty consistently good. Be prepared to share your table with many other people though as they cram too many people on the quite small tables in my opinion. Busy Sunday evening here - slow service. I've had Thai food all my life, all around the world - including Thailand. The food didn't taste authentic Thai. We had the pad mau (fried rice - 19 francs) and veggie cashew dish (seem to be made with sweet/sour sauce- which tastes generic). Not sure if this is usual for Switzerland to serve Thai food with sweet/sour sauce but doesn't taste authentic, making it too sweet. My fried rice was just that. Fried. No real seasoning. So the food was less than mediocre so we try a different place instead. read more

I've been to this place many times and we always ate very well. (+) Good variety, lots of flavors, reasonable prices. (-) relatively busy lunch & dinner, you sit very close to other people, moderately slow service . All in all I recommend it, and go there often for the food not the ambiance - dont get me wrong, the staff is nice though. As far as what we ordered, my wife got - Tom yam, a lemon grass shrimp bouillon with chicken ( & to stay on the soup we already had the cang dang , a green/red curry soup also pretty good) and I got a chicken dish with chile paste & cashew nuts (gai pad med ma muang) - a fav of mine. I probably never ate such bad food in Zürich. The fried shrimp as starter were horribly tasteless, they had the consistency of truck tires more than anything else. The main dish was just a little better than that. I had a red curry with coconut soup and pork. The meat tasted too old. And in the end I was even astonished how high the bill was. Simple Interior but by far the best Thai Food I've ever had outside of Thailand The ambience inside the restaurant is pretty average and it tends to get extremely crowded which is why we used to order at Ah-Hua for take away quite a lot. It's by far the best Thai Food I've ever had not in Thailand. Their menu is large and everything we've tried was super fresh and delicious, the portions are usually big enough to eat the leftovers at a later time. I cannot believe what just happened. Three of us were in a table of four (with prior reservation) and had already ordered. While waiting, the owner allowed a new customer to sit down on our table without asking us. We told the owner very nicely that we did not appreciate the fact that the owner did not ask us in advance. To our surprise she told us that it was to be expected at her restaurant and if I wanted such service I should go to other restaurants in Thai. We could not believe what we heard was right and asked to confirm our understanding. When we did ask, the owner started screaminh and shouting at us in Thai to the point that other customers in the restaurant started staring at her. What I have experienced is absolutely ABSURD and I am extremely furious at how the owner treated us. I highly recommend anyone to refrain from visiting this restaurant. read more

My favorite casual Thai restaurant in Zürich. The food is simple but good -- in my opinion, comparable to something you would find at a casual restaurant in Thailand. I haven't had a bad dish here, so I recommend ordering what looks good (the menu has lots of photos ;-). You can get a delicious dish for about 20 CHF, which is as affordable as you'll find good food in Zürich. You also don't need reservations, which is a breath of fresh air. read more

Some pretty darn good thai food in a central location. Definitely a nice break from eating european food day in and day out. Some of the food can get pretty spicy too so make sure you let them know if you can take it or not. We got the fried rice, pad thai and skewers. No surprises here. Pretty much tastes like Thai food in the states. The prices are pretty good too considering you are in Switzerland. Parking can be pretty hard to find so definitely try public transportation or walk it. read more

In my opinion, Ah-Hua II is the best Thai restaurant in Zurich. It is not a cosy place, but clean and authentic - with Thai television on the flatscreen. Instead of napkins, there are clean-ex-boxes on the tables -no frills. The food is always delicious. During our latest visit, we had the fried mixed vegetables with shrimps on an oyster sauce (CHF 19) and the Gung Pad Nam Pig Pau (Chicken with baby corn on a curry sauce, CHF 19), with rice (CHF 3). Service is good, food is also gut. But organisation in the kitchen is katastrophal. Gasts do not get food according time, when they come, I mean, the earlier you come the earlier you get your food, as it is usual. Here you get the food, when is the food ready in the kirchen.
