Bargara Blue Resort - Partial ocean view from the balcony.

When we saw a two bedroom apartment on a street that bordered the ocean for such a reasonable…read moreprice, we jumped on it without really looking at the pictures - trusted in the stars and other traveler ratings, and it paid off! The two bedroom apartment we had was absurdly enormous, with more than enough space for the three of us. The location of the property enables even rooms with a partial ocean view (like ours) to see it from both sides between the adjacent buildings. From the master bedroom of ours, the bed was positioned perfectly so it could be seen (and heard!) from the sliding balcony door. The kitchen was fully equipped and fully stocked with plenty of glassware and coffee cups. The washer and dryer in the room would have been helpful had our stay been longer than one night. We did have two small problems. First, the underground parking garage is a bit tight for anyone in a large SUV or truck. But the spaces are large enough to allow two smaller cars to park in tandem. Second, despite advertising a heated spa and heated pool, neither were heated. I called the reception center and was advised that the property didn't actually have heated pool and spa. Who would ever have a cold spa? Regardless, the ocean was right there so we just walked over to it for a swim, much more satisfying :-)

The bed size was a king and like many hotels this consisted of 2 singles pushed together with a foam topper which would have been completely fine had the mattresses been the same size.... The jet bath tub was an extra luxury but was well worth it , how ever the walls could do with a wipe down. We paid $184 dollars for a 1 bedroom self contained unit and it amazed me that on our travels we have stayed in much cheaper rooms and upon check out house keeping would do the few dishes we left behind from breakfast. At the bargara blue resort they leave little notes and if you do not wash all kitchenware you will be charged between $25-$50 you must also empty the trash bag... Our trash bag has 3 sugar satchels and a coffee satchel in it if i do not empty this i may also be charged a fee... If i do not wash my coffee cup and spoon im looking at a minimum $25 fee... So mums it does have enough space to cater for your family but do not by any means think you will get a break away from the dishes. They do allow smoking but do not provide any ashtrays and whilst most hotels contain various pamphlets about local destinations as well as menus etc at the bargara blue resort you get a handbook of rules... The rooms do contain a washing machine and dryer to which come in very handy so close to the beach with all the sand as well as a vacuum mop broom and dust pan... All in all it was an ok stay but next time i think i will spring for the $99 cheapie and spend the savings on shopping...

There's lots to like and lots to frustrate when staying at Manta…read more Likes - They are clean, modern apartments with all the bells and whistles. Good kitchen (with all of the implements). Comfortable rooms, flash bathroom, free wifi and Foxtel. Secure parking underneath, pleasant staff, really nice pool area. Like I said, lots to like. Frustrations - the apartments have huge expanses of glass and large doors so you can take in the views and ocean breezes. Unfortunately, they do not have screens. This is a must when you are in Queensland for most of the year if you don't want to be invaded by mossies and flies. Our choice was to have the door open to enjoy the sea breeze & bugs or, close the door and sit in the aircon. A screen would have fixed this. Our room also had a door (rather than window) leading on to the porch. This meant at night we had to keep it locked and again rely on aircon to ventilate the room. I know people are in love with aircon but I prefer to sleep with fresh air unless it's really hot. My other bug bear were the blinds/curtains. They are modern floor to ceiling blinds which you need to have pulled up if you want any ventilation through the doors or want to walk outside. If they are pulled down for privacy or protect you from the western sun, they bang and clang if the door is open. Blinds that slide to the side could have also remedied this issue. The above are minor problems and we only stayed a weekend but this would drive me barmy over a week's holiday. Sure, the place looks sleek and 'designer' but it's not really designed for real life. If you can live with the above, it's a great location.

From the owner: Manta's ingenious apartments extend from one side of the building to the other, allowing the sea…read morebreezes to flow right through.
