After months of Russia books stores, which seem to only carry Classics, trashy romance novels and mysteries, being able to pick up a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" for a friend who has never read it was a fun moment of normalcy. The owner is fantastically Swedish, nice, helpful, yet perfectly taciturn, he encourages you to browse quietly, answering questions when asked, but allowing the wonderfulness to speak for itself. First, you should realize this is a department WITHIN the huge NK store in Stockholm, not a free-standing shop. That confused us a little when we were looking for it. But we were well-rewarded when we found it inside - a rainbow of notebooks as far as the eye could see, plus other things like cards, photo albums, recipe books, pens, rubber stamps, etc. I believe the notebooks are all made in Sweden, and the paper quality is lovely. When we visited they had quite a good selection on the sale table as well, with great prices. They have hardback ones and softcover ones, lined and unlined, in many different sizes, and of course, with those lovely fabric covers in a rainbow of colors. Some also have quotes or titles stamped in foil across the front - these are truly high quality notebooks. It was a feat of superhuman restraint to buy "only" 6 notebooks that day. They do have an online site that will ship internationally so I'm sure I'll order more.

They kept telling me that they'd surely get extras of a certain current single issue that I was looking to buy that I was late in ordering with them. They kept pushing the date for when it would arrive. When it did, they didn't get any extras, and I didn't get to buy what I was looking for. When I bought another single issue from them, they removed off its bag and board, and replaced it with a half-torn bag. It was maybe a week old, but they'd increased the price by 1.5x. Their back issue and trade paperbacks collection isn't that great either. One can find a better trade paperback collection at Sci-Fi Bokhandeln.

It also has a nice cafe, plus there's lots of seating near the cafe and that's a real "plus". The selection of photography & art books in particular (my book "passions") are really great and there's also a large children's book section. Lots of nice cards, too....two different sales clerks helped me find some books and they were both very nice. In particular, one of them (who also rang up my purchases) was exceptionally friendly and he also had a great sense of humor. Although we didn't get anything in the cafe, we briefly spoke to one of the women working there and she was very friendly.
