I went with the egg, sucuk & tomato dish (6.50 EUR), which comes with a basket of toasted Turkish bread. This was AMAZING. It's served up on a hot plate, so the egg continues to cook as you mix it for that perfect gooey consistency. The creaminess of the egg, garlicky goodness of the sucuk, and freshness of the tomato make for a delicious spread on the Turkish bread. Also got a Cafe Natur, a plain black coffee with no bitterness at all, and it came with a little cookie to perfectly finish the meal. The atmosphere is a little alternative yet still classy, with lots of vintage inspired decor and rustic wood. They have many vegan options too. The owner is super attentive and clearly enjoys what he does. The menu is a bit pricier than the typical brunch place, but the food is really high quality and the atmosphere has a lot of character, so I think it's worth it. Highly recommended!

This tasted like the ideal grilled cheese - chewy grilled bread, plenty of melted cheese, generous avocado! In a land full of Brötchen and Tomate Mozzarella, that panini was a nice change of pace. It also comes with a little side of greek yogurt with nuts + homemade jam. The fresh pressed juice is good too, but a little pricey (3.50 EUR). Atmosphere is inviting with lots of art + design books and magazines. The baristas could have been friendlier, but that isn't gonna stop me from getting my panini fix. Overall it has everything I'd want in a cafe and the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon.

For my vegetarian friend its tricky to find things to eat in Germany, so he appreciated being able to try mushroom quesadillas and a sweet potato and chickpea curry (served with rice and naan - to ensure that carb content is kept up!). For me trying to be healthy it was too much gimmicky 'pup grub' not quite Whetherspoons in the UK and not quite American Tex-Mex. I would definitely recommend sticking to the steak, however they didn't do a great job cooking that as required, but I would blame our lack of German, rather than an issue in the kitchen for this, the actual meat was tasty and comes either with a salad, chips or huge baked potato with sour cream. On the drinks, they serve a selection of the local beers and those from further afield. They try with a cocktail menu, but the one 'mocktail' I tried was pretty hideous (avoid the cucumber syrup in anything!) This restaurant is in central Dusseldorf and is quick and cheap for dinner, just don't have high expectations. It seems to be open all day and has a nice terrace area if the weather is nice. They have also been showing the football here - so I assume they will be showing major sporting events this summer, however the screens are not there all the time. In fact it seems people come to use Alex as a coffee shop / laptop hangout with its free wifi - I spotted a few people working on a mid week night.

The food is above average and for any American tourist, the breakfast buffet offers a lot of familiar foods plus the opportunity to try some German specialties. I appreciate the wide assortment of savory foods as I'm not a sweet breakfast person: hot foods might include eggs, bacon, sausage, soups, curry while cold foods include deli meats, salads, smoked trout, lox. The buffet comes with orange juice and is reasonably priced at 13 euros (our hotel was asking 25 euros for a breakfast buffet). They have both outdoor and indoor seating areas, which are both very nice and comfortable for lounging and lingering.

It is filling well balanced and clearly made with good ingredients. The coffee is delightful and a nice touch is that it comes with a small cake which adds a little surprise and makes the experience feel more special. The pancakes are truly divine. The other juice was a very nice blend but cold have had a slightly stronger ginger taste. I ordered an Italian breakfast and my wife ordered a Mexican breakfast. We also ordered yoghurt with fresh fruit. I added 2 eggs to my breakfast, however they brought (and charged us for) a two egg breakfast plate. Which added about 3€ for one piece of toast and butter. I am not sure why she didn't just give me them as a side order. The Italian breakfast was meager. A few slices of prosciutto and a few slices of salami, a piece of soft cheese, some parmigiana cheese and a few small pieces of toast and marmalade. I was glad I ordered the two eggs. I didn't care for the salami, but the other items were fine. Nothing special. The Mexican breakfast was heartier. The chorizo was spicy and smoky but quite greasy and a bit over-cooked. The Serrano ham was good and the casserole (frittata-like) would have been better if it was heated. They presentation of the dishes is very good. The taste is average. The place was fairly busy and quite loud. The meals were brought out pretty quickly and the service was good. We will go back and try different dishes.

When the food arrived, it was just ok. A lot of it went uneaten as the portions were big and the food bland. The waitress forgot one person's order so that he sat there without his food for 15 minutes when the rest of us had already received our food. I think we got unlucky, but I would never eat here again and cannot recommend.
