I was training here for about 2-3 years and loved it. If you're serious about martial arts and…read morelike the idea of training in several different styles, this is the best place in the area. Sifu Alan is an intelligent, supportive, and skilled instructor. His staff are qualified professionals, and their kid programs are great without interfering with the adult classes. They have a super flexible schedule and several different levels of membership. Some might quibble that they're pricey, but you are getting what you pay for. The facility is gorgeous, and everyone there is very positive. I know I sound like a bit of a tool for saying this, but you really do get a sense of belonging while being active there. I'd encourage you to try a demo class of each of the different styles. My favorites were Jeet Kun Do and Kung Fu. As a side note, they are one of the only places in the country to teach the Keysi Fighting Method, and if you are looking for realistic combat training against multiple opponents, this is your best bet.

AMAC is more than a place to learn martial arts; it is a new found family. As a "newb" to the world…read moreof martial arts I was very intimidated to sign up, however. Let me assure you these guys and gals welcome you with open arms. I have met some of the nicest and knowledgeable people at AMAC. If you have a question, they have an answer. Any time a student is having a hard time understanding or performing, they go out of their way to assist until you have eliminated your weakness. I personally love the fact that the staff, including Sifu, will take the time to call and check on you if you have been missing class. They really do care and this is what it takes for a leader to ensure your success. AMAC truly is an ego-free environment providing the best martial arts training. If you are willing to apply yourself, you are guaranteed to succeed and the staff/senior students will make sure you do no matter what it takes. I can personally recall multiple times that I have been training and senior students drop everything they are doing in order to correct my flaws. I feel honored to be a part of AMAC.

Coming to Macon, I had low hopes of finding a jitsu gym that would fill the shoes left in Boston…read more After a web search, I came upon Coffey Jiu-jitsu may fill those shoes. Barnesville is about 45 minutes from Macon, but there are no jitsu places in Macon, and no authentically trained black belts from a renowned Brazillian for sure. I called the gym to stop by for a trial and i knew i hit a homerun when chip took a few minutes to talk to me. he loves the sport. he lives it and breathes it, and for that, he respects anyone who shows interest in the sport. he was just so plain enthusiastic and passionate about jiu-jitsu. the gym itself is absolutely beautiful and sparkling clean (a must when you need to avoid staph and ringworm). the students ranged from white belts to black belts, but what was so noticeably encouraging was the lack of attitude. too many gyms nowadays are full of hotheads, but you don't learn anything there except maybe how you can try to kick someones butt at the local bar. chips students welcomed me, shaking my hand, and encouraging me plentifully during our rolling drills. unfortunately, due to scheduling for my work and location of the gym, i was unable to join. but from someone who has been to so many MMA gyms, you can tell right off the bat when you've found a good one. the only reason it got 4 stars was because i never took another class there. for all levels, beginners to pro's, if you want a great place to train, check them out.

I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Tekniques for about 6 months now. The gym is very, very…read moredifferent than most Jiu Jitsu training facilities you will come across. The first thing I noticed when I visited was the sheer size of the place. The Jiu Jitsu area is downright gigantic! Other BJJ gyms I have visited are lucky to have 1/4 the mat space of Tekniques. The BJJ area is stocked with high quality Zebra tatmi mats, has comfortable seating, and is separated from the rest of the gym. This allows for a quiet, focused learning environment during BJJ training. The other portion of the gym contains a large tatami mat area for what Tekniques calls HIT (High Intensity Training). This class is similar to crossfit but without the hype. This area also contains a sizable Muay Thai kickboxing training area with heavy bags and appropriate mats. Other amenities include clean restrooms/changing areas and a kids' play room with a TV. Instruction at Tekniques is top notch. The adult BJJ classes are large enough to be diverse but small enough so that each person gets individual time with the instructors. Belt diversity is good - I am a white belt and am able to roll with white, blue, and purple belt practitioners every time I train. The more advanced students are more than willing to pause, answer questions, and take time to make sure you are learning the art. There are opportunities for competition, and the instructors assist students in preparing for numerous Jiu Jitsu tournaments in the area. I have a 6 year old son in the kids' BJJ program. I couldn't be more pleased. There are a LOT of kids training at Tekniques, but never so many that it's out of control. There is an appropriate student to instructor ratio. Perhaps most important (and impressive) is the care given to the safety of the students. For example, whenever the kids are training live submissions such as arm bars, the instructors are within 6 inches of the students, ready to pounce and intervene so that the student being submitted is not injured. I am very comfortable with the level of attention and safety given to my child and the other children who train there. The kids also compete in local tournaments and IBJJF sanctioned tournaments with great success. Muay Thai and HIT training is intense. The instructor is encouraging, careful, and drives the students hard. He takes time to explain the movements and exercises and will work individually with students who are having troubles. He instills a sense of teamwork, competition, and comradery in his students. Coupled with the Jiu Jitsu training, the Muay Thai and HIT classes will whip you into shape in a hurry. If you are nearby and are looking for a fun, inviting atmosphere in which to train Jiu Jitsu, HIT, or Muay Thai, then Tekniques is the place. I can't speak highly enough of the staff, my fellow students, and the environment.
